Game Watching Spot in Maui

Submitted by armikka on August 29th, 2022 at 7:24 PM

Aloha! What's the best bar in Maui to watch the game? I started splitting time between Seattle and Maui a few months ago and there are a lot of sports bars on the island but not sure that there are any Michigan bars.  Hoping to catch Craig Ross at a bar one of these days too!

It'll be 7a, since Hawaii doesn't do daylight savings.  Local alumni club gets together for big games on Oahu, but nothing I know of on Maui.  Moved around a bit since the pandemic, but last year, The Game and the B1G Championship were at Skybox Taphouse in the International Marketplace in Waikiki.  Naturally, bars are used to opening early for football -- huge football fans here in Hawaii.

Craig has a place in Kona, but splits time between A2 and Kona. My recollection is that he’s in the former for most, if not all, of the football season.

So far as I know, the only “official” game watching site is in Honolulu, but I haven’t seen anything yet this year about a site.

Go to Pint and Cork. It's in The Shops at Wailea. It's a great, chill spot. My wife and I got to Maui every year and stay in Wailea and we always end up at Pint and Cork once or twice. They have a solid bar and lots of TVs. The shishito peppers and Hong Kong noodles are *chef's kiss*.

Unless it was The Game or the National Championship game, Id not be watching football.. and I love Michigan football.

This is based on the number of Michigan games I will realistically be able to watch in my life (12x70?) Versus days I will be in Hawaii (14 in my 42 years so far)...

I was in Kauai for the 2011 win. Pot of coffee, pacing around the apartment eating a papaya. I’ll never forget it.

Don’t think you’re going to find a bar open that early on any of the islands.

Anyone have suggestions on a bar to watch the game at in Austin? I'll be there this weekend for a wedding (on Sunday) and would rather not just watch at the hotel.

Thanks!

Not to derail the OP, but I’m going to be on my private rocket ship at kickoff, and while I’ll be able to see the game no problem, I’m not sure what vintage I should pair with my caviar. Normally I’d just ask my personal sommelier, but he doesn’t exactly know much about effects of zero gravity on food parings.  TIA!

ps. Just kidding, I hope ya find a tropical spot to enjoy the game.

Only been to Maui once (loved it), for the BB tournament a few years back. Due to family issues not getting to the BI very much over the past few years, though I hope we can resume it some time in my deep dotage. Well, I may already be in my deep dotage. According to Brian, I am well beyond it. He says I am a brain damaged old buzzard. And, I can barely quibble.

But I do get to Seattle now and again and on my next trip I will send you a note and buy you a beer, should you be up for it.

I was in Hawaii during the Colorado/Michigan game. The Kordell Stewart hail mary game. Game started at 6 am and by 9:30 am my day was ruined.
