Dante Moore Visiting ORE

Listening to Sam Webb this morning sure sounds like Moore is headed to Eugene to play for the Ducks.

The thing about crystal balls is that they shatter so easily. Ouch ouch. Rather funny theater, actually. The only real deals are consummated with pen on dotted line, anyway. Until that happens, we just have BPONE, with a theme song "Gloom, despair, and agony on me." It's from "HeeHaw." Yee Haww

We really botched this by missing Moore and Carr if this turns out to be true.  We should have all this momentum after last season and we just aren't capitalizing on it.   I still think we will have a nice class but we need to get with the times if we want to keep up.

I honestly find the Carr thing the most forgiveable.  I think he wanted to do his own thing and that is his choice.  It appears NIL could sway Moore and some other kids and we just don't want to do it the way everyone else is doing it.  We have a good staff and scheme and are coming off a great season, so let's do what is necessary to get to the next level.  It just seems that we are content to handcuff ourselves.

Your thought on CJ is correct.  CJ, his parents, and Lloyd have all said in interviews that CJ has always wanted to "leave home" to play.  CJ isn't anti Michigan.  It has nothing to do with Harbaugh, Lloyd, NIL, or any other reason.  He's just one of those kids that wants to get away and do his own thing.  It's unfortunate for Michigan but it's not a knock on Michigan.  It's is frustrating to continue to hear some speculate that somehow Michigan screwed up and drove CJ away from Ann Arbor.

i wish i could neg you a million times. thats how bad this post is.

first of all, toledo is a state college and is way closer to michigan than SB so you're wrong there.

secondly, ND isn't a state college, it's private, so you're actually doubly wrong

third, as someone who has lived in both SB and AA, SB is definitely "away" ... very different town/feel compared to AA. more meth too. SB is 10x shittier but the campus is excellent as is the education/alumni connections.

fourth, the kid was brought up in a devout catholic family OF COURSE he wants to go to ND.

fifth, wtf is wrong with you people? you act like michigan somehow messed up his recruitment. carr was never going to michigan. he never wanted to go to michigan. he literally said in an interview "i never wanted to play at home." there was literally nothing michigan could have done to get carr to play at michigan. ND was his dream school. catholic, far enough away from home where he can make his own name, close enough to still be around family on holidays ... i swear you guys will make up stories in your head, then get mad at michigan coaches/recruiting etc. about the things you made up.

lol first of all, to semantically claim Toledo is closer as if Toledo is in the running for elite quarterback is a hilarious argument to make.

Secondly, where exactly in my post did I claim ND is state college, and what relevance would that have anyways?

Third, congrats on your opinion.

Fourth, are you claiming religion is now the main reason for his choice?

Fifth, it's fine he went where he wants to go, and that doesn't mean Michigan screwed up. I never claimed Michigan did anything wrong. But claiming you want to get away (I looked up that quote and I think it's getting taken slightly out of context, or at least exaggerated by many here) then not choosing a school even three hours away is funny to me.

Some of you guys need to take a walk.

No. It’s our NIL game. It’s weak.  Harbaugh’s flirtation with the NFL has little to do with this, and a strong NIL game would easily overcome any doubts on Harbaugh.

Oregon has one of the best NIL programs, and they are about to pull the best QB out of Michigan in 20 years.

It’s honestly mind blowing that the AD as ”leaders and best”, can absolutely F up a great season and completely torpedo our recruiting efforts.

Once again your last comment is spot on.  We all know that Michigan HS football players are not as highly rated as many areas of the country, but we have not one but two QBs who are 5-stars that live less than 45 minutes away and we somehow happily explain away why we missed on BOTH - CJ wanted to leave here and be his own man, and Moore really liked Gattis.  BS, our NIL game is not on par!

