This was exactly the title of a post I was just about to make.

What a terrible use of time and time-out at the end of the Wisconsin-Iowa game.  They rushed for a 1st down, then should have spiked it and regrouped for a play, then called time-out if they gain enough yardage.

Also, Ferentz > Miles if you just watched the LSU-Auburn game.  LSU had a 4th down and there was total mass confusion AFTER a time-out!  The QB basically had to attempt to run it and got stuffed.  Auburn should be able to milk clock and finish the game, but holy god Miles' team is a mess when the pressure is on late in games.

Captain Obvious sums it up.

Four things went wrong:

1)  Ferentz calling the timeout when he shouldn't have

2)  Playcall had too many routes in the middle of the field.  WTF.

3)  Stanzi has to know to throw that ball away and not leave him in the middle of the field.

4)  You are 2 feet from the sideline!  Ever 'accidentally' fumble?

Also, he could have used some of his timeouts on defense on the previous possession.  Coaches frequently screw this up.  30 seconds of clock is worth more than a timeout.  There are other ways to stop the clock, but you can never get that time back.  If he had called a timeout on the play before Wisconsin scored, his team could have had the ball with about 1:40 to go and still two timeouts.

I texted my brother-in-law saying, "And Kirk Ferentz went to the Les Miles school of clock management.  Idiot.  Now MSU is atop the Big Ten alone, ugh."

So, yeah, way to school your team Ferentz.

Indeed.  The planets are sure aligning for MSU.  If Northwestern had not fallen for the worst and most obvious fake punt in all of college football history, and if Iowa had not shit the bed on its clock management, Iowa would be in the driver's seat for the Big Ten title.  While I don't think this is a spectacular MSU team, they are in control of the Big Ten at this point.  If they don't win the Big Ten, it will be their own fault.

seems like a good idea to make sure he actually KICKS the ball before rushing downfield to block.  There wasn't a soul within 20 yards of the punter.  Sheeesh.

The timeout reminded me of a certain legendary (idiot) B10 coach: "The kids are playing their hearts out, and the coaches are screwing it up!"

If your gonna burn that TO after 4th down...you might as well have gone for the endzone or chucked it about 15 rows behind the endzone...why Stanzi even dumped it off is beyond me....

Also, Wiscy is gonna run the ball down our throats...

On the final play I thought he would at least throw it far enough for a first down. The receiver could then take a knee, stopping the clock. When the refs start the clock again. Immediately spike it and then go for the FG.

MSU next weekend.  Even then, MSU might win the Big Ten with one loss.

I really want to know who called the TO.  If that was Ferenz, he deserves a pay cut.

really sucks because I had $10 on them to win.  Of course they lose.  Of course.  I also had $10 on Northwestern +6.5.  Damn you, Angry Michigan Fan Gambling on Other Big 10 Teams Hating God....DAMN YOU!!!

Stanzi called the timeout.  He was corralling the team and lining everyone up and he was poised to take the snap ASAP.  It was all-around gross.

I've said it before but it bears repeating - why do teams never make mistakes like this vs. us?  Our opponents always play out of their minds and mistake free.
