At 11am the police officer with the megaphone at the corner of Main and Stadium said that the game is delayed until at least 1pm and directed people to go to Pioneer. Gates weren’t even opened yet.

The best window according to my weather channel app is to play right at 12:30 then by the time it comes through at 3:30 again hope that it can be ended early due to blowout score or that the lightning doesn't get close enough.

Update from Michigan Football twitter account:

Update: The start of today’s game has been suspended. Game time will be announced once determined. Michigan Stadium gates remain closed. They would open 1 hour prior to game time.

Hypothetical: if the weather forecast holds true and storms remain in the area for the entire day; what happens?

Play tomorrow? Reschedule for our Bye Week?

Looking at radar here at work now. I'd think 1 PM is fine - there doesn't seem to be much if anything behind this coming line of weather.

The good news for me there is that it means I will be home by then and can in fact watch the entire game at home rather than struggle to catch part of it here.

People saying they will not play today are...probably wrong.

Yes, more thunder could come later in the afternoon.  But they don't cancel games or decide not even to start a game based on what the forecast shows 3 hours after kick.

Kick of the Minnesota game (a night game) last year was delayed for a long time, also due to rain.  But they eventually played.

As an early game they have MANY hours left to wait out the storms and start the game.

Bigger risk is that they start the game, but then do not complete the game before another round of thunderstorms rolls in.

Important to get the lead early and hold a lead at all times today, just in case they have to end it late in the 3rd or in the 4th quarter.

The issue isn't the length of delays so much as it is the broadcast options after a game start  passes and goes into another game window. I mean today's game is an ABC national broadcast, so the network has to switch another game for the national audience and then move the Michigan game again if it goes beyond the later start of the next game on the network or other programming.
