They made a few phonebooks updates before releasing the team photo.

We heard about the position changes already and some of the numbers, but for completion's sake:

POSITION CHANGES

  • Reece Atteberry: OL->DL
  • Kendrick Bell: QB->WR

NUMBER CHANGES

  • Roman Wilson: #14 to #1: Special.
  • Ja'Den McBurrows: #1 to #18: Behind Amorion?
  • Kody Jones: #6 to #14: Interesting in light of...
  • Brandyn Hillman: #46 to #6: Was this Kody moving off or Hillman taking it?
  • Amir Herring: #56 to #50: Giudice was #56, #50 is more of center #.
  • Chibi Anwunah: #95 to #97: Also changing his last name to Hutchinson?
  • Liam Groulx: 41->53
  • Joshua Luther 44->41
  • Brandon Mann 5->46

Also two walk-ons were no longer on the roster:

  • RB Jack Konisberg (Fr)
  • OL Dan Taraboi (So)

I had not heard anything about those position changes.  Interesting.  I thought Atteberry was on the 2 deep for the interior OL.  I thought wrong, apparently.

By the way Seth, where exactly were these position changes reported?  You said you'd heard of them already, but from where?

Could be (in order of most likely in my opinion)

1. He's buried for now, so why not just try, and if chaos happens, you have a player who can play either OL or DL.

2. Attebery asked for it

3. Coaches see a bigger need at DT

4. Coaches think he's never going to play OL, so let's move him

From previous presser comments, I don't think (4) is likely at all, my guess is they're just giving a talented player every chance to see the field.

Veeeery interesting regarding Attebery. I know he wasn't going to start this year but I thought I remember hearing about him being someone who would be fighting for that #2 spot at center, possibly duking it out with Crippen or Raheem Anderson, and having a chance to get real playing time next year. Maybe I was wrong.

In any case, I don't see him getting much playing time on the DL this year, but there will be some natural attrition there next season with Jenkins moving on, possibly McGregor, and maybe Harbaugh just really likes what he knows he already has coming back on the OL next season.

Besides, Harbaugh has a track record for finding success in guys with position switches at Michigan. This may prove to be the best move for Atteberry to have a shot at the league.

Who knows? I certainly don't. In any case best of luck to him!
