ESPN ranks the top 20 jobs in college football
Heavy southern bias. Also in what world is the MSU job better than the PSU job? Finally, the fact that they ranked the UofM job and MSU job only 5 spots apart is spectacular hilarity.
Here's a look at how ESPN ranked the top 20 college football jobs, with athletic department revenue rank and attendance rank:
1. Alabama (No. 4 revenue, No. 4 attendance)
2. Ohio State (No. 5 revenue, No. 2 attendance)
3. Texas (No. 2 revenue, No. 10 attendance)
4. USC (Revenue N/A, No. 18 attendance)
5. Florida State (No. 17 revenue, No. 20 attendance)
6. Florida (No. 9 revenue, No. 9 attendance)
7. LSU (No. 6 revenue, No. 7 attendance)
8. Oklahoma (No. 7 revenue, No. 13 attendance)
9. Georgia (No. 19 revenue, No. 8 attendance)
10. Clemson (No. 39 revenue, No. 14 attendance)
11. Notre Dame (Revenue N/A, No. 15 attendance)
12. Michigan (No. 3 revenue, No. 1 attendance)
13. Oregon (No. 1 revenue, No. 32 attendance)
14. Texas A&M (No. 10 revenue, No. 3 attendance)
15. Auburn (No. 13 revenue, No. 12 attendance)
16. Tennessee (No. 14 revenue, No. 5 attendance)
17. Michigan State (No. 18 revenue, No. 19 attendance)

Georgia is a phenomenal job. it has it all . . . tradition, glamour conference, local recruting area, great college town, passionate fanbase, weather, location.
It has no real weaknesses as a destination job.
The level of underachivement at that program has been criminal.
Clemson is not a better job than Michigan or Notre Dame...they just have a better team right now, that's all.

2 - 14 over the last sixteen is sobering, isn't it?
How is Oregon #1 in revenue? Did Phil Knight just cut them a huge check?
it wasn't that long ago, it seems, that Miami (YTM) belonged on that list. Oh, how they have fallen. Also amazing that Oregon doesn't recruit better given their resources, record on the field, and placement on this list. Hoke to the rescue.
I'm always surprised when I see the recruiting rankings over X years and see how low Oregon always is.
They look so athletic when you watch them that you think they must be in the top 5 every year. But they are not. More like 15 -25.
They are getting it done with their system.
You would think they would recruit much better with their recent success, outrageous facilities / perks, "cool" uni buzz, and the Nike association.
But it just goes to show you . . . at the end of the day most recruits want to stay within a few hours of home. Oregon is a long way away from any fertile recruiting grounds.
It also shows what a great job Harbaugh is doing, being able to recruit nationally at an elite level at Michigan. Not many programs can do that.
My opinion is that Oregon has created a culture where players take immense, unrivaled pride in being as athletic as possible. Freshman see the level of athleticism, the training style, the work ethic that the players in front of them display and compete like hell to be the next DeAnthony Thomas, LaMichael James. Josh Huff, Arik Armstead. The standard of play is right there in front of them and continues to be pushed. From that perspective it doesn't take 5 star recruits to get there, it's the culture that develops players into that mold.
The proximity of Zingerman's places us on top. Mail order isn't even close.
Players, no matter the climate, tend to stay near home. I have a few questions as to the rankings of the SEC teams, for instance A&M over TN. TN, with a good coach, has to be one of the easiest gigs in the country. Virtually everything is allowed.
Personally, that area of the country experiences humidity levels as early as mid-April that make my return to the north not even a real decision.
But the SEC, along with Clemson, simply makes it so damn easy on the coaches that almost every school except Vanderbilt should receive some type of consdieration.
Obviously prestige associated with position was not a consdieration.
