it would matter.  But it doesn't.  The AP poll exists for no other reason than to generate readership/conversation (in fact, that's the only reason any polls exists before the end of the season). Since no one cares about the AP poll once the CFP rankings come out, at least he's generating some buzz.  If at the end of the year when national titles are on the line, he doesn't vote the winner of the CFP, then there'd be reason to complain.

He actually explained his ballot this week. He doesn't come off as "not caring." He actually has some decent point. I don't necessarily agree with him, but at least he has a cogent argument.

His argument is complete bullshit. Basically it's "I want to be different cause if everybody votes the same way it's not diverse enough."

So to him 2+2=7 is acceptable cause it's different and who are we to impose our standards of math upon him?

I know some people hate to hear this but certain things are just fucking WRONG. Not different-WRONG. His poll with Wisconsin at #2 and Penn Fucking State at #3 is wrong.

Funny thing is I noticed his votes last week and they were even worse. Had Wisconsin 3, PSU 4, Florida State 6, USC 8, and Michigan 11. Has to lose his vote, guy is an F'ing joke. Link to last week's in the post below.

What's funny about this dude's voting pattern with Michigan is....well....let's roll it back to Week 7:

Week 7- #4

Week 8 - #3

Week 9 - #3

Week 10 - #4

Week 11 - #4

Week 12 - #11 (Apparently, Iowa changed his mind)

....and then of course the current week.

His explanation on how he ranks teams is pretty informative and worth reading.  I mean if you enjoy looking at the computer screen (or phone) and thinking how in the hell he has a vote for the national champion.

I rank teams based on where I believe they belong that day and that week, and I change my ballot a lot from week to week. I am not disturbed that my ballot looks much different from everybody else’s ballot. In fact, I’m proud of that fact. I will continue to pound on the table against the notion that we should all vote alike. It’s the worst of group think. The whole idea of this thing is we all have different opinions and the average of those opinions should lead to an accurate poll, but we all have to have different opinions for these rankings to work properly.

Once you realize he has no idea that the rankings are based on the collective work of the entire season it makes complete sense.  Although very flawed concept of what the rankings actually are.

I mean it is unique and kind of interesting and I can sort of buy into a few ideas like having USC highly ranked. But some of the other teams like PSU and Oklahoma and Wisconsin scream recency bias and an over emphasis on killing lesser opponents rather than winning close games against good opponents.

His whole underlying premise is that his qualitative assessments of teams is more accurate than W-L but if you wanna go with that there are more objective complex and valid fancystat systems that are probably more useful than some random writer's opinion on who is good or not with minimal emphasis on actual outcomes (losses).
