Death Storm 2016 - Open Thread
I hear things are getting very dicey already in some parts of the state. What are you going to do to celebrate death storm? Drink? Possibly drink? Reports from all over the State would be helpful in order for everybody to decide when to start, well, drinking. I think those attendance estimates for the game tonight are going down by the minute.

Most kids will get lucky tomorrow, I know all are pulling for a snowday, something we all did.
February 24th, 2016 at 10:15 AM ^
My gym uses the AAPS closing to decide if they will close, and Thursday is one of my days to go to the gym. So I'm annoyed.
February 24th, 2016 at 10:17 AM ^
Well that stinks, that is the worst. Gotta get that workout in.
February 24th, 2016 at 10:28 AM ^
You're annoyed, but are you "enraged"? Are you so pissed you might miss "leg day" that you might, oh, say, start punching random objects in your house?? Finally, have you noticed your hairline rapidly receding over the last few years??? :-D
February 24th, 2016 at 10:48 AM ^
Leg day? What's that?
February 24th, 2016 at 11:10 AM ^
I know stereotypes are wrong and mostly untrue, but the guy in that video is every male under 40 from New Jersey. Every single one...
February 24th, 2016 at 11:16 AM ^
I can't really disagree with you. I got PCS'd out here a little over a year ago and a culture shock it was. I think I'm the only male out here with blonde hair.
February 24th, 2016 at 11:42 AM ^
Goddamn PCS. Whatever it is, I'm sure it sucks. Along with that blonde hair burden. . Thoughts and prayers.
February 24th, 2016 at 11:48 AM ^
Child Services???
February 24th, 2016 at 12:13 PM ^
protecting other from?
February 24th, 2016 at 12:18 PM ^
It looks like they were talking about the military, so whatever people are referring to when they say "protecting our freedoms" I guess.
February 24th, 2016 at 11:59 AM ^
PCS = Permanent Change of Station also known as being stationed somehwere. It sounds much nicer than forcibly moved under threat of imprisonment. Alternatiively the phrase when I moved there this fall also works.
On a side note, I may have to get our man 1 percent a military to english dictionary along with the tragic news that he can't just use "fuck" to fill in a verbal pause and will have to switch to "um' or "uh" iunstead.
February 24th, 2016 at 12:05 PM ^
Yeah, why DOES the military use so many acronyms? And if anyone can tell me what this is without Googling, I will laugh-cry... ADCOMSUBORDCOMPHIBSPAC
February 24th, 2016 at 12:31 PM ^
Step back guys, I got this. It's obviously:
Acronyms = Dumb. Consider Others; Maybe Something Uncomplicated Based On Reports Detailing Complex Overworked Military Parlance Have Inverse By-products (Seemingly Producing Asploded Craniums).
February 24th, 2016 at 12:32 PM ^
Seeing as how the V.P. is such a V.I.P., shouldn't we keep the P.C. on the Q.T.? 'Cause if it leaks to the V.C. he could end up M.I.A., and then we'd all be put out in K.P.
February 24th, 2016 at 12:34 PM ^
Well, I am not sure what exaclty it is, but I know enough about the acronyms in my life to know it's an administrative command for amphibious forces in the pacific.
February 24th, 2016 at 12:54 PM ^
I got that part as well, but am having trouble parsing out the AD part for some weird reason.
February 24th, 2016 at 1:21 PM ^
Administrative Command, Amphibious Forces, Pacific Fleet Subordinate Command. The U.S. Military: Keepin' it Simple since 1776!
February 24th, 2016 at 6:34 PM ^
The military seems to prefer abbreviations using the first syllable of each word. So my guess at your mess would be:
Adjutant Commander for Submarine Ordnance Computed in Hilbert Space.
Google says I'm wrong...
February 24th, 2016 at 12:38 PM ^
Good lookin' out, Rabbit. I do struggle to not use the word "fuck" in place of commas. Maybe a nice lengthy PowerPoint presentation about it would help me out.
February 24th, 2016 at 12:46 PM ^
Dude, unless things have drastically changed since I got out, the military has got nothing on consulting.
But it may indeed help, I can't speak to another mans fetishes, I was a pilot and therefore loved playing volleyball with my shirt off wearing dogtags, so who am I to judge?
February 24th, 2016 at 12:48 PM ^
Were you ever inverted?
I'm heading off to OTS for pilot training next month. Can't wait. Also, fuck PowerPoint.
February 24th, 2016 at 2:49 PM ^
Best of luck to you, you're up for a couple of very tough years, but the reward is pretty darn sweet. Enjoy the T-6!
February 24th, 2016 at 12:34 PM ^
Thanks, man. It's been a rough life ... I'm also a lefty so it's just one thing after another. Since I'm military and at work I forgot who I was talking to for a second there. PCS = Permanent Change of Station, military term for "pack your bags and your family and move across the country"
February 24th, 2016 at 12:39 PM ^
Ex-Air Force going on eight years now, I'm still using terms people have to google.
February 24th, 2016 at 12:44 PM ^
Thank you for your service. they always say the transition to civvy life isn't easy. I'm probably a lifer, 8 years enlisted, officer school next month.

