This is bizarre. The portal is becoming (or already has become) a better opp to influx talent than recruiting. At some point, presumably the pendulum will swing the other way as teams hiring guys flipping and flopping ultimately leads to full-on free agency and complete program instability. I think this plus the 12 team playoff really gets us to more parity across the sport. Guys aren't sitting at elite programs to wait for their shot. They aren't even finishing 1 season before bailing. Bama, Georgia, OSU, USC... places that have insane amounts of talent... are going to see 10-20 kids bail a year.

We know how this will most likely go.

Michigan is high on my list.  They are great.  I love the culture there.  It feels like a great family.  Amazing coaches.

A week later:  commits somewhere else

Here’s a little context to his performance so far into his career.

“The climb always was going to be steep. Jackson missed his final high school season because of a knee injury, then played just 45 snaps as a freshman. In July, he acknowledged he’d never had to learn defensive concepts or proper technique before joining USC’s defense, adding another obstacle to his development.”

USC and Riley remind me of the late 70s/early 80s Chargers with Dan Fouts, great WRs and TE, some talent on D (Fred Dean, Louie Kelcher) but always winning or losing games 41-38, etc. It had to be a pain going back on D. The coaching must have been bad to be so bad on scoring D.

Maybe he realizes he can come to play for a team founded on great D, power running game + TEs offense, and have chances to learn under a great D staff.

If we got Jackson and/or Stout would it be plausible to flip Amorion Walker back to offense? We need a tall WR.

On defense we would have Stout, McBurrow, and safeties to potentially fill Mike's spot. We would then potentially have Stout, Waller, Hill, Jackson fighting for CB2 plus Pollard and Jones still in the oven.

Can Walker catch? He's a great athlete, but I don't see a kid who is going to play next year either. I think he's going be solid, I just think that will he in 2025. Ultimately, my expectations for him are: Channing Stribling.

Which, I'll take that for 2 years.

As for Jackson, put him in the mix. As you mentioned, Michigan has some other intriguing options.

Stout is being recruited for NB, to replace Sainristil. However, I really like McBurrows there.

Competition is a good thing, toss em all out there and may the best man win.

I will leave this one totally up to the coaches. After watching him, play a few times this year, let me qualify this. I am no football coach, but I don’t think he would play much at all here.

This is great.  Now we can have a 2nd go at highly rated players who we endlessly obsessed over, and then committed elsewhere!  Just like the good old days with Najee Harris, D'Shawn Hand, ROJO, or Stefon Diggs.

Yes please. What do you suppose would happen if JJ comes back and UM beats Ryan Day a fourth straight time? I like to ponder that as the current meltdown has been enjoyable.
