My brain hurts. Why Chip Kelly is continuously being mentioned by fans is beyond me. He isn't coming. Shouldn't be hard to figure out why...
January 8th, 2011 at 10:00 PM ^
Well, before a few days ago, everyone was on Harbaugh's nuts and it was 100% guaranteed he'd be coming to Michigan.
Now look at where we're at...
Kelly fits a good portion of Brandon's criteria.
January 8th, 2011 at 10:11 PM ^
Kelly is playing in the national championship. Played in the Rose Bowl last year. Has the best offence in the nation. Coaches at a school with unlimited funding and resources. Could command whatever salary he wanted and would be provided. Recruits are flocking to go to Oregon.
Do I need to continue...?
EDIT: UM could offer him 5 million. Phil Knight could offer him 50 million. Please. Just stop.

We'll see if he gets a raise. I assume he will, but he's not making a lot at the moment. It's a pipe dream, but he would have to be the ideal replacement; as our offense would remain intact.
January 8th, 2011 at 10:09 PM ^
Seriously, do half of these people watch college football. Michigan is not a dominant program right now and really hasn't been for quite a few years. He has a team in the BCS championship game and an open checkbook from the superbooster that created NIKE. His situation right now is almost better than any situation Michigan could offer him. EVER.

Except for one thing. Their helmets don't have wings. Their jerseys yes. But not the helmets....

on any given week they could

He'd be a lot cooler if he did.

He'd be a lot cooler if he did.
January 8th, 2011 at 9:57 PM ^
you're kidding right? You're honestly suggesting a guy who is playing for the national title and has every key player returning next year?
January 8th, 2011 at 10:03 PM ^
That's exactly why he'll be staying at Oregon.
January 8th, 2011 at 10:05 PM ^
wait, have we reached a decision on whether Ross is still a Michigan man?
January 8th, 2011 at 10:08 PM ^
Right.
He makes $1.5 million a year at Oregon. He could make around $5 million a year at Michigan.
January 8th, 2011 at 10:13 PM ^
and Oregon could easily match that, if anybody tried to poach him.
January 8th, 2011 at 10:13 PM ^
Find the recently published article about Phil Knight's influence on the University of Oregon. Great read.
January 8th, 2011 at 10:05 PM ^
Les Miles was in that exact same position in 2007 and yet he was our leading candidate for much of the search, so just because Kelly is playing in the NC doesn't mean it's impossible.
January 8th, 2011 at 10:07 PM ^
Les Miles also coached at Michigan, Chip Kelly not so much
January 8th, 2011 at 10:08 PM ^
Les Miles was the leading candidate of the fans and the media. He was never offered the job, never interviewed for the job, and it's debatable whether he was even contacted.

that the Chip Kelly rumors should have legs, I'm just saying the national championship shouldn't be what disqualifies him. What disqualifies him is that he would never leave Oregon (a team he has turned into a perennial contender in the soon to be Pac-12) for a rebuilding Michigan team. I think a lot of coaches who are having success at regional schools have learned from what Rich Rod did three years ago - leaving a good local situation for a national clusterfu*k.

Chip Kelly? omfg
January 8th, 2011 at 9:58 PM ^
Yes, let's poach him away from his extremely well funded football program right before they play in the national championship game!!!!!
January 8th, 2011 at 9:59 PM ^
is a pretty good point.

I never said he is coming to Michigan, or anything of the like. People seem to be mentioning TCU's Gary Patterson, and he's in nearly as great of a position.

January 8th, 2011 at 10:04 PM ^
Chip Kelly's pulling about $2.3/year from Oregon. I highly doubt TCU is even coming close to that.
Have you seen the facilities at Oregon? The fanbase? There's about 300 reasons why Kelly's in a much better position than Patterson.
January 8th, 2011 at 9:59 PM ^
no he is no better then rich rod . no mich ties & im tired of the pure spread
January 8th, 2011 at 10:03 PM ^
Oregon fans were tired of watching their team score 49 points a game this season. As far as the OP, though, there is no way in hell Kelly would come here.

was my first choice thats if we could get him.
January 8th, 2011 at 10:00 PM ^
Yea and UM is waiting to contact Bill Belichick after the Patriots win the Super Bowl.

If Brandon can poach Oregon's cheerleading squad, he can hire Hoke. And I'll call it even.
January 8th, 2011 at 10:01 PM ^
There's not a single reason why Chip would leave Oregon for Michigan. Not one.
January 8th, 2011 at 10:05 PM ^
says hi.

says hi.
January 8th, 2011 at 10:02 PM ^
OK....stop. Enough with the ridiculous. Seriously, stop and think about what you are saying. Why would he leave Oregon when he's about to play in a national championship?
January 8th, 2011 at 10:03 PM ^
Because Michigan will pay him more.
January 8th, 2011 at 10:08 PM ^
January 8th, 2011 at 10:10 PM ^
Well, I wanted peoples' thoughts and opinions on him as a coach, how he'd do at Michigan, etc.
Instead, everyone freaks out, neg-bombs, and leaves without offering any input -- which ultimately was the goal. I mean, neg if it makes you happier about the situation, but at least offer ... something.
January 8th, 2011 at 10:16 PM ^
We did offer input...the input is that you are irrational and need to go re-evaluate your knowledge of college football. You can't just throw any name out there and expect the people of this board to respect it as a viable option.
