Just keep adding to the warchest.

So he'll be a G.A. then?
February 6th, 2015 at 10:20 PM ^
It'll look real good on his resume. I think Fisch is the only assistant with a one year contract. I wonder if Harbaugh is lining up a replacement for when he takes a bigger job. That was my first thought when he hired TJ Wiest.
February 6th, 2015 at 10:31 PM ^
Guessing Fisch is just using this year as a jump off point to get back into the NFL with a Harbaugh recommendation. Can't blame him.
February 6th, 2015 at 10:42 PM ^
QB coach, WR coach, passing game coordinator, but his pay is much less than anyone but Jay H. So yeah, I think everyone is planning on his jumping back to the NFL. Hopefully, this season makes his resume all the more impressive.

There was a tweet from Nick B the week before the Citrus Bowl that Harbaugh and Fisch had a tenative contract extension planned out. Not sure of the details but sounds like Harbaugh wants to keep him around.

a lot of GAs are in effect unpaid position coaches... this is usually the case when you see a guy who has had a long career at the lower levels suddenly show up as a GA for a P5 school (think Dan Mullen's weird GA tenures at Syracuse and ND in the middle of his career). It's basically volunteer/part time coaching instead of the learning on the job/interny kind of GAs
I also feel like Fisch is effectively here while he waits out a college OC or NFL QB coaching gig. Weist will be our WR coach going forward, though.

So are you allowed to have as many coaches as you want, as long as they are GAs?

You know, the name is familar - didn't Montgomery play WR at Iowa State maybe 8-9 years ago? I cannot remember exactly when he was there, but I am pretty sure he was and I can remember the odd ESPN game back in the day when he was playing. I think his dad was an RB for the Philadelphia Eagles back in the day too and was an NFL position coach himself.
February 7th, 2015 at 10:36 AM ^
Wilbert Montgomery was the Ravens RB coach under John Harbaugh from 2008-2013 (now with the Cleveland Browns). He was also the all time leading rusher for the Philadelphia Eagles until LeSean McCoy passed him this year.

Hi, we're building an army.

Legend has it he stopped to take a leak in the Ohio River on his way to Ann Arbor.

Great reference, and even more Ironic is his main rivarly was MONTGOMERY from the brits.

Rommel, von Rundstedt, Keitel, Jodl, of course.

the ohio river is completely in kentucky. so pissing in the river is pissing on UK/UL. pissing in the Maumee river on the other hand i mission accomplished.
February 7th, 2015 at 1:30 AM ^
the Ohio River marks the border between Ohio and Kentucky/West Virginia.
February 7th, 2015 at 2:06 AM ^
Let us not forget that the mouth of the Maumee lies in Toledo, MI. This is the birthplace of Coach Harbaugh. Show a little respect.
February 7th, 2015 at 1:25 PM ^
and went to university of toledo (and meechigan). if you want to get technical, every toledoan and most of NW ohio wizzies into the maumee, since the waste water treatment facility for toledo dumps into the maumee just north of downtown.

It feels like Harbaugh's collective staff is already twice as large as Hoke's ever was. What's the deal? Is Harbaugh taking full advantage of being able to hire as many 'non-coaches' as he wants?
February 6th, 2015 at 9:21 PM ^
Harbaugh actually knows what he's doing.

He is taking advantage of the many and various resources we are blessed to have. Most schools don't have them. But we do and he is going to use them.
Remember his recruiting presser quote about always striving for the extra edge, even if it is just an extra 1 percent or an extra 1 mile and hour?
That was not all just BS for the media. This is that philosophy in action.
February 7th, 2015 at 2:16 AM ^
It's not that Brady Hoke didn't know what he was doing. His teams could have been better and this lead to his not being coach. I would say that Coach Harbaugh (I love saying that!) is a much more modern coach who goes about things a little differently. Remember, there was a time when an entire coaching staff would be 3-5 men and nobody had "coordinator" as part of their title. Times change. People here even questioned (briefly) if we should devote an assistant solely to Special Teams.
Just because it appears that Coach Harbaugh is a better overall coach than Brady Hoke doesn't mean that Hoke doesn't have a clue what he's doing. I would bet you a thousand dollars that if we sat down with Brady Hoke and watched one single play from any game that he could explain what went on much better than you or I could.
I'm gonna say "Coach Harbaugh" one more time, just because it feels good.
Coach Harbaugh.
February 6th, 2015 at 9:23 PM ^
Maybe it's just that when Hoke hired a GA nobody cared, nobody tweeted it and there wasn't a thread about the tweet that didn't exist.
February 6th, 2015 at 9:33 PM ^
Lol that's so true. RCMB and 11W each have 3 open threads solely dedicated to Harbaugh shenanigans.
But Michigan doesn't matter!

That might help in some indirect form but GAs aren't allowed to recruit if I recall.
February 7th, 2015 at 1:32 AM ^
I feel like the day's developments as well as the overall shape of our class imply that Florida and not California will be the primary target of our recruiting operation going forward. So anyone who knows the lay of the land will help.
February 7th, 2015 at 7:04 AM ^
Than CA. But, it sounds from the 2016 players being targeted early, that CA will also be a major focus of our recruiting.

You don't get to the top of the mountain like JH has done without knowing what you are doing. He is so perfect for this job, it's game on against the enemy now. I live in IL and have been driving back for every game since moving here 7 yrs ago. I'm glad I didn't give up the tickets for this year.
He will not allow this staff or the players to give less than 110% - what a great feeling knowing he is running the show.
