....and I have no idea who the guy is.

Maryland announces that Michigan defensive analyst Matt Barnes will serve as linebackers coach. He also coached under DJ Durkin at Florida.

I thought you meant Durkin had put his hands on one of his staff members in an inappropriate way.

EDIT: Original title of this thread was "Durkin Grabs a Staff Member". I'm sticking with my original post.

Maryland... not to mention he was an interim coach at Florida and previous grad assistant.

Smart hire by Durkin.  Barnes is a local dude as well ...from the Washington Post...

Barnes also has ties to the region as a 2008 graduate of Salisbury University, located on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Barnes played football for four years at the school.

This guy seems meh, but his other hires have potential.

Beatty was Virginia's running backs coach under new Maryland defensive line coach/associate head coach Mike London last season and had reportedly joined the Syracuse staff as wide receivers coach in December. Beatty's previous coaching stops include Wisconsin, Illinois, Vanderbilt, West Virginia and Northern Illinois. He was NFL star Percy Harvin's high school coach in the early 2000s and also helped recruit Baltimore high school star Tavon Austin to West Virginia.
Sounds like this guy will be a + recruiter for Durkin in the DMV area.
