Furman downgraded to 3 stars? And Jefferson/Stills info.

Linked here: http://www.freep.com/article/20091216/SPORTS06/91216007/1356/SPORTS/U-M… is an article from Helmholdt of Rivals on Furman, Jefferson and Stills, regarding their announcements dates (Jefferson/Stills at 9 PST Friday, Furman on Saturday). In it he mentions Furman as a 3* recruit according to Rivals. This must be a downgrade correct? He's on the board as a 4* and has always been discussed on the board that way.

I know Rivals just adjusted their rankings but I hadn't heard of him dropping. Regardless, I would still like to see him hold up the block M hat Saturday. EDIT: Just checked and his bio page on Rivals has him listed as a 3 star ath now. I say who gives a damn. The kid can flat out play and would be more than welcome by me here wether he was a 4 star or 2 star.

Based on his freakish measurables, Furman is my TOP remaining "wishlist" recruit (for guys that I think we have any realistic shot at). He is definitely a 4* in my book. 4.4 40 speed and 38" VJ==Yes, please, thank you. The other "freak" that I really wanted, but it looks like we are no longer going to get, was "Big Tex" Beachum. That dude is an SEC-type 3-Tech DT (read: quick, penetrating) all the way and would have created havoc with Big 10 OL.

Does Beachum even play defense? I was under the impression he does not, or not much. On a side note: I love the name "Logan"--it's way cool. If I'd have had a son, that's what I'd name him. But wouldn't it be funny if a guy's name was Logan Logan? I shit you not--I went to high school with a kid named Jim James--yes, his parents actually named him "James James."

You are correct, Beachum does not play D in HS. He actually plays QB(!), but at his size 6'1 280lbs and running a 4.7-4.8 40 he would be a great 3 Tech DT IMO. He would need a RS year and maybe one more year to reach his potential at DT, but I think he could be scary good. Logan IS a cool name, however, I only chose it for a lame reason: it is the "real" name of the comic book character Wolverine (clever, no?). Plus, I am a fan of the movie "Logan's Run". Wasn't Jimmy James the name of a character on News Radio (awesome show, RIP Phil Hartman) played by the hilarious Stephen Root?

He's still a 4 star on Scout and he lists these offers: School Michigan Virginia Tech Connecticut Duke Illinois Maryland North Carolina Oklahoma Pittsburgh Purdue None Rutgers None Syracuse West Virginia So I'm not worried about him being a talent.

"It was actually a college I never thought I would end up at, but I'm comfortable heading up there for the next four or five years." Up there? as in north to Michigan? A school he never thought he would end up at? As in a kid from Maryland going to Michigan? Lets hope that is the case and Sunday we get some good news from Josh. Wish him the best of luck no matter what school he ends up at, seems like a good kid.

Furman has been a 3* ATH to Rivals all along. Not sure why people are freaking out. Rivals labeled him an athlete because they don't know where he will end up at the next level (LB, S), and frankly, I'm not sure if the coaches do, either. Moral of this post: relax, yo.

Furman has always been a 3 star athlete on Rivals. FWIW, he's 3 spots off from a 4 star ATH ranking, so yeah whatever, high 3 star, low 4 star. His offers from VT, Oklahoma, Pitt, and North Carolina is good enough for me.

Rivals has had Furman as a 3-star all along. If you heard talk of him being a 4-star, it was in reference to his Scout ranking. Generally, I think players with 3 stars on one site and 4 stars on the other are given 3.5 stars on MGoBlog's recruiting board.

yea it just depends what site you look at. But i agree, with his measurable i dont think you can go wrong withthis kid, Rivals has him listed at 6 ft 3 in, 194 lbs, with a 4.36 40 and 26 reps on the bench. I dont know how his ball skills and football smarts are, but those are for sure 5* measurables for a DB prospect.

I realize the recruiting board on this site is free and everything, but it's not very accurate and it's not updated very regularly. Brian and the Varsity Blue guys do a great job on this site, but the recruiting board isn't the best.

I am guessing the mismatch between his skills and his rival's ranking is how he got hurt. Because star rankings define how good a player is (rather than the other way around) the rivals god must have stepped in during the game in which Furman got hurt. I imagine a booming voice from above saying "My son, how dare you play above your god-given star ranking. Take that!" and bam, injury.

I know you were joking, but that wasn't a self-plug at all. All I do is keep track of who's been offered and who's committed where. I don't list what other offers people have, their star rankings, etc.
