Does Penn State have a chance to beat State next weekend?

Maybe they will try to test MSU's corners more than OSU did. And their D-Line with Zettel etc. may be able to do a better job holding up against the run.

Multiple variables, but certainly. And it would not be the first time PSU has ruined MSU's season.

1. Most important - MSU will be favored. No chip here.

2. If O'Connel is the QB (no Cook or no Terry), not sure they can move the ball against PSU.

3. Hackenberg's (most likely) last game. Hopefully he's healthy.

4. Chaos of November. MSU has gotten lucky. Hopefully this is where it falls short.

5. If we beat OSU, the entire city of Ann Arbor will be screaming at televisions... has to help somewhat!

Go Blue. Go Lions. Beat Ohio State.

Hackenberg will get bludgeoned to death, but before then I really like the matchup of him throwing bombs over spartys secondary and over aggressive defense.

Of course they have a chance.  If Cook can't play, how does MSU move the ball?  If the PSU line can manage to give Hackenburg even a bit of time, PSU will make some plays over the top.

Unfortunately not. Dan 'Antonio has sacrificed too much to get to this point for the wheels to come off now.  And by “sacrificed”, I don’t mean he put in long hours of work and kept his nose to the grindstone to the detriment of being able to develop social skills or meaningful relationships (though I suspect that’s probably true as well).  I mean he has literally bled animals to please whatever football god he prays to. There is literally no other logical explanation for their season.

It depends, when does Conner Cooke's HGH shipment arrive?

Keep an eye out for Magic Potion sent to msu's nutritionist.

Hey, shit happens. If good Hackenburg gets time to hit his wideouts, he can pick apart the Sparty DBs. If cook isn't playing, the PSU d-line should do a better job of containing the Sparty spread offense. Also, its weird watching MSU run a 2008 Michigan offense.

Agree with Mcruel and others who say PSU has a shot at beating MSU.  Shoulder injuries don't heal that quickly.  While I give Sparty credit for gutsy play today, OSU played tight, coached tight, and MASSIVELY CHOKED.   PSU is a good team not a great team, but could pose matchup problems for MSU.   PSU has good pass rush and can be good against the run.  Side point, while understand the disappointment MSU won today, having the opportunity to play OSU for a 10th win in Harbaugh's first year is still huge.   Biggest regret about today is OSU played so tight today they are bound not to be as tight next week.  Still, looks like Michigan has a great chance to win next week and would be a great win, and a great season.  Michigan football is ascending  in the next few years regardless of what Sparty does next week.

It totally depends on how they prepare.

Mark this: MSU is not really a "great team". They're solid. But not world-beaters.

Also, it's apparent that OSU was WAAAAAAY over-rated and/or underutilized by their coaches, so, pick your poison.

The real hedge is: What does PSU have to play for? Because MSU has EVERYTHING to play for.

If PSU can find reasons to get up for the game, then maybe. For instance, Nebraska wanted to bowl qualify. But PSU is already qualified. So, it depends on how much they want it.

But, they'll need to want it 100%. If it's going to happen at all.

It could definitely happen. No question. PSU has what it takes to beat MSU. And MSU is very beat-able.

We'll see.

That's part of the problem. PSU has nothing to play for. They can't win the division. They're already going to a bowl, a mediocre one. It's not a rivalry so that aspect is out. Hackenberg is likely looking to the future after two sub par seasons. They already had their senior day. It's on the road. The list goes on and on.

How did that work out when they played #3 OSU (and lost 38-10) earlier in the year? How did that work out when they played #12 Michigan today?

It's something, but not a very inspiring reason compared to knocking off a bitter rival or playing in your final home game or trying to extend the season, etc.

PSU does have a decent chance at defeating MSU if Cook doesn't play. MSU didn't really have to pass the ball today. OSU showed a weak run defense today for whatever reason. MSU QBs used run option all day. We beat PSU through the air. There was nothing weak about their run defense. We couldn't run at all on them. MSU may not be able to win with just running the ball, two weeks in a row. We need to keep hope alive.

I agree that it doesn't look good, mostly because of where the game is, but it's not impossible. It seems odd to me that a UM fan would be so interested in trying to argue against something that certainly is possible if Cook doesn't play.

I'm just being realistic. Is is possible for PSU to win? Yes, that's why they play the game. But if you look at the game closely, it becomes apparent that it is highly unlikely. I realize people are free to discuss whatever they want, but it just seems a bit pie in the sky to me.

MSU could easily have 6 losses right now: they lost to Nebraska and beat the following by one score: Oregon Rutgers Purdue Michigan Ohio State A typical one loss team at this point in the season maybe has maybe has a couple one possession games. They have been very fortunate to say the least.

Yes, and all 3 teams - Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State MUST win next week to keep their hopes alive. Any team that loses is out of the conference title hunt.
