Don't Shoot the Messenger - Dante Moore

Submitted by Counterstrike Guy on July 8th, 2022 at 9:54 AM

Heard from a little birdie sitting on a girder in de_vertigo last night that the ongoing conference realignment may have shaken up Moore's decision today.  If Oregon gets left out in the cold (isn't offered a spot in the B1G+) and is stuck playing in diminished PAC10-, that could cause him to decide between between TAMU's $ and M's class.

Here's to hoping he makes the right decision.

Honestly, it should affect the decision of these kids. You don't want to play for a little 2 conference and potentially get left out of national title chances

If I were deciding on a school for my career I would be watching these developments very closely.

I am sure he doesn’t want to play on the 2nd stage.

It’s not like he’s locked into his decision. So he doesn’t “have” to hold off. Oregon still has the potential to join the B1G. He has plenty of time to flip his commitment or he can sign with Oregon, play for a year and then transfer in 2024 when the new alignment starts.

If he wants to go to Oregon right now, there’s no reason to hold off. He may not hear definitive plans on what Oregon is doing 2024-beyond until after signing day anyway.

Because no one knows when it will shake out (or how it will shake out). It's all speculation. It took a year between Oklahoma/Texas moving and USC/UCLA moving. Oregon has a marquee game against Georgia this year. Their next "marquee" game isn't really until 2029 (against MSU). That means that, for the moment, Oregon is relegated to West Coast games and 10 PM TV slots while Moore is there That means very little exposure. That means he won't be Bryce Young or TJ Stroud, or whoever is QBing those teams in 2024. Sure, Oregon might be able to offer a great up-front NIL deal, but if Moore is basing his decision almost exclusively on that, he's getting bad advice (or not listening to good advice). Being able to play games against Ohio St, PSU, MSU (still Texas?) offers a lot of opportunity to expand NIL options and build your brand. And, at this moment only Michigan offers the chance to roll into LA in 2024/2025 and play USC or UCLA, and get a 8:00 ABC slot. Oregon will be playing Eastern Washington at 10 on some to be determined network. I'm by no means saying Moore should turn down a $5 million NIL deal (or whatever it is), but, IMO this could be a huge selling point for UM, as well as other BIG 10 teams. It might be too late to land Moore, but even the news of adding USC/UCLA should be a boon to BIG 10 recruiting.

Oregon might actually get left out for simple economics: it doesn't bring enough to the table to justify it monetarily.  If Oregon is accepted to B1G, it diminishes the $$$ pool for the other schools.  That's why they're patiently waiting on ND, because it would be a net gain.

Oregon is not a slam dunk.

If the conference realignment is actually affecting his decision, there is no way he'd make his decision today imo. One can only hope he pulls a reverse Josh Christopher

If you're hearing birds talking to you, then I'd say you've got bigger problems that Dante Moore's decision. Weird echos of Son of Sam in this post.

I don't think there is a reason to be upset with this, but instead this seems to be pretty exciting news.

The change of the temperature of recruiting would be wild if Moore ended committing to Michigan... and the feeling of the direction of the team would rival the OSU win this past year.

He could have committed to Michigan this whole time. We have been on him since the 7th grade. This has felt like bridesmaid situation the whole time with him. My guess would be that if the situation OP mentioned is true, it’ll be A&M. Hell he woulda committed to Notre Dame by now  if CJ hadn’t committed there first.

I wonder how long he'll delay his decision, if he even does so?  I mean, Oregon isn't going to get an invite to the B1G until ND decides what they want to do, and that doesn't have to be until someone else breaks the GoR contract with the ACC.  Why does ND have to bear the brunt of that legal battle when UNC, FSU, Clemson, and whoever else also want out?  Until a group of schools decide to bail at once, thus relieving the ACC of 'conference' status, no one school is going to eat that litigation cost.

Dante might have to wait until next year sometime if he wants to see what happens...

Sorry but I kinda call bs. If this was true why would he commit today and not wait a while until after Oregon's conference fate is decided?

So usually, when someone says "don't shoot the messenger", it means they're delivering bad news. This is...kinda normal news, if not a little bit positive.

The PAC is breaking/broken apart.  Getting stuck there . . .  playing football on pacific time . . . with no television viewers  . . . against lower level opponents  . . . . is a disaster.
