The Game + potentially the game against MSU will be streamed in 4K...if you have one of the following providers

I've been tracking this ever since I found out last year that we actually had one of our games broadcast in 4K. There's a group of people who enjoy watching sports in 4K that track upcoming 4K broadcasts rather closely - https://www.avsforum.com/threads/4k-live-sports-and-events-schedule-updated-10-17-2020.3006930/

It's already been announced that The Game will be in 4K - https://support.fubo.tv/hc/en-us/articles/360011483011-What-events-are-coming-up-in-4K-HDR-on-fuboTV-

It seems like Fox has a tendency to broadcast the noon kickoff in 4K. This starts for the B1G next week with OSU vs Nebraska. Our game against Staee is at noon the next week. KEEP YOUR FINGERS CROSSED.

Here's the catch though - you either need of the following providers. No support for this on Charter/Comcast/WoW.

1) You have Verizon Fios, Direct TV, Optimum Online, Dish, RCN, or the streaming service Fubo.tv as your provider.

2) You have a capable 4K cable box.

Summary - Fubo.tv works nationwide, will have the game in 4K if you have the right streaming stick (https://support.fubo.tv/hc/en-us/articles/360011479911

Btw, if you live in a Verizon Fios era and are technically savy, send me an e-mail - mgovault at gmail dot com

The telecom/device maker/CPU industry is going IPTV via the AV1 codec. There's where the trillion dollar market cap (Apple/Google/Microsoft) have their chips placed. ATSC 3.0 won't be real until the later part of this decade.

I met a group of guys working the ATSC 3.0 transition about a year ago.  It's happening, but I'm sure the pandemic has slowed this too.  Stations are launching ATSC 3.0 service, but there weren't enough in place to make broadcasting football in ATSC 3.0 with 4K in 2020 a reality.  2021 is probably the beginning.  Here's some links to see what's going on in the market.

By far the best TV I've ever had is my 55" Samsung 1080p Plasma that's at least 10 years old.  I've been tempted at times to upgrade with TVs being so inexpensive, but there's really no reason to when I'm this happy with the one I've got.

Like a few have already mentioned, the blacks with this TV's screen are so true and the picture is so crisp for sports and really, for almost everything else. Better than a much newer qled that's less than a year old.

I bought a 60" Samsung ultra-thin in 2012 and it's still perfect. It's somehow thinner than the other TVs available today and it appears effective refresh rate has decreased(?) since then while native refresh has stayed the same. It has made it unscathed through three large moves and eight UM-OSU football games.

Not sure what I'm missing with the new models to be honest.

I very much respect your technical knowledge, but this is false. OLED will ruin you to very good TVs wrt black levels. Black on the OLED is no light (the room is completely dark if the screen is black).

Is it better for sports? Idk, the change there wasn't drastic, though I haven't seen any in 4k.

Anyway, I appreciate your high quality uploads and posts!

I expect more games will be 4K through Comcast than they are currently listing.  I have Comcast and there are usually at least three 4K games per Saturday.  One of which is every K State game for whatever reason.  ?‍♂️
Love the no commercials, except for NBC, who has figured out that part.

*Maybe you’re specifically talking about streaming.

Interesting. No one in the AVSforum thread seems to have Comcast, and the only time I've ever seen Comcast advertise a 4K broadcast is for ND (puke), because Comcast owns NBC.

So you have Comcast and have watched the Fox games 4K? I take it you have one of these boxes? - https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/broadband-gateways-userguides

Yeah.  Just watched the Bills-KC game 4K.

College games don’t pop up for me as an option until about 11:55 am eastern.  Most Saturdays I get:
Almost all ND home games (hard pass), which stinks because NBC’s feed is incredibly clear.

ESPN game QLED game of the Week

At least 2 Fox games.  One of which is always KState. Fox did the Red River Shootout in 4K.

one thing that is new with Comcast this season is that if you put on a game that is available 4K, you’ll get a pop up letting you know.  They didn’t have that last year.

And to answer your question Archive, yes, I have one of those towers.  A Comcast tech has to come set it up.  They don’t let you self install.

"A Comcast tech has to come set it up.  They don’t let you self install."

Think I'll disagree...  I switched TV from DirecTV to Comcast back in the June timeframe, and all the Comcast tech did was switchover the outside cabling from the DirecTV dish to the Comcast wires I already had for internet.  He dropped off all of the TV equipment on the front porch, including the new XFi Advanced Gateway tower.  It was pretty simple to setup it up - all phone based via the XFi app.  Now maybe that was because I already had XFinity internet service setup in the house?

