Friday drinking thread
In the vein of it's 5 o'clock somewhere, I needed to start already. A Bulleit Rye Manhattan to take the edge off. Must include Antica Formula vermouth.
What are you / will you be drinking to kick-off the end of this crazy week?

Yet another Mai Tai.
AND, some Kirkland brand 12 year blended scotch. I've not tried a ton of scotch, but I have to say I'm a big fan of this one.
August 14th, 2020 at 5:19 PM ^
Haven't tried the scotch but I really like the Kirkland gin. The vodkas not so much.
August 14th, 2020 at 5:51 PM ^
This is the opposite take from what I've heard from a lot of folks! Interesting how everyone likes different stuff.
August 14th, 2020 at 6:20 PM ^
I heard a rumor the Kirkland vodkas were from the same distillery as Grey Goose.
August 14th, 2020 at 11:41 PM ^
They have two kinds and both come off a little sharp / boozy to me. Not smooth at all.
Smirnoff is highly underrated as a smooth vodka, especially if you're mixing. I like Kettle One if I'm straight sipping on the rocks, Which is even better a little dirty (insert joke about the Mrs.).
August 14th, 2020 at 5:28 PM ^
Guinness. At work still.....getting a deja vu vibe for some reason.
August 14th, 2020 at 5:35 PM ^
Rhinegeist hazy. Pretty solid summer beer to have while I enjoy all the other fun things
August 14th, 2020 at 5:53 PM ^
Do you live Cincinnati? That's a cool brewery. Don't remember the beer much but that's probably a me problem.
August 14th, 2020 at 9:12 PM ^
Haha. Yeah I live in Cincy (moved here from San Diego actually) and the brewery is pretty cool. Rhinegeist and Madtree kind of run the city in terms of brewing.
August 15th, 2020 at 12:06 AM ^
Venture across the river and check out Braxton if you get a chance, cool spot!
August 15th, 2020 at 8:08 AM ^
I’ll definitely check it out. I’ve had some of their beers but haven’t been to that one. Thanks for the tip!
August 15th, 2020 at 10:33 AM ^
San Diego to Cincy?
Well, I guess you’ll save on cost of living. And I hope you have relatives you like nearby.
August 14th, 2020 at 8:19 PM ^
How is it? I have a bottle but haven't opened it yet.
August 15th, 2020 at 12:35 AM ^
I wish I could have attended this concert!
August 14th, 2020 at 5:52 PM ^
Drinking? I haven't even eaten food yet today. This wfh situation is really screwing with my drinking schedule. Any suggestions on SoCal brews?
August 14th, 2020 at 6:31 PM ^
Yes, I just picked up some Firestone Walker 805 a few days ago to give a try. It's a little lighter than your typical ale, form the Cal "Central Coast". Good summer beer. I recommend trying it. I'll be finishing that 12 pack tonight.
August 14th, 2020 at 6:37 PM ^
Firestone is really good but I don't think I've tried 805 lately. Maybe I'll pick some up if I can find some freshies.
August 14th, 2020 at 6:55 PM ^
any relation to Firestone Winery?
August 14th, 2020 at 7:23 PM ^
Yes, I found out with a quick Google. You’re welcome. I’ll drink to that!
August 14th, 2020 at 7:59 PM ^
and tires, as well.
August 14th, 2020 at 11:50 PM ^
Sucks when they mix up the production lines.
August 15th, 2020 at 8:07 AM ^
If you make your way up to North County try Dogleg Brewing in Vista. High quality, consistent brews. Great people too.
They have started to distribute to golf courses in San Diego and Orange County, so if you are a golfer you might run into their beers at the course.
They opened late last year, so like most other small breweries, they are struggling through this pandemic. Support the smaller breweries.
Other good choices in North County: Legacy, Ebullition, Burgeon

So I take my father to the ER last night. He's started having continence issues while there, so I leave his room so the nurse can handle the situation. I felt I was in the way standing in ER, so I go to the waiting room. The BTN is on and it's a Michigan game. FOOTBALL!!! Oh shit it's Michigan at Iowa 2016. All hell........a shitty game but, it's football. So I start watching. Oops, Mister you cannot be in the waiting room, either wait outside in your car or in your dad's room in ER.