Shovel some snow, Nancy.
February 24th, 2016 at 10:22 AM ^
I live in a complex that does all that, so I don't even own a shovel.
February 24th, 2016 at 10:27 AM ^
Use your hands to optimize your workout.
February 24th, 2016 at 12:10 PM ^
Better yet, if you're worried about leg day, put on some flippers and kick the snow out of the way.
February 24th, 2016 at 11:56 AM ^
I live in Los Angeles so it is 85 degrees and sunny today.
February 24th, 2016 at 12:58 PM ^
its winter. its supposed to snow. hopefully a lot. don't drive like a bonehead. let it snow.
February 24th, 2016 at 1:24 PM ^
But a high pressure system over the last few months have pushed all of the storms up to No Cali, Oregon and Washington....so it has been in the 80's the last few weeks...but we have amazing snow 4-5 hours away.
February 24th, 2016 at 1:30 PM ^
when we would have football practice out there and it would rain, most of the guys on the team were from warmer/southern places, so they would not dig the weather. me on the other hand, along with another guy who had played at iowa and was from michigan too, we would shame them mercilessly about their high-wuss-content, cramping, and other man-shaming phrases as they would complain about the cold or the rain.
February 24th, 2016 at 11:02 AM ^
Julesh, I have a solution. I know some retirees in Ann Arbor who could really use help shovelling snow. You can be a great helper, and get plenty of exercise. Plus, if there are any muscle groups you aren't already exercising, this will identify them.
February 24th, 2016 at 10:25 AM ^
I'm hoping I get lucky tomorrow, but I'm married so probably not.
February 24th, 2016 at 11:04 AM ^
Would love to hear more. A snow day where you and your wife are trapped indoors in a warm house? Methinks you could get very lucky.
February 24th, 2016 at 11:51 AM ^
all caught up on your favorite TV show by days end.......
Either way, should be a good day

BIGGER
February 24th, 2016 at 10:29 AM ^
My kids were talking about it this morning and are begging for it. I doubt it'll happen for them (Dexter schools). Too much of the snow is happening today for it to be a problem to clear for tomorrow morning's buses. For their sake, I hope I'm wrong. It'd be the one and only snow day this year.
February 24th, 2016 at 10:30 AM ^
tommorow. The heaviest portion of this is actually happening over night.
February 24th, 2016 at 11:10 AM ^
5cm thus far (3 hours). Based on the hourly forecast, it seems we'll get over half our total before midnight. My kids are rooting for ijohnb.

Google or any American 4th grader could help with that question.

We fought for the right to use a confusing measurement system.
February 25th, 2016 at 11:04 AM ^
Hear! Hear! (or perhaps only here! only here!). That fight also entitled us to express all units of measure without fear of censorship or restraint. Can't we all just measure together?
EDIT: ijohnb was right. Kids are ecstatic...too bad the ignitor on the furnace went out last night. Finally back up and running. Shovelling is a great way to keep warm.

son's district already closed tomorrow, FWIW.
February 24th, 2016 at 11:39 AM ^
Which district? I think my kids will want a transfer.

like to get too specific for irrational paranoid reasons, but a northern Oakland County suburb.
