Just received this email from the athletic department.
This Saturday is the final Maize Out game of the season. Wear maize and show your Wolverine spirit!
Seriously? They didn't think that the OSU game might be a good time for a maize-out?
over our coats? It's going to be cold and there is a chance of rain as of right now. Don't want to catch pneumonia you know...
You have to play this game like somebody just hit your mother with a two-by-four. ~Dan Birdwell
I usually wear a shirt with a maize or navy sweatshirt or hoodie over it, and then I put a maize shirt on over that too. Depending on the weather, I may also wear a jacket, but I'll probably leave it unzipped.
You just have to layer! I made it through the OSU 2007 game with about 5 layers on, and not one of them was a jacket. Buy a maize sweatshirt and some under armour and you'll be fine. Also, be sure to wear a (maize) hat and some gloves.
for today, good bye
for tomorrow, good luck
forever, go blue
What happened to all the towels? Haven't seen them much since week 2
Current Smug rating: "lethal"
The idea is a year or two off. Once we win more, people will embrace the ideas like that.
105,000 maize ponchos. This would be the perfect game for a blueout with a maize M in the student section corner, like the blue M they pulled off during the ND and Wiscy maize outs.
Enough people will not do what they need to do to wear maize in this weekends weather conditions.
Sorry to say, but we are not PSU fans. They would not blow one of their whiteouts because of the weather.
it has a nice ring to it...

If we got every single person to do it, then it would be a Super Ponch-Out.
the M at the notre dame game was great... a blue out would be very intimidating too... they should sell/handout maize ponchos that would look great and be cool for further use...
the osu O was just pathetic... if anybody saw it on tv it looked like a U with a ^ on top of it (yes i know its some french symbol i just forgot wat it was)
im not very creative....
It has no effect on pronunciation but rather symbolizes the absence of the letter 's' in words that historically had an 's' in them. For example, the word être used to be spelled "estre" and the word fenêtre (window) used to be spelled "fenestre." It most often appears above the letter 'e' but is sometimes found on 'u' and 'a,' as in bâtiment (building) and bûcheron (woodcutter). As French evolved, the 's' disappeared from many words and thus the accent circonflex became a common feature of the language. The more you know.
Buy a cheap maize t-shirt that it's OK to get wet/sloppy on a nasty day, and wear that over everything you're wearing to keep warm. If things go well, the shirt will be fine, and you can just save it for other poor weather maize-outs too.
It boggles my mind that our Marketing department hasn't realized that every week should be a "Maize-Out." That's how you build an entire stadium wearing nothing but maize, not by picking and choosing a couple games every year you think are big enough to warrant it.
I agree completely. The whole problem has been marginalizing the concept. Every game should be a Maize Out!
Totally agree. Penn State doesn't pick and choose its "White Out" games, every Saturday there is a white-out. I know white is more uniform and more accessible, but everyone at that stadium is wearing white week-in and week-out.
Picking and choosing what dates are designated for Maize-outs is almost ridiculous as the blue student t-shirt in 2005 (I think) when they put the color up to a student vote and all the stupid sorority girls all voted for Blue.
Still bitter if you cant tell...

just because someone else achieved it first?
If the rest of the country had your attitude, Michigan would be the only successful football program out there.

I think you're correct from a practical standpoint. If you want to increase participation in maize-outs, have them all the time and people will end up in the habit, and will have massive maize wardrobes (personally, I never dreamed I would own so much yellow) etc. etc.
But there is something to be said for relative effect, or if you want to get fancy, the spirit of the event. There's a difference between something that is exceptional and cool, and something that is routine and cool. Still cool, but one is better.
Let's compare the utility curves for increasing participation in maize-outs by having them more frequently to getting bored with maize-outs by having them more frequently, shall we? Any takers? Anyone? Anyone?
i dont know if anyone else has noticed, but the students generally maize out every week this year. i remember my freshman year (06-07) the maizeouts sucked and people would just wear blue or whatever else but now it's a lot more uniform amongst the students
Clearly, this is what happens when you don't have MAIZE JERSEYS. WOOOOOOOOOOO!
We Own Penn State does pick and choose the "white out" dates. Obviously, the students wear white at every game; the rest of the fans only have a "white out" on selected games, which is usually 2.
But, I agree 100% that our entire fan base should be wearing maize at EVERY game!
In 2007 when Ohio State came to Michigan, the student section started a movement to make the Ohio State game a maize out. Through word of mouth and well placed emails to the Athletic Department, we had the game officially changed to a Maize Out about a week before the game.
I see the same thing happening again this year. These students are hungry for a win over OSU - we haven't seen it during our time here - and we will do anything to make it possible.
Go Blue.
eenie meenie miney mo, catch a WR by his toe. if he scores six, let him go
Buy a maize colored M hockey jersey and wear it over your coat.

why we use maize? Obviously, fans like to wear their jerseys, but our jerseys are blue and white. Both people who bought an away or home jersey are S.O.L.
I assume most people who come into the big house have a blue shirt, while not many (outside of students) have a maize/yellow shirt. I think a blue-out (read: blowout) would kinda be better because people who have home jerseys can wear them, everyone has a blue shirt, and I feel blue is a bit more intimidating than yellow.
We've tried Blue-Outs (MSU 2002, OSU 2003 immediately come to mind- they sold t-shirts and everything, not to mention the 2005 blue season shirts). It doesn't look like anything. Too dark, blends in with things like hair, jeans, etc.
Maize, however, stands out.
More people are concerned with staying warm and dry during OSU than with wearing maize. It never works for the cold weather games.