Nonetheless, it's awesome to know I have 4K support at my fingertips!  The things you learn...  :)

I too switched from DirecTV to Comcast this summer.

You need the Xfinity XG4 DVR to receive 4K broadcasts with Comcast.  When my gear was being ordered while signing up for service, I had asked about 4K and thought they handled it with my order.  It wasn't and the tech did not have one with him.  So, I was told all I need to do is ask for an XG4 to swap out the X1 DVR that was installed.  Haven't done that yet.

One other item...  My installation was supposed to be an "all IP" install.  It was the techs first time doing that.  That means the only DVR is their Cloud DVR service.  I don't think they have 4K available on the IP/non-DVR boxes.  The little IP box I have for my bedroom TV definitely does not support 4K.

I have Comcast and I can confirm there are multiple 4k games per week. Big Nude Saturday on Fox, ESPN QLED 4k game of the week (usually an afternoon or night game) and ND home games. You have to turn to the channel the game is on and hit "info" on your remote and it will switch over to the 4k feed, but they are standalone events and not channels dedicated to 4k feeds.

I have my own modem but a Comcast box for TV.

You forgot the fox sport’s app. Pretty sure most smart tv’s have or can get that app, and if they’re 4K sets you’re all set! (With a provider subscription of course)

Also, with the providers you listed, you need to have a 4K box. Unfortunately I don’t have a 4K Dish box. That’s why I use the app.

Just got the Sony A8H OLED and downloaded the app. Looks great!

Also, Dolby Vision on Netflix is insane!

The bad thing about Directv is you can only hard-wire the 4K box. We had an install done at our new house last month and they didn't even ask if I wanted 4K- they just installed the wireless server which makes all of my DVRs wireless.

I could move to a 4k box but I think there are added fees. I'm getting a 77" OLED on Black Friday so I could definitely use the 4k.

Hopefully it will be 4K without HDR.

For the super bowl in 4K, the fox app on my tv insisted on forcing HDR, which made it super dim, despite the great picture.

HDR is amazing when it's done correctly (think the TV demos in best buy and some video games) but most platforms don't have it calibrated correctly, so it looks like trash.

All the CFB broadcasts I've seen thus far are regular 4K. The 4K HDR they do is crap, it's HLG, not even HDR10.

All Fox 4K CFB games are regular 4K.

Most Fox 4K NFL games are regular 4K.

There are handful of Fox 4K HDR NFL games...it seems to be the Thursday night NFL game is produced in 4K HDR.

You'll watch the game on a 16" 1981 Zenith CRT television with a faulty vertical hold control and like it!

I keep learning a bit more every few hours -

  • All College Football broadcasts that are broadcast in 4K, are 4K, not 4K HLG. This 4K stream is available via Fox Sports App with provider authentication (you already subscribe to Comcast/Dish/Direct TV/YouTube TV) and have a compatible device!!  https://help.fox.com/s/article/Which-devices-are-4K-UHD-compatible
    • That's really awesome! That covers the Michgian games - you don't need to get expensive Dish/Direct TV/Comcast boxes - you just need to subscribe to YouTube TV and use your provider login for the Fox Sports app running on a Roku/Fire TV 4K or subscribe to Fubo.tv and download the Fubo.tv app on your Fire TV 4K/Roku

  • Most NFL games that are broadcast in 4K, are broadcast in 4K. This subset is 4K only, not 4K HLG. These broadcasts are available via the Fox Sports app via provider authentication, and Fubo.tv (OTT provider) and traditional providers (Dish, DTV, Verizon Fios, etc).
  • Some NFL games are broadcast in 4K with HLG. These broadcasts are only available to traditional providers - Comcast, Dish, DTV, Verizon Fios, etc.
    • Traditional providers (Comcast, Verizon Fios, Dish, Direct TV) are the only ones doing 4K HLG broadcasts. These broadcasts are not available on the Fox Sports app in 4K for Fire TV/Roku with either provider authentication or subscription to Fubo.tv.

The reason for this? They literally have different TV production trucks at these events with different capabilities.

Can someone tell me how I can get away from paying my cable provider over 2k a year and not lose many channels? My options for service are spectrum and spectrum.
