Governator                                    OFFICE OF THE GOVERNATOR

XM                                                      STATE OF MICHIGAN

Executive Order 2020-71 Friday Night Beverages

The novel coronavirus (Covid-19) is a royal pain in the behind.  The residents of this great state are sorely put upon by it, and it has caused this blog to occasionally degenerate into political discussions that would make a prostitute blush with the lack of civility and un-wolverine like behavior.  There currently is at least a temporary cure for this nonsense, that being adult beverages and, as the warmer weather is upon us, BBQ season.

Due to this unprecedented emergency, and by the authority granted to me by absolutely nobody, I do hereby declare, decree, order, cajole, encourage you all as follows:

1. You shall declare your beverage(s) of choice this evening.  Non-alcoholic beverages are equally welcome in the discussion.

2.  You are ordered to describe what you are, may, might, or would like to cook, eat or barbeque this evening.

3.   If you remember what you did the day you graduated from U of M or any other institution (For Mgohillbilly, that would be the 3rd grade) you will share the highlights, the joy, who you were with and the fun stuff you did that day.

3.  You shall share your planned weekend activities, and failing that, what you do plan to do when that other governor allows you to leave your humble abode - will you be traveling?  Is your work going to be a real nightmare with all the changes and/or projects that will have to be done?

4.  No person or entity shall engage in any type of political discussion.  If you are found to do so, I will order my secret spies to bring a load of manure to your residence and dump it at your front door.

I may, in my assumed and illusory powers, issue additional very important edicts but for now this will do.

Gin and tonic, but I just ran out of tonic water so it's going to become gin and whatever else I've got in the fridge

No Q tonight, had leftover pizza.  Might smoke and grill a ribeye tomorrow tho.

Watched a lot of people buying "We Got Bush!" t shirts

Golf.  Thank you governator for allowing the most socially distant of the sports.  Should be a nice weekend for a walk.

Gin here too which is very random for a bourbon guy.  Someone must have left it here. I mixed it with some tonic water and it’s not THAAAT bad I guess. Hard to get past the “piney” taste.

That’s all I got for now.  It’s kids bedtime now which is by far the worst part of the day for some reason.

I found a Ginger and Rhubarb Gin infused liqueur that’s 20% alcohol, so you can drink many drinks on a summer day.  2oz. of the liqueur, some flavored tonic water (Elderflower is good) and a wedge of lime and you have a great summer drink.  The wife loves ‘me.

Funny thread.  I’ve been making Cherry Limeade’s with Tito’s Vodka.  Very tasty.  Extra maraschino cherries is the key.

Larceny + Kiss of Caramel Vodka on the rocks.

Cheat day tomorrow for keto-diet - debating what to eat. Donut for breakfast? Lunch, left-overs, and dinner (Chinese or Chicago Style Pizza)?

Trying to stay positive after we lost our Furbaby this week to cancer.

1. Black Angus IPA and some maker's mark later

2. bbq striploins today.  Was a real nice day on the east coast as well.

3. will be spending time at the newly opened parks with my dogs and boys (2y and 6m).  I work in the dental field so getting back is going to be a shitshow. More regulations being laid on by authorities every day.  Each one more expensive and less evidence-based than the last.

4.  Canada just banned 'assault-style' firearms today.  Regardless of your gun control stance, banning guns because of their aesthetics is exactly what I'd expect from Socky McBlackface.

You actually crammed a shit ton of stuff in there.

Did the money run out yet

The first round of funding did run out.  But if you were in the queue, you were good to go.  My guess is, but I have no idea, is requests were counted as they came in and that notional running count was tracked against the pot 'o freshly printed money.

^^^ I'm not in finance. I work in Advisory for a Big 4 and banks all over the country hired firms to help out with demand.  The bank we support needed 1,500 people for help with their backlog so if you could do 5th grade math, you got pulled off of regular work to help out with this.  People from 1st year associate through partner got pulled and it's all hands on deck, 12 hours a day, from 6 PM to 6 AM, every day.

in terms of SBA approvals

The SBA isn't really involved unless you have an EIDL (Economic Injury Disaster Loan) claim in addition to your PPP claim too.  The SBA determines the amount of your EIDL grant.  I think that's can be up to $2MM more if you have EIDL on top of your PPP.

For PPP, the banks do that.  SBA doesn't oversee as far as I can tell.  Federal gov't guarantees the loan so there's zero risk to the bank.  All we need is a 940, a 941, or a 1040 Schedule C.  We take box 3 from the 940, box 2 from the last four 941s, or line 31 from the 1040 C and divide by 12 and then multiply that by 2.5.  That's your loan amount.  Boom.  Next.

Anticipating one's curiosity and follow on questions, we do not discriminate based upon account size.  99.9% of what has across my computer is in the $50K range.  I've approved one for $314K and a couple around the $2,500 mark.  I can absolutely tell you most of the shit in the press is just that -- shit.  We're doing our best (in very imperfect times) to keep ma and pa kettle, or the urban version of that, in business.

If I can do "avg monthly payroll" * 2.5 you're getting paid.  Period.  I've even bent the rules.  One person only submitted one 941 form.  So I said fuck it, multiplied his single 941 box 2 by four and pressed on.  Didn't have the heart to send him to the back of the line to upload more docs.

Another round of funding was approved last Monday.  So we have new loan apps on the pile in addition to a 2 - 3 week backlog.

We have 400K applications.  One bank.  The other big banks have that too and they also have hired consulting firms just for warm bodies to do 5th grade math.

You're saying there is no such thing as SBA review of the PPP?

AFAIK, no, we're not doing that.  When I process it, it goes right to a quick QA check and then it is fulfilled. Additional processes, which I shouldn't name here, are being bypassed in the name of clearing the backlog.

I got 1 hour of training over two nights on how to do this.  We're not doing it but I don't know if different banks have different processes.  The name of the game is clear the backlog so these businesses keep their staff out of the unemployment line.

Hmmmm, maybe I'd better have a talk with my bank.

Good luck with that.  I will say frustrated business have figured out that if they upload letters to their portal, either as a cry for help or littered with F-bombs, they'll get faster customer service than over the phone.

Thanks XM for some sanity during this crisis.

Without knowing you, I've learned a lot about you.  I appreciate your "takes" and your outlook.

If ever you were to start a blog, I would be there like lemmings to the Sea.

My hope is that all MGOBLOGers are doing well, but a special shout out to you and your family in the upper part of this fine state.

Stay Healthy!!

thank you for the kind words fellas.  i suspect you are in the tiniest of minorities in that regard though.

and yeah, it has been a pleasure to meet the folks on this blog. i think if we all were convinced that our next discussion with 'avatar X' was going to be face-to-face, we'd treat each other a whole lot better.
