Doyle's Catch #1 Top Play on SC Tonight!

Submitted by freejs on

I had a feeling it would be pretty high on the list.

They kind of blew it, by not setting it up with the two HRs in the top half of the inning, which made a game-saving fence grab that much more ridiculous, but still, that's got to be an awesome thrill for our women.

Well deserved. What an ending!

I was really surprised to see it there at #1. Pretty cool though. We have to remember to vote bomb ESPN tomorrow to make sure it wins the top play vote on Best of the Best.

I mean, it was awesome - but I wish they showed the game tying and go ahead homers in the top half. I have watched A LOT of baseball/softball in my life - I don't think I've ever seen a game tying home run, a go ahead home run, and a game-saving robbery of a home run to end a game. That is just crazy.

This game reminded me of that Michigan Vandy game awhile ago when we were facing David Price and had a huge win with insane plays. Derek Vanbuskirk robbed Vanderbilt of a homerun as well.

and am still amazed by Doyle's catch.  She had so little time to adjust (that ball was absolutely SMOKED by that ASU hitter) and yet Doyle played it perfectly, knowing where she was relative to the wall and simultaneously reaching for that wall while timing her jump just at the right instant to secure the catch.

Looked so graceful, but that was one tough play to make.  Balls hit right at you are often the hardest to judge---a single mis-step in, and that ball would have been over her head.

Ok when I saw headline I thought it would have been strange for one of our bball recruits making a routine catch in a summer league game to make SC #1.

I managed to catch the last half of the game, and what makes Doyle's catch that much more incredible is that it was one of those moments where a few inches in any direction and our conversation about this game is much different. Instead, it is ASU who goes home and we live on to play another day. Awesome grab and a great finish to the game in Tempe.

That was the best Top 10 I've seen in probably a year...especially this time of year where you get routine double plays and lazy half dives as "top plays."

All 10 of those were VERY good. I usually like to put them in my own order, but I can't say they were wrong last night, good job sports world way to do shit the rest of us can't do.

30 years ago in 1984, who would've thought Michigan Softball would be #1 on sportscenter--a national sports show everyone watches.

This is Alumni Field 30 ago.

Last night I had to meet a friend who was having a kind of crisis, and the bar we met at was showing the Tigers game, no softball.  So I was in the dark, and I almost checked twitter for the score but didn't.   I should have known something good was up when I walked in to the house and my husband had the DVR cued up to replay the 7th inning, just waiting for me.

YES!

It was so sweet to watch.  Those homers!  That catch!

Rickey Doyle plays softball? Awesome, must have good speed and agility for a big man if he can rob a homerun!