Now he just called and said, I'm ready to leave. He was admitted last night and will spend tonight there as well. Sorry Dad, it does not work that way. I can't just come pick you up and take you home.
So with that said - What beer do you recommend?
August 14th, 2020 at 6:14 PM ^
New Holland Tangerine Space Machine or 98 Problems
August 14th, 2020 at 7:42 PM ^
2 very good West Michigan brews??
August 14th, 2020 at 6:18 PM ^
PBR.
Also, pretty much anything from Bells, Masthead, Lagunitas, New Holland, New Belgium, Stone, Rogue, Shorts, Right Brain. Gonzos was good until Saugatuk bought them out.
Keewenaw Widow Maker Black is fantastic too
August 14th, 2020 at 7:24 PM ^
Had a couple 16 oz cans of PBR last night with my Zain's pizza.?
August 14th, 2020 at 8:19 PM ^
You’re living life properly in Rockford my friend.
August 14th, 2020 at 8:42 PM ^
You as well my friend. Been drinking PBR since the early seventies ??
August 14th, 2020 at 11:01 PM ^
I’ll need to check out this Zain’s place, thx
August 14th, 2020 at 10:11 PM ^
I tried Lagunitas "Little Sumpin' Sumpin' Ale", which was quite good. So much beer, so little time. Sigh.
August 14th, 2020 at 6:32 PM ^
Cold usually works in cases like yours
August 14th, 2020 at 6:41 PM ^
Founders Solid Gold is just that - solid. Affordable too.
August 14th, 2020 at 6:12 PM ^
Cracked an All Day IPA almost as soon as I walked in the door. I think I have one more of those, then it might be Miller Lite or gin and tonics depending on how things go.
It's also taco night, so Friday is alright in my book.
August 14th, 2020 at 6:21 PM ^
PBR, Oberon, and whatever I find from Masthead when I get to the store shortly. I wish Noble Beast bottled more of their stuff.
August 14th, 2020 at 6:27 PM ^
Kicking things off with a High Life.
August 14th, 2020 at 6:41 PM ^
Heavily
August 14th, 2020 at 6:51 PM ^
Sam Adams Summer Ale, reminiscing about Reykjavik.
August 14th, 2020 at 7:05 PM ^
Good beer.
The color scheme for that beer is wonderful.
August 14th, 2020 at 6:59 PM ^
Home made Long Island iced tea. Delicious...and two of them will knock you on your ass.
August 14th, 2020 at 7:02 PM ^
Drinking the last of the Spotted Cow. Haven't replenished thanks to Covid. Road trip going to happen no matter what and soon!
August 14th, 2020 at 7:17 PM ^
Haven't had a Spotted Cow in years. My brother is passing through Wisconsin to go fishing in Minnesota. Hoping he brings some back.
August 14th, 2020 at 8:01 PM ^
Awesome, recommend grabbing a six of Blu Bobber Ale as well!
August 14th, 2020 at 8:20 PM ^
Job interview in Madison a couple years back. Didn’t really want the job, but went for the Spotted Cow. Beautiful beer.
August 14th, 2020 at 7:14 PM ^
Dang, a Manhattan sounds really good right now. Just had a salted caramel ale at the Clifford Lake Inn. Now that I'm home, thinking about that Manhattan or maybe a little ECBP C919.?
Cheers and happy Friday everyone.
August 14th, 2020 at 7:24 PM ^
Made a run up to Hill Farmstead today and picked up a trunk load of beer. About to crack open a Society & Solitude #4.
August 15th, 2020 at 10:48 AM ^
Jealous. I never made it over there this summer from NH.
I did swing through Tree House though and got a sampler of stouts. Very solid stuff.
August 14th, 2020 at 7:36 PM ^
Since it's 2020, cheap wine I got on sale for $3 a bottle.
August 14th, 2020 at 7:37 PM ^
Any TX brewery recommendations? I'm the kind of guy who'll stand in the aisle unable to choose...
