Durkin praise for Peppers QBing defense !

Submitted by bluecrush on

NO... Peppers is not moving to QB (although If they need him there Durkin said he would loan him to offense if it was best for the TEAM) But he IS QBing the defence!

It's hard to label (anyone as most consistent), but he was a consistent performer for us,"

He's vocal, but he leads by example because he brings it every day."

he's also shown the ability to call out coverages and sets on every snap, almost without exception. This is a skill Michigan's sorely lacked in recent years

(EDIT) Title.  Sorry did not mean to be misleading.

I probably wouldn't have clicked on this thread if you hadn't hinted that he was playing QB on offense. It would be nice to see a more accurate thread title.

But the general response to people who complain about dumb topics being started on MGoBoard is, "YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO CLICK ON IT." Which I agree with.

It follows, though, that titling a super dumb topic with a misleading/semi-interesting subject is indisputably annoying (again, mildly so. This is the MGoBoard, not a United Nations Security Council vote).

"Yeah, well you didn't need to click on the thread when the topic obviously didn't interest you."

Wordplay and misdirection in a subject is always downvote worthy, particularly when the topic turns on a banality.

Stay healthy. The problem that is created by these "once in a lifetime talents" like peppers is that it creates a dependency. If he goes down we certainly may see a huge decline defensively. This is why we need more depth and more talent. Please by the grace of God he must stay healthy for us to have a decent to good year, or until the O can gain its footing.

1.) Typically, a player being called the "quarterback of the defense" wouldn't be threadworthy. But if you want to start a thread about it, fine. If I don't want to read it, I won't click (as many point out). You, however,

2.) Title it "QB Peppers" obviously implying Peppers might take a few snaps at QB (my thought was, "huh, is he running a scout team practicing the spread? Wildcat?")... you know you created this implication because your first word after that was, "NO"

It's this sort of shit that, in my opinion, clutters the board with nonsense. Not a big deal, but mild annoyance. Hence, the downvotes.

Folks are getting upset over the former title, which I didn't see anyway, but the linked article calles him a 'defensive leader' which to me isn't much of a stretch to call him the QB of the defense.  However, the fact that it called him a QB at all confused folks, causing them to downvote a misleading title...but given all the other QBs Michigan has on the roster, did you really think he was moving to that position?  Really?

The article may have been a fluff piece, but it was somewhat informative, and definitely board worthy.  Folks getting pissed about a bad post title but a decent article...seriously, lighten up would ya?  Was your day ruined?  Was this a total waste of your time to read the article?  Live and learn, but quit your damn complaining about stupid shit.  Save it for the trolls, which this guy obviously is not.  Just a little perspective, please.

It's not too shocking that the most talented player in years had the best spring.

But the guy is a RS frosh/sophomore working with a sort of new staff. The idea that someone this young would be the field general and brain trust for this very experienced defense really is kind of incredible.

Can't wait to watch him play for the next 2 years.

I expect this defense to be really strong this year - no excuses. Once we get healthy, Lyons and the freshman, we'll have no excuses not to be great. I don't know if we'll be elite, but we should be a great defense.

Offensively, it'll take some time, but I'm perfectly fine watching our defense win games.
