Game Week Mood

Submitted by GoBlue1969 on September 26th, 2019 at 9:31 AM

My mood has changed so drastically during this week. I am still hopeful that we can see some good things against Rutgers, but I am not as excited also because- what if we don't? I am tired already (after only week 3) of screaming F-bombs at the tv during the game.

Besides the stupid knee-jerk "fire everyone", what do you need to see from the team from the tunnel runout to the final whistle?

DISCLAIMER: This rant is not only directed at ijohnb. I just put it here, because no way am I starting a thread about this.

As we get away from game week in-season, it would seem like "takes" are exactly what a message board is for. The attitude of the "pro posters" on here is the only negative of this great board. Not everyone has the knowledge about football that Space Coyote, RYG, reshp1, etc have. Most people on here want to say some stuff and get reasonable responses and discussion going. Disagree? Fine. But there are a number of arrogant folks on here that want only the posts (and responses) that they deem acceptable. That's not how it works.

Now, of course, there are bad takes posted, but those are fairly obvious. This was not one of them.

Win and win convincingly. Actually get the receivers the ball on quick passing routes. Throw in the flats.

This game won’t tell us much unless they don’t show up again. I think we’ll know a lot more for Iowa next week but please for the love of god show SOMETHING besides fumbles.

We all know the fans that you are talking about.
Well they are time bombs and they are ticking, and the only question's when they'll blow up.
And they'll blow up, we know that without a doubt.
Cause they're those fans, yeah you know those fans that let their emotions get the best of them!

And I've contrived some sort of a plan to help my fellow fan...

Let's get, emotional fans to all wear mood rings!

So we'll be tipped off, to when they're ticked off, cause we'll know just what they're thinking...just what they're thinking!

They're so loyal but they do not always act that way. They're moods are swinging on the swing set almost every day.
They post on here that they're so happy it's depressing
And all I said was someone get that fan a mood ring

I was planning on taking little Hatter to his first game on Saturday, figuring that a massive Michigan blowout would be the best possible way to introduce him to Michigan football in person.

Not sure if we're going now.

Wha?? This would be the best possible game to go to.  I am going up north this weekend to golf and was damn near tempted to cancel that to take my kid to his first game.  Going to be reasonable weather and plenty of room to move around.  And we are going to blow them out Hatter.  This is still Rutger man.

Not to thread hijack, but I'm pondering taking my kiddo to his first game the following week against Iowa.  Having similar thoughts that I really want his first visit to be a special one and not have him walk away from the game wondering why everyone around us was so mad.  He's five, so probably cares the most about the spectacle of it all but the flipside is, he won't grasp the nuance of, "well son, despite how it sounded and all the new words you learned today, those people actually like the football team.  They were just sad because we keep dropping the ball".

1. No fumbles or turnovers of any kind

2. OL protects the QB and Patterson doesn’t hold the ball too long

3. Target Tarik, Nico, and DPJ dammit

4. Some speed in fucking space

5. Dline steps up and holds Blackshear and Pacheco (legitimately good players on Rutgers) to 150 yards or fewer

6. Get sacks on defense

7. Don’t commit stupid penalties

8. Blow Rutgers out

And that is exactly my mood.

Pure unadulterated apathy.  I'm going to our cottage and have no plans whatsoever to watch the game.  Expect to win easily, won't be shocked if we don't and will happily fill my afternoon outside doing something....anything...other than frustrating myself watching them play right now.

Welcome to sports hell, MGrowOld: just as it is for me and my fellow Michigan fans who also root for the Detroit pro franchises, Cleveland sports teams are letting you down. The Browns have been a disappointment so far, the Indians are about to be eliminated, and the Cavs? Other than Beilein, there's nothing to see there.

I know how Sports Hell affects me when the one and only team that might bring me joy (Michigan Football) lets me down.  My sympathies to you.

Eh... Browns win Sunday and they're in first place in the AFC north.  We've got a brutal first 7 games and then a pillowy soft last 9 games.  Browns will be fine.

Lions are undefeated baby!!!!  Enjoy it man (another one bites the dust...another one bites the dust...)

This exactly. Probably not watching Saturday, not sure I will watch any more this year. Was planning to go to the Illinois game this year (if I didn't make it to one in A2)-I have 0 enthusiasm for that now.

This coming from a guy who drove 5 hours to take his son to the Big House when he was 2 1/2.

The team seems disinterested, JH seems like he has checked out and/or has no clue how to fix this. I was as disappointed as I've ever been about a sports team after last year's beatdowns by TUOS, now I feel like I need to detach a bit.

Solid, fundamental play. And the coaching staff putting our players in a position to succeed. I don't think our problem is talent or development of talent. I think it is not optimizing that talent in efficient ways.

This is exactly what will happen. We run the ball 70% of the time. Nico, Tarik and DPJ get a total of 10 targets all game. We are up 17-7 at half time and everyone prays for a blow out in the second half. They come out flat and Rutgers scores making in 17-14. We continue to run into stacked boxes all second half and have minimal success but manage to score two TDs and the final is 31-17 Michigan. Harbaugh goes on to say how great everyone played and how hard they played, but everyone can see the wheels continuing to fall off this circus show.

Sadly, this is a realistic outcome. I could envision a nail biting, Army type game if current trends continue. Hope I’m wrong.

A blow-out win would be a step in the right direction, but unfortunately, this team has miles to go if they want to beat the Iowa’s, PSU’s, MSU’s of the schedule

It's not knee jerk.  We have almost the entire starting offense back this year and they are all upper classmen.

Its year 5

My hope is that there’s a passion and desire to annihilate their opponent regardless of pedigree. No holding back. No vanilla schemes and dicking around. Strap on the jet packs and put the fear of God into the opponent and all future opponents.

My expectation? Sludge fart football. Maybe a 34-14 win

Honestly I would just love to see this team come out and play hard and see our head coach do his job with emotion and a competitive nature.  It seems as if he's been on some mild tranquilizer since 2016.

Can't wait for Saturday. We need to get past Wisconsin and the best medicine is a convincing win Saturday. At least enough to get the damn haters off our backs for one week

Fuck the haters. Besides, all they will say is "it's just Rutgers." I used to get so angry when haters talked shit about UM, but it's just not worth getting angry over anymore. Plus, all of this constant disappointment over the past fifteen or more years has taught me that I don't need to get so pissed off anymore when UM loses. It's just a game. A game over which I have no control. If they win...great. If they lose...yeah, it sucks, but whatever. It really doesn't affect my life that much. There are more important things than a game played by a bunch of college men, such as leveling up my guy in NBA 2K20.

What I'd like to see:

  • Offensive Goals
    • 60+ points against the worst team left on our schedule.
    • 0 Turnovers on Offense.
    • 65% completion percentage
  • Defensive Goals
    • Defense holds Rutgers to <50 rushing yards (Sack adjusted)
    • 3+ sacks
    • Defense forces 2+ turnovers
    • hold Rutgers to <=7 points

IDGAF if its against Ruger, Pioneer HS or the little sister's of the poor prep..... I just want to see our team come out and execute a clean game. Sound blocking, tackling, running, passing, no turnovers.   It would be nice to see it happen, then we know its possible.

Lets start from there.

Just like how losing to Wisconsin on the road wasn't the problem, it was in how the team lost; beating Rutgers on its own does absolutely nothing for the program, it will be in how the team wins.

Looking like the same half-coached, half-speed MAC team isn't going to cut it. They need to win through crisp execution and elite athleticism, not by the inertia of existing as a team that isn't Rutgers.
