ESPN College Football Final

Submitted by mulhemp on November 13th, 2023 at 11:35 AM

Did anyone else watch the ESPN College Football final with Matt Barrie, Joey Galloway and Dan Mullen?  If so what did you think of the end where they mock/tease players who make boneheaded mistakes or something funny happens and they used that time to mock Sherron Moore's burst of emotion at the post game interview?

I found it totally classless.  What a bunch of Jack A$$'s.  I know ESPN has got a boner for the SEC but this showed a complete lack of even the most basic level of journalistic integrity.

I say, unless Michigan is playing on it, ban ESPN?

And, lets inundate them with e-mails?

I thought that it was mostly Joey Galloway.....and he's a Buckeye.  I do find it interesting that they'd make fun of someone who is twice their size from such a safe distance.

I watched to see what Galloway had to say. He doesn't stfu about Michigan's schedule, and I was curious to his response after Michigan handled PSU in Happy Valley (after OSU's "quality wins" are a ND team that's been exposed as not really that good-- especially when Freeman decides to only play 10 defenders, and the same PSU team they struggled with in Columbus). I expected a douchebag response, and I wasn't disappointed. His main takeaway seemed to be that Michigan won't beat OSU if they only run the ball.

Always think that's such a weird take. "If Michigan plays against OSU just how they played a different game, they will lose!" Do people think coaches use the same game plan each week? Do they think the games before OSU for Michigan are literal practices? They should know after last year, we won't use the same game plan for the Game

If Michigan plays all 74 players against OSU like they did against some of the BIG teams, they may not win.

Michigan has mostly kept to a vanilla offense and gameplan since they don't have to.  They want to keep as much in their pocket for OSU and for the CFP as possible.  So dumb of these analysists. It's all dumbed down for clickbait stuff for dumb fans.  That's why Valenti is such a hit in Detroit.  Dumb State fans (sorry dumb is redundant HA), and dumb Michigan fans want to hear his take on the dumbest troll shit he can come up with.

I wish that UM would ask Fox what teams would make the best super conference and then UM can take the lead in putting it together.  It would undoubtedly include several of ESPN's cash cows.

i mean, ryan day is a douche, but didnt we do the same thing for his tough guy routine a few weeks ago? it cant only be genuine when its our side.

honestly, who cares what these guys think. galloway is an idiot. dan mullen failed at everything at the HC level. maybe he didnt have enough emotion as a FB Head Coach...

I think it is fine for people to show emotion.  Be happy.  Be sad.  squeeze the juice out of life.

The contrast is actually sort of funny.  OSU is really on top of the world.  They get the #2 recruiting class almost every year, they got the rules changed for them in 2020 to make the playoff, they have two coaches in a row get fired for ethics violations and they fail upwards each time (other than the FIckell season).  But Ryan Day couldn't hang with Michigan two years in a row because their team wasn't built to be tough.  His team takes two plays to score against 10 ND players on a team that will end the season unranked and he's thumping his chest talking about how tough he and his team are.

While there are no "known"" connections to Day and the PI firm he allegedly told everyone that we were stealing signs and shared our signs with anyone who was asking.  The B1G then takes extraordinary steps to carry Day's water to selectively persecute Michigan on breaking the spirit of the rules* without an investigation or hearing hoping to derail us.   Day is a Karen.  He was born on 3rd base and thinks the world owes him more.   So "Ohio vs. Everybody" is pathetic.    (Sort of funny that they are Brady Hoking themselves.)  His toughness is as real as his beard color.

Michigan is really going through the ringer on this ridiculous fatwah of the rest of the B1G.  It literally is Michigan vs. Everybody (in the B1G and evidently GA.)

Moore's emotions came out in the enormity of the moment.  30-40 years ago it would have been labeled unmanly, but the man was overcome with love and gratitude to Michigan, Harbaugh and his players.   The big difference is that he didn't claim to be tough.**

*I don't think Michigan should concede that filming counts as advanced scouting.

**Tough guys can cry.

That’s a balanced assessment. If we’re gonna mock Cryin’ Ryan then we are fair game. That said there is a big difference. Our coach’s and program’s reputation is being dragged through the mud by a national media outlet with economic interests to advance and we are being sanctioned by a kangaroo court with axes to grind because they are historically non competitive. What great adversity has Ryan Day and Ohio State had except the doubt that is in their own heads?

I know you said there's a difference but I feel you missed why. This is apples and oranges. Mocking Ryan's angry tirade vs a 90-year-old man who spoke the truth after getting lucky in beating a very average ND team is worlds apart from three grown laughing about another man crying and expressing love for his mentor and friend and team.

You do realize Day makes several million and has already head coached dozens of high intensity games whereas this was Moore's first high profile game as head coach under extraordinary and sudden circumstances, and did endlessly more for his career and future than whatever game Day babbled toughness about right?

These are not equivalent.

I don't consider Ryan Day to be Cryin' Ryan because he got a bit emotional after a game.

He's Cryin' Ryan because his lackeys have conducted an off-field propoganda operation to attempt to get a coach he can't beat banned from the sidelines for a minor rules violation.

When you try to get your sibling grounded for beating you in Madden and your excuse is that he did a better job looking at your play selection screen than you did his, you are are a crybaby. I don't care about your postgame callout of an octogenerian.

if assholes want to make themselves look like assholes by mocking a guy for being emotional, that's on them.   Would sherrone have been better served by pulling blake in and stepping away sooner?  sure.  Am I going to begrudge him for what he did/said?  hell no.

the people who do are clowns.

None of those guys are journalists and this show is literally an entertainment piece. That said, I generally don't bother with those shows anymore. If I watch anything, it's generally just B1G Final Drive.

EDIT: I guess Matt Barrie is a journalist; I thought that was the name of a former player (I don't think I've ever seen Matt Barrie)

I mean, I think everybody was cringing a little bit.  But it was clear that he was just overcome by the moment.  Not even really the win.  The guy did not know he was going to be acting as head coach in one the biggest games in the history of the program until an hour before the game.

It's just ridiculous that that is their takeaway from the game.

I thought the crying was completely fine, great even.  I just think you have to have a little bit of time/place/manner awareness and not cuss up a storm.  Maybe you can get the one in, but need to check it after that.

Granted I did not hear the context where it was being discussed because I would never watch an ESPN post-game show.

What is fair to say is that it was over the top when considering that Harbaugh was only banned from the sideline and not from coaching the team. What ESPN said was not what was bad. I mean the team was going to see Harbaugh when they got on the bus. However, it’s the way ESPN mocked Moore considering the context of the network’s hit jobs sullying the reputations of the entire program and everyone associated with it without providing opportunities for rebuttal or due process.

I saw it and posted about it yesterday probably ore than once on one of the numerous and duplicative threads.

It was completely classless and the Walt Disney Company should apologize for the conduct of their employees and terminate the employment of these three.

I remember watching this when it was Trev Alberts - current Nebraska AD - and Mark May. Dudes were talking mostly complete garbage even back then, but they were more entertaining than the current guys. Mullen and Galloway aren't even good at talking trash.

Does anyone know if there is a college football highlight show that is not on ESPN?  I don't know of any.

Half of College Football Final is just fluff:  interview quotes, meaningless opinions, helmet stickers and other stupidities.  I watch it for the highlights and fast-forward through all the nonsense.

If there's another highlight show I'd love to check it out.
