Earlier this year, when we knew Crawford and Walker were gone, you said there was a third unexpected departure looming. Was that in reference to McDoom or Wheatley or is there yet someone else looking to leave?

This one is a little puzzling in terms of timing.  It looked like he was with the team all through summer conditioning.

Either way, best of luck to McDOOOOOOOOMMMM

Additionally, while I think it was mostly to do with Giles Jackson trending to Oregon, this may help explain Quintel Kent's sudden movement from "offer" to take at slot.

Experience teaches that if Michigan can get better guys later on, they will. Some of these recruits may or may not stick; others may, as discussed elsewhere here, transfer. But it's good to get guys in the program. Some wind up not working out; others become Karan Higdon and Grant Perry.

I agree that this season's success is pretty significant for the future of the program. Michigan needs to prove it is elite to recruit like it is elite.

This sucks. While I didn't expect him to get much playing time this year, it's always nice to have an experienced athletic player with speed in case of injuries.

Scholarships for walkons policy?

1st in line, proven contributors - that's what walkons are offered a shot at.

2nd in line, 5th year seniors - a nice reward, no hard feelings to deal with

3rd in line - 4th year seniors - still have a year of eligibillity, but not renewing 5th years is common.

or 3rd in line - non seniors who have contributed more than most

last in line - incoming freshmen - it triggers the Big Ten's 4 year guarantee

Wellll...it rarely comes down to ‘one’ play, but Isaac’s fumble was really bad, because Michigan was moving the ball again on their 2nd drive and it totally flipped the momentum. McDoom’s drop—that was really bad. He had a first down on the catch at the 30 and nobody behind him. He could have turned upfield easily and picked up at least 5-10 more and possibly scored if the DB doesn’t tackle. Worst case scenario (on a catch), it’s a first down on the 25 with 15 seconds left. Best case—a lot closer or in. That was huge.

Sigh.

I guess this frees up a spot to recruit another underscouted off-the-radar kid who might somehow someway be able to play tackle after 4 years in the program.

Well considering nobody who came in 1969 won a National championship it wasn’t true then either.

He wasn’t getting utilized in a way in this offense that showed off his talents. If he still believes he can prove he can make it in the nfl he should 100% leave and do what’s best for him. Just like you should leave your job if another company offers you a better job and you’ve been passed over multiple times for a promotion at your current stop. College football is a business, this is just student athletes realizing it.
