There was a large amount of people who said Shane should have never been in there to take the hit because his ankle was injured enough that he couldn't escape pressure. Tonight was no different for Gardner.  He couldn't escape pressure and took one large hit. But, since Michigan won, the narrative is he's a warrior. The only difference was a win vs. a loss.

Shane's ankle injury situation was different in that we had a better QB available on the bench. Morris was hurt but also playing poorly. That is the key. Injury + performance meant that Shane should have come out of the game.

This game we had Bellomy on the bench, and, no offense to him, I think I could give this team just as much if I went out there as quarterback.

I don't think who the backup is should have any influence on whether to play or not to play the starting QB. And I'm most certainly not being a troll, it's just that at several points tonight it was VERY obvious that Gardner could not move well enough in the pocket to protect himself. Given that, even without a head injury, he should be taken out for his own safety. Gardner took one bad shot tonight, he doesn't need to take anymore because he feels the need to go out and hobble on one leg, no matter how good he's played (which he played great tonight when Michigan needed him). It just seems that from a quick glance that because Michigan won, everything is ok with Gardner's injuries whereas a loss probably would have resulted in a much greater scrutiny in Garner's leg injuries.

Everyone agrees concerning shots to the head that the coaches and players should err on the side of caution. The rules have been changed to insure the mindset stays this way. Still, this is american football, a contact sport that is violent by nature and players are going to feel pain and get hurt on almost every play to some extent. Your degree of concern...well, you might as well not even have the sport if guys can't play hurt. As a coach if you were that sensitive to injury you'd will soon have the softest team in America and you'd just as soon be out of a job as coach.

we had a better QB on the bench well before the ankle injury. our coaching staff just folded to all of the trolls begging to see shane morris from the start.

beyond that, its not even a question. either you say an injury that takes away your mobility makes you ineligible to play quarterback at the University of Michigan, or you dont. youre trying to argue both sides.

either we choose to be "Michigan fergodssakes!" and have a moral code on everything. injuries included, or we become an SEC program. From my view you are advocating something in between though I may be inferring too much from one post.

Myself, I'd rather be "Michigan, fergodssakes" not talking dinosaur offense, or punting, but that "we take school serious," and have a serious protocol for injuries, not dependent on who the backup is, but on the medical professionals opinions.

Of course it should always depend on what the medical professionals say. If a player is not cleared to play they do not play. If a player is banged up but is clear to play it becomes a very situational thing. If a team is up big late obviously a hurt player should be on the bench. In a close game where the best option is a hurting player it is alright to play him IF that player wants to be on the field. If a player is hurt enough that they are not able to perform better than the backup they should come out.

Lets be real, football is a violent game with a lot of injuries, and pretty much every player is hurting in some way, some more visibly than others. If you want to have a "moral code" about injuries in football, you probably shouldn't watch and support football, because many of these players are very likely negatively affecting their future health in some way, but of course it is their choice to play this sport.

1) It wasn't a head injury. Morris played through a leg injury too.

2) Devin did sit out for a couple series after and they took away his helmet so that he couldn't come back in. The fact that they gave him his helmet back probably means he was checked over.

3) Even when he returned, they didnt ask him to do anything except hand the ball off. This plan could have been absolutely backfired if our defense wasn't holding them back the entire 2nd half or if our o-line didn't step up in the last few drives.

This was calculated.

In this case the thought that a hurt, highly experienced Devin is better than our other options  is a major issue with Michigan going forward.  The relevancy for potential major injury due to low mobility is very concerning.  Albeit not equal with a head injury on that level.  The prinipal still is that a players safety was at high risk in exchange for a win applies imo?  Many coaches in the history of sport have done the same things.  This is more magnified based on recent events Frankly the scrutiny is good for the focus of the coaches and players.  There visually a higher level of passion!  Which I hope can be focused and funneled in the right areas of execution?

Nice to see our guys so happy!  They all are playing with lots of emotion and it is GREAT to see!  We still are not a good team.  Winning can change things and hopefully all the little nuances of the game will start to click?  Who knows what we can accomplish?  So many injuries, so much stress on the program right not (AD/coach/players/alumni players/students/fans).  Maybe all this pressure will produce a diamond that is natianally relavant?

Glad to see some fire back.  Let's see if they can sustain it.  I'm scared for him against Sparty in two weeks, however.  As much as watching this team and most other Big Teams play isn't very fun I'm proud and feel good for Devin and co. for getting a monkey off their back and getting an W for themselves and their coaches.
