Game Day: Predictions, Will You Watch, and it's St. Patty's

Submitted by XM - Mt 1822 on March 17th, 2022 at 6:57 AM

Mates,
Tip-off at 1215 hrs on CBS.  We are 1 pt favorites still, and that is just bizarre when we are an 11-seed playing a 5-seed.  It's also St. Patrick's day which I remember going to Dooley's back in the day to celebrate.  Sometimes even early in the day.   Apparently Dooley's became something else (Score Keepers?) and who knows what.

Anyway, it is game day, conceivably the last men's hoops game this season.  We are without our starting point guard who got a concussion.  That must have been one heck of a hit, assumedly at practice.  Next man up, Frankie, time to shine!

Today's questions:

1.  Predict the winner and the score

2.  Will you watch (or attend) even though it's a work day?

3.  Any plans particular to St. Patty's day?

Have a great day and Go Blue!

1.  64-59 UM.  Low scoring with Jones not there to run the show.

2.

3. Depends on how number #1 goes.

I kid, it will either be beers of joy or beers of sorrow but it will be beers!

Just about to head out from Chicago to catch the game. Pumped to see the men’s team live for the first time since we played Iowa at the United Center in the Big Ten Tournament in 2018.

I’m saying Michigan 73 - CSU 65

UM 69 CSU 64

I’m dry brining a ribeye, seasoned some wings and gonna spark up the grill. I’m gonna watch the game until it’s time to pick up Eastside Maize II from school.

The thing with St. Patty’s day now is that, while I truly wish I could be out doing it up, it would mean not doing like 4 things for the kids later that would make me feel like shit tomorrow.  Even in years past, I was like “ah whatever beer me now” but it actually isn’t worth the trade off.  So, I guess this year I am officially old.  So I’m reading a book (Midnight in Chernobyl - fascinating, highly recommended), then watching the game and then taking a nap.  Getting older - it ain’t so effin bad.

Will I watch? No, definitely not. In fact, can someone please let my boss (MSU class of 1979, BTW, so it's OK to lie to him) know that I will definitely not be streaming the game today on my phone using the CBS app. I will most definitely not watch it while sitting at my desk "working" today.

Michigan wins today and Saturday, but only if D Jones is back by then.

We're not doing anything for St. Pat's day. My wife's school is hosting a regional band fest and we're housing 2 of the out-of-state band members starting tonight. We have to be ready to pick them up whenever their bus rolls into town tonight.

CSU 75-66

Unfortunately won't be able to watch due to my job.

No plans at all for today. I work out of town and don't feel like drinking with the people I work with all day.

Well, if you see a man in a vest on Central Campus glued to his phone, that's likely me and don't disturb him - I will put it that way.

I have no plans for today aside from creative ways to mesh work with  watching this game. Drinking is no longer an option, so that was most of my old plan. I haven't learned to fill that hole completely yet. Still dealing with what was in that hole, as a matter of fact.

1. 68-66 Michigan.  Frankie plays pretty good defense with 8 pts, 4 asts, 2 steals.  Hunter show takes over, Eli is the steady hand with some old man rec league buckets, Caleb sees a familiar basket and hits three 3s, Moussa plays a key defensive role and dominates the offensive glass, T-Will with a couple important buckets off the bench.

2. Yes.  I put a hold on my calendar saying I was at the dentist.  Lol.

3. I promised to take my son for a walk to get ice cream after school.  Wild stuff.

1) I don't know, I just predict everyone will have a fun time!! Oh, I can't do that? Ehh alright. Well, I have no flipping idea. This team, if nothing else, has shown they can respond to adversity and a member of the team going down. Plus, they haven't won or lost more than one game in a row for what seems like over a month. They lost their last game, so that means its time to win this one. I'm going to go with a result that makes me happy, so I'll say 67-65 in a nailbiter that comers down to the last possession.

Thank god this is the first tip-off of the day. I hated, absolutely HATED waiting until 9:30-10pm what seems like two of the last three tournaments for Michigan to start its week 1 games. Especially when those games were on work nights.

2) Yup, will be watching. Only have one client meeting today, in the morning, well before the game starts. I'll still be working during the game, but I'll take my laptop over to the couch, plop down with the dogs, and have the game on. Probably muted half the time so I can still focus on working, but I'll be watching.

3) Ohhhh yeah, big, BIG plans. Lemme tell you about them! After work ends, I'm going to get the craziness started by going to pick my one year old from daycare. Gonna make him a fan-TASTIC PB&J sandwich and some cut-up bananas for dinner. Then things are really going to get wild when its his bath time. End the evening with letting him watch Blues Clues, Trash Truck, or whatever else he's getting into these days. Gonna tone it down for the neighbor's sake around 7:15.

So uhhh....nope, no plans. When you move out to the suburbs and have kids, St. Patricks Day just kinda goes by the wayside. Its honestly just another day for us, and I don't think we've really gone out and celebrated St. Patricks Day in 5-6 years. All you crazy hoodlums still in Ann Arbor go have a pint at Ashleys for me.

I will be working a half day.  Then, I have a "Dr Apt" to "see my radiologist".  Dr. Kumar is my former college roommate and life-long friend, and it might be hard to review any scans with the game on, but that's just between you, me, and jebus.

1. UM 80-70. Hunter with a triple-double.

2. Will have the game on, but have work to do (see #3)

3. Just a few Irish car bombs. Then maybe I'll have a drink.

Go Blue!

1) Hoping for a Michigan win but not expecting it... probably something heartbreaking like a 69-68 loss.  Yet with this team one never knows who will show.  I have this as a loss in my 2 brackets, so a bit of an emotional hedge.

2) Should be able to catch most of the game over lunch, but might see the ending on my phone at work.

3)  Work, but the wife has a large roast of Cornnish Beef in the crock pot - should be nice to have over the next few days.

I'm going with UM 75-64. Hunter gets it going down low and we get good Moussa + TWill hits 4 treys.

I work from home and have a 3 hour meeting during the game that I need to sort of pay attention to, will give that mtg like 15% attention.

Hosting a couple and their 5 month old (we have a 16 month old). They are bringing corned beef and cabbage (the wife is Irish so hoping it's great), and we have the drinks and some awesome Irish soda bread from a special bakery.

I'll be checking the score on my phone from work.  Wish I was more excited.  But still looking forward to the weekend.  I'll be able to sneak out early tomorrow to get a nice head start on the weekend so that will be nice.

Go Blue.  Please don't blow another 20 point lead.

I will watch every game I possibly can from home. I'm a teacher on spring break and it's never corresponded to the first weekend of the tournament for me.
