Dave Brandon prefers to wait until after season to make coaching evaluations per ESPN.

Submitted by jdib on

I apologize if this is old news, I'm up early for work and watching the replay of Oregon/Arizona on ESPNU so I don't know if this is an old or new ticker shown during that game or current as of the time this morning but that was confirmed by ESPN.

If this is true, then I guess we know for sure that as long as good ol' Dave is in charge, we are stuck with what we have.

I suggest we dig in folks and prepare for a long 8 weeks.  Hopefully our young team can turn this around and prove me wrong though.

Well, I'm still gonna support our team and our players... fuck this coach, fuck the AD, and fuck the people who won't fire them right now. waste of money.

But I don't want to be depressed all season, so I'm gonna have some fun and go all in for the flyin richrods..

I agree. Funk has been completely flying under the radar with all the attention on Brandon and Hoke. That's probably a relief for him, but I'd expect the light to be directed his way if the poor performances continue and now that Brandon isn't stepping down or going to fire Hoke until the end of the season.

I don't think he'll be around then.  It's fine that he's going to wait until then to make his evaluations, but he'll be making them from the chair of his living room while watching ESPN.  Michigan will have a new AD by that point.

I hope I'm just pessimistic, but his ridiculous contract, coupled with new president and regents who seem reluctant to take decisive action, the hope that the 24-hour news cycle will eventually forget these problems, and that people who couldn't previously get tickets and don't care about Brandon and just want to treat their family to a Michigan game will make up for some of the lost attendance, make his dismissal not quite the certainty it should be.

I agree that DB should go sooner rather than later. However, what makes anyone think it will happen sooner? Just a feeling, but the prez and the reagents have given me no inclination that that will happen. Sigh......

Not sure how else to word it.  It was from yesterday's game of Arizona Vs. Oregon.  You know the ticker that runs at the bottom showing scores and the like?  it said NCAAF:  Dave Brandon has been quoted in saying that he prefers to wait till after the season to evaluate coaching staff.  So it was either quoted last night or early this morning on ESPNU.  It did not give a source at the bottom on the ticker.  My source is that I saw it on ESPNU. Don't know what else to tell ya.

All you need to look at are Ws and Ls.

That's it.

Hoke's Ws have decreased every year he's been here so far. And this year, there's gonna be a HUGE dropoff.

Isn't it supposed to work the other way around?

There's your evaluation. Done.

...and Hoke would/will be gone.

This isn't an excuse to keep Hoke, it's just an excuse to keep Hoke for the season. It's the kiss of death from an administrator and only buys you time to search for candidates and avoids a shit storm of even more negative media attention if you fire your coach midseason.

Then again, just last year Kiffin was told this...then USC got blasted 2-3 more times and Kiffin never even made it back to campus from the airport.

So you never know.

But this means nothing. The bigger question is what I alluded to in the header of this post...it's what he WOULD do. I don't think he gets the chance...because I think he's fired just before Hoke is fired.

This is pretty consistent with how Brandon evaluated RR. We all remember "the process". Given that Michigan won't make a bowl, at least the process should be completed in November. Depressing.

It's about what Dave Brandon would say if he was getting canned.

I went back and read Schlissel's e-mail and the article about his comments to the alumni association, and unless I missed it, I don't see any explicit support for Dave Brandon.

Obviously I can't say "Dave Brandon is gone" from this, but neither do I see this as anything that lowers the probability.

If this team undergoes and miraculous turnaround to win or very strongly compete for the B1G title, I'd support keeping Hoke.  (Good luck w/ that, Brady.)  And IME, the key decision will be the hiring of the new coach, and that should happen under the (hopefully) new AD.

Well the season should end Thanksgiving weekend.  We will be ineligible for a bowl game by mid November. Hoke will be gone by Dec. 6.   Plenty of time to find a new coach.

Well our season is pretty much toast, so from this point forward, find your favorite five candidates for the head coaching job and cheer for the other team each week in the hopes that it will make that guy less sexy at his current team.  From this point forward, my favorite teams will be whoever plays:

1.  The 49ers

2.  Okie State

3.  BYU

4.  Stanford

5.  Utah

This has already been "posted:" sorta.  It's exactly what David Brandon said when he was getting ready to screw Rich Rod.  David Brandon thinks he is going to sacrifice Brady Hoke at the end of the season and keep his job.

What''s really funny is that Schlssel is saying amost the same thing in his form letter about Brandon and Hoke, but Brandon thinks he has everything under control.
