Dwumfour Out For Citrus Bowl; Medical Procedure

Submitted by Ezekiels Creatures on December 29th, 2019 at 4:45 PM

Senior tackle Michael Dwumfour is not with the Wolverines in Florida and has been ruled out for the Citrus Bowl game against Alabama, Michigan spokesman Dave Ablauf confirmed to MLive on Sunday.

“Michael had a medical procedure that prevented him from traveling and participating in the bowl game,” Ablauf wrote in a text message.......

Expect more playing time for true-freshmen tackle Chris Hinton, who had nine tackles in 11 games; junior Jess Speight (five tackles in six games) and true freshmen Mazi Smith, who appeared in one game.

Bama will run for 300+ yards.  Was already going to be a challenge, but this will probably be uglier than Wisconsin and OSU.

All their NFL bound skill position players can sit out and it won't matter as they will run us over.

Does Chuck Filiaga have any experience at D Line?

Either that, or did they bring the kitchen sink with them on the plane?

If you think Alabama’s defense is that good watch the tape of their game against a very poor Ole Miss team. With a true freshman qb Ole Miss ran the ball very well. Bamas defensive front is not what it’s been in past years. Raequan Davis is their best pass rusher and he is vastly overrated. About half their defensive starters are true freshmen. I can’t remember his name, but #45 kept getting pancaked by Ole Miss’s left tackles, one of whom was a true freshman (they platooned are left tackle). That kid is very good (Nick Broeker, a consensus three star recruit who Ohio State tried to flip) but a true freshman nonetheless.

their receivers, conversely, are small but lightening fast and of course Najee Harris is who he is. But the idea that Bama is unbeatable is simply wrong. Also Michigan is not as bad as many on this board seem to think.

Anyway, I am sick of all the naysayers on this blog. You have made it clear that you think Michigan is bad. You can shut up now.

No problem. I think we recruited a boatload of defensive tackles in the past few cycles. *Checks 247 and sees 0 DTs taken in 2018, 2 DTs taken in 2019, and 0 DTs in 2020. How about Jordan Glasgow or Ben Mason vs. Bama?

I suspect Harbaugh assumes the best in people, and bends over backwards to help them.  Look at how he tried to give Drevno and Pep the softest landings he could manage.  This comes back to bite him because the majority of coaches are self-serving, backstabbing jackasses that need to be kept on a short leash, or let go quickly if they spend more time in job interviews than game prep.

D.J. Derpin' was out too quickly to do too much lasting damage, but OL recruiting stagnated under Drevno and now it turns out Mattison had been coaching the D-line these past few years with an eye towards the door.  Not that coaches are ever fully in charge of recruiting their own positions but the scouting reports have to cross their desks and that's tough when there's a pair of boots on 'em.

I'm wondering who's botching the CB recruiting.  Zordich doesn't seem to follow the pattern of mercenaries but it's my understanding that he's not all that involved in DB recruiting.  He just takes what he's given and whips them into the best shape he can manage.  I mean, he was here well before CB recruiting collapsed so I can't believe he's part of the problem -- just not the solution, either.

The football coaching staff is not very good at a number of things. To be an elite program , we need better recruiting ,better offensive and defensive schemes . Jim had every advantage coming in and it has passed. The reality of Jim not being a good recruiter is very disappointing .

What gave him "every advantage?"

I think he should be doing better, but when he came in, the program had been crappy for 7 years and not elite the way fans think it was for quite a while...let's say 20 years. What was his "every advantage?"

Just sounding like Hoke and saying, "Well, this is MIchigan" doesn't cut it, either

Alabama’s interior O Line is enormous.
LG 6-7, 360 C 6-6, 310, RG 6-4, 338. That size can wear you down. Kemp and Hinton are going to have to eat their Wheaties.

their tackles are both 1st round picks at 6-6, 310 and 6-5, 320.

And then they have a 230 lb athletic freak at RB.

He missed several games this year. Better for him to fully heal and develop himself to be even better next year. Excellent for Hinton and Smith to get experience against Alabama.
