Gold Bond medicated nut powder. Remember men, if you're not using Gold Bond medicated nut powder......then you're just plain nuts!

I remember the home opener against Virginia in '95 was a scorcher. Players were cramping up left and right.

The 2002 home opener against Washington with the Phil Brabbs kick was a scorcher.
Fans were passing out from the heat.

on September 23 is too hot.
September 21st, 2017 at 1:00 PM ^
I have learned to never complain about the weather being too warm lest the gods of winter send us several months of cold misery.

The Thunderstorm game against WMU in 2011 had temps in the 90s before the storms lowered temps. They were carrying people out who collapsed from heat stroke.

I remember the 2011 opener vs Western Michigan being very hot. Our tailgate ran out of water (and we typically bring a bunch) before the game. Looking back it got up to 94 before the thunderstorms rolled in.

I remember that one too. I was so sun burnt after that one. When it started raining, I was so happy.
September 21st, 2017 at 2:14 PM ^
My phone showed 98 in the stadium and I heard somewhere that the effective temp on the field was 130. Have no idea if that is true, but even if it wasn't I can attest that the game was a scorcher. Absolutely miserable in the beating sun...followed by beating rain. Left after about an hour or so of sitting in the car waiting for it to stop.

It could be 90 and sunny or 20 and snowy, Purdue isn't beating Michigan on Saturday. C'mon guys.
September 21st, 2017 at 1:23 PM ^
If it's 90 and snowy though, I'll start to worry that the natural order of things has been upset.

on the east side of the field when it started to rain. 80+ degrees on that side of the field for a nooner is brutal.

You know you've been out west too long when 89 is scorching. Was 112 many times here this summer. That is miserable. 89 is great weather. Remember this day when it's pissing cold rain in November.

It's already pretty impressively hot for late September here in Belleville. I walked outside for a little screen break and the walk itself was brutal.
Let it be known that August arrived on September 21st, which here is taken as a reminder of how behind some things are at the moment.

Quite a nice stretch of weather for late summer, early autumn football. A little warm, perhaps, but better than playing (or watching) the game in a monsoon.

It may be 89 but winter is coming for Purdue football.
September 21st, 2017 at 1:18 PM ^
The sun will be low in the sky for most of the game and the seating in Purdue's stadium (if you can call it that...it's more like a field with some oversized high school bleachers surrounding it) is at a low angle relative to the ground. This is a game where end of field could actually matter.
September 21st, 2017 at 1:28 PM ^
Do you mean it will matter because the sun will be in one team's eyes? It's a north-south aligned stadium with the press box on the western edge. If you're speaking from experience there then I relent, but it would seem counterintuitive to me that the sun would be a problem.

Purdue hosted VT on September 19th --- 3:30 kick --- back in 2015. A close analogy to Saturday.
Looks like your typical "shadow starting to hit the field at the start of the game, makes mid-field by the 2nd quarter and covers the entire field by the 3rd quarter" type of deal.

Well, at least we'll be wearing the road whites (right?! Please say yes) and they'll be in home black jerseys. Not a huge advantage, but I always remember hating wearing dark jerseys on hot sunny days.
