Don't like the fact that he's wearing their colors, but would hate to see the kid suffer because of bureaucracy.

I'm sure our staff wanted him and I'm sure we had a small chance, but it seemed that he was set on MSU from the start (of him transferring.) Despite his perceived douchiness on social media, kid seems to be pretty smart and wants to get to the NFL - MSU is a more established pro style offense at this point, and Maxwell is a talented QB (despite the inexperience).....the knew each other from their HS days, so you have to give the kid credit for going with his head. As much as I love Denards 2011 highlights, the jump balls he threw all year don't instill a lot of confidence in a WR trying to get to the next level.

The state of transition to pro style offense and lack of relationship with our staff hurt our chances with this kid, and MSU was able to pull him. Lack of scholarships is a dumb excuse.

Having said that, excited for he WRs coming in and happy to bank a scholly for a Treadwell etc.

He may well have gone to MSU anyway, but Michigan can't take an 86th player...FWIW, Sam Webb said that Arnett had an interest in Michigan but wasn't willing to wait for a scholarship.  He also said that Arnett had to mend fences with Dantonio because of something to do with his original recruitment, so MSU wasn't a slam dunk (at least if you believe Sam's version of events).

I am happy for DeAnthony! He will be a great receiver once he has time to learn the playbook and gain team chemistry with his teammates. While he was a slightly productive receiver at Tennessee, it may be possible that he doesn't have the same productivity at Staee, for whatever reason.

Whatever it takes to strengthen the Big 10 and weaken the SEC, I am fine with. Plus, he's no match for Countess, Floyd, Kovacs, and Gordon.

Kids should always be able to transfer to any school they want with no loss of eligibility years. They should also always have to sit out 1 year. No more, no less.

Nice to see an in-state kid catch a break in EL. That's become such a rarity with Dantonio's intergalactic recruiting wars on Naboo yielding all this success in 2013.

away from the free agency claim alot of teams will say about this one. Another thing is a year out wouldn't hurt him, that would get him a qb with some time under his belt at the helm. Seems to me there is a hardship beyond the obvious one, it is UM needs him worse than the Sparties do. Come to UM he could have got a SR denard throwing to him then a SR DG throwing to him, he may have enjoyed his first couple years unlike  what I think he is in for. IMO

Also IMO but he'll be in for a RS Junior QB behind an experienced (4/5 returners?) offensive line.  Because he couldn't play in the spring game none of us really know what Maxwell is capable of.  He could be great, a bust, or anything in between.

Good for him. The kid has caught a series of tough breaks and clearly deserves this. Hope he has a better experience at State, except for when he visits the Big House this year.

It is nice to see the NCAA do something that they really didn't have to do and grant this waiver - it is a pretty humane thing to do and hopefully Arnett can spend the time with his family that he has wanted because of his father's deteorating health.

That being said, I hope he is rendered ineffective for a few hours on the 20th of  October.
