I just heard thunder 2 miles from the stadium. I’m expecting a delay
October 6th, 2018 at 11:06 AM ^
I heard longer or possibly cancelled. Thunderstorms in the area. Damnit
October 6th, 2018 at 11:06 AM ^
They just announced the radio pregame that there is a delay until the weather clears. No start time announcement yet.
October 6th, 2018 at 11:13 AM ^
A little more ... The assistant AD was just on and certainly sounded like they will do eveeything to get the game in. They even talked to ABC about -gasp! - cutting some commercials.
October 6th, 2018 at 11:23 AM ^
The horror!!
October 6th, 2018 at 11:40 AM ^
I hate when football cuts into my commercials
October 6th, 2018 at 11:11 AM ^
At 11am the police officer with the megaphone at the corner of Main and Stadium said that the game is delayed until at least 1pm and directed people to go to Pioneer. Gates weren’t even opened yet.
October 6th, 2018 at 11:11 AM ^
The best window according to my weather channel app is to play right at 12:30 then by the time it comes through at 3:30 again hope that it can be ended early due to blowout score or that the lightning doesn't get close enough.
October 6th, 2018 at 11:14 AM ^
So there is a rainless period from 12:30-3:30? That'd be great
Otherwise way too many games in M history with sludgefart involved sans rain. Start constructing dome. M engineers ...get on it
October 6th, 2018 at 11:12 AM ^
Looks like the weather will clear by 1230 or so. I’d expect a delayed start, but not a cancellation.
October 6th, 2018 at 11:14 AM ^
They probably want to give them a half hour to warm up as well. Probably will start at 1. Maybe think of shortening half as well if possible. Let's get this game in Warde!
October 6th, 2018 at 11:14 AM ^
Update from Michigan Football twitter account:
Update: The start of today’s game has been suspended. Game time will be announced once determined. Michigan Stadium gates remain closed. They would open 1 hour prior to game time.
October 6th, 2018 at 11:17 AM ^
Ideal situation is to start at 12:45ish and to be done and over with by 4:30 before they come back
October 6th, 2018 at 11:17 AM ^
Hypothetical: if the weather forecast holds true and storms remain in the area for the entire day; what happens?
Play tomorrow? Reschedule for our Bye Week?
October 6th, 2018 at 11:20 AM ^
With Maryland in the building, better take whatever weather precautions are necessary. Just saying.
October 6th, 2018 at 11:27 AM ^
Maryland already had their bye week so no.
UM only plays 8 conference games and 11 overall.
October 6th, 2018 at 11:28 AM ^
How does Michigan only playing 8 conference games effect a potential tie-breaker at the end of the season?
October 6th, 2018 at 11:34 AM ^
I don’t know.
October 6th, 2018 at 12:03 PM ^
Best guess? An 8-1 record is better than 7-1, as an example. So, it would put us at a grave disadvantage
October 6th, 2018 at 11:27 AM ^
Play the game in the indoor practice facility.
Just kidding.
October 6th, 2018 at 11:47 AM ^
It’ll be cancelled.
October 6th, 2018 at 11:18 AM ^
I thought turtles could swim?
October 6th, 2018 at 11:20 AM ^
If they do get the game in, I expect Bench Mason to have a huge game dragging guys through the mud.
October 6th, 2018 at 11:22 AM ^
Speaking of mud baths, what is the weather deal in E. Lansing today? Sparty is playing the Wildcats at noon as well?
October 6th, 2018 at 11:27 AM ^
Looking at the radar, the storm line has already passed and the follow up lines don't go that far north. They should be fine to start at noon.
Our game depends on if the various follow up lines are lightning filled.
October 6th, 2018 at 11:32 AM ^
I live in Lansing and the sun is out right now.
October 6th, 2018 at 11:24 AM ^
It's a turf field.
October 6th, 2018 at 11:25 AM ^
Why you gotta ruin his fun??
October 6th, 2018 at 11:39 AM ^
I miss natural grass for this reason. Now all you get from a rainy game is tire pellets in every orifice on your body for a few days.
October 6th, 2018 at 11:21 AM ^
1 pm start now. I hope it doesn’t delay more than that. I will be really drunk in that case
October 6th, 2018 at 11:23 AM ^
Where is the poster whose daughter used to work for the weather service? He used to give detailed forecasts. We don’t get those anymore.
October 6th, 2018 at 11:28 AM ^
The weekly diary posts?
October 6th, 2018 at 11:25 AM ^
Game isn’t going to get played. Supposed to storm all day.
UM loses home conference game.
October 6th, 2018 at 11:34 AM ^
That's being pretty pessimistic, we have all afternoon to wait for a start.
October 6th, 2018 at 11:37 AM ^
Supposed to storm all day.
October 6th, 2018 at 11:28 AM ^
If it’s the same storm that ran thru Jackson, it’s not too bad. About 20 minutes of hard rain and it’s done. Blue sky’s breaking now
October 6th, 2018 at 11:32 AM ^
With more behind it
October 6th, 2018 at 11:34 AM ^
It's not gonna be played. Storms are all day.
October 6th, 2018 at 11:34 AM ^
I live in the south end of Ann Arbor… It’s raining like crazy with thunder and lightning at 11:33.
October 6th, 2018 at 11:35 AM ^
Looking at radar here at work now. I'd think 1 PM is fine - there doesn't seem to be much if anything behind this coming line of weather.
The good news for me there is that it means I will be home by then and can in fact watch the entire game at home rather than struggle to catch part of it here.
October 6th, 2018 at 11:36 AM ^
Where do you work?
October 6th, 2018 at 11:40 AM ^
Your mom's house.
October 6th, 2018 at 11:39 AM ^
From your finger tips to God/Pagan weather entity/clouds ears.
October 6th, 2018 at 11:36 AM ^
Looks like these storms might force ABC to go with less commercials, to get it in before the second front rolls in!
October 6th, 2018 at 11:38 AM ^
I saw maybe less commercials!!!!
October 6th, 2018 at 11:48 AM ^
This tease elevates my anticipation for this game way more than broadcast executives appreciate. Seriously TV: stop killing your golden goose!
October 6th, 2018 at 11:38 AM ^
I moved away from Michigan 20 years ago but I do not recall October t-storms ever being a thing. Probably because they weren’t.
October 6th, 2018 at 11:39 AM ^
People saying they will not play today are...probably wrong.
Yes, more thunder could come later in the afternoon. But they don't cancel games or decide not even to start a game based on what the forecast shows 3 hours after kick.
Kick of the Minnesota game (a night game) last year was delayed for a long time, also due to rain. But they eventually played.
As an early game they have MANY hours left to wait out the storms and start the game.
Bigger risk is that they start the game, but then do not complete the game before another round of thunderstorms rolls in.
Important to get the lead early and hold a lead at all times today, just in case they have to end it late in the 3rd or in the 4th quarter.
October 6th, 2018 at 12:01 PM ^
The issue isn't the length of delays so much as it is the broadcast options after a game start passes and goes into another game window. I mean today's game is an ABC national broadcast, so the network has to switch another game for the national audience and then move the Michigan game again if it goes beyond the later start of the next game on the network or other programming.