If we had a proper NIL, CJ's could have been crazy because of this last name alone!

can we just stop with this nonsense about carr?

he said he never wanted to play at UM. as a freshman he knew he wanted to NOT play at UM. cj himself stated this publicly.

it wasn't nil, harbaugh, the vikings, weiss, the recruiting coordinator ..... he made this decision before all that even happened.

moore, on the other hand, seems to kinda want to play at michigan but the allure of big nike dollars may be too much. but unless you want michigan to break state laws there's not much anyone can do about that

State laws that are hopelessly ambiguous, that no one cares about and not law enforcement official would ever enforce.   Sure let’s follow those and cut ourselves off at the knees.  Oh by the way It is pretty obvious the other major school in this state is not following said rule.

I'm not sure this is an AD issue, necessarily.  They have a massive donor willing to throw money at guys.  Our donors could do that.  They haven't.  We don't have a Phil Knight.

Could the AD do more?  Sure.  Do they need to? No.  The money has to come from somewhere outside of the AD regardless.  The AD isn't preventing the money from flowing.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t the AD control and promote the form/structure of the NIL program? If so, then the AD needs to do more.

We have plenty of money that wants to come in, but it seems that the AD is preventing it from happening

(the last clause is pure speculation on my part)

Changing OCs again hurt as much as Harbaugh flirting with the NFL, of course the 2 things are linked.  Moore really liked Gattis and word was he was wary of Weiss, now I know he got to know Weiss better, but it seemed like Gattis was Moore's guy here.

And he was a silent commit to ND, then he wasn't.  Then LSU and Miami were the leaders, now it's Oregon.  Think he's looking for the best NIL deal at this point, good for him, but Michigan was never going to pay him to sign here.

Now where do we go? There only 4 other of the top 30 QBs not committed and I don't know that we're in on any of them.  No QB this class?

Considering Oregon changed their entire staff, including hiring a first-time DC as HC, clearly coaching experience is not that big of a factor. Even with an NFL flirtation, Michigan's coaching staff clearly wins the experience factor. If you're willing to bet your future on Kenny Dillingham, more power to you. NIL has got to be a huge factor.

It’s not nil, it’s Harbaughs’ 1970’s offense. He actually signed a fullback, lol If you are a QB looking to make to the NFL as a QB your path will be much easier when you are throwing 400 times a season vs 200 in a power I offense. Same reason Harbaugh has a hard time recruiting wr’s.

Apparently Wiltfong put in a crystal ball for him to Oregon yesterday.  It's a 6 so not definitive but this visit was unexpected.

I guess we'll see.  I do think guys committing at this point can and will change their minds, but still annoying that UM struck out on him and Carr (though I do get Carr wanting to deal with the UM history).

This one has been pretty simple for months.

Dante doesn’t want to go to Michigan.

His father doesn’t want him to go to ND.

His father wants NIL. Dante doesn’t care.

But his father runs things, so he is pushing Dante to do what he tells him.

And yet and still it's up to a teenager to make up his mind.  Who would want a young man who's heart is somewhere else to stay and play in-state.  Let alone at Michigan.  All we can do is offer and show that we want him. The rest is His-story.  We will always have talent.  We recruited and won the sweepstakes for Jermaine Gonzales.  I witnessed that tragedy with my own eyes.  We have history.

I have absolutely no problems with Dante not wanting to play at Michigan. What is worrisome is the staff misreading the situation so badly that we now have no options and didn't take a good QB last year. Which means we will almost certainly have to play the transfer QB wheel of fortune again sometime in the next two years.

This staff is very worrying on the recruiting front right now. Anyone who doesn't think so just has their head in the sand.

I like to be optimistic at times. Lets say we are good at football again this year with JJ as the starting QB. With all the offensive weapons and maybe a not elite D we actually put up some real good numbers offensively. Do something like go 11-1, lose a close game at osu, win a bcs bowl. Overall successful season, still building towards things. But because he got replaced by JJ cade is in the transfer portal after the season and JJ gets a first round grade and goes to the NFL. We could easily need a QB as soon as next year. Even in an optimistic situation where we are good next year and JJ or Cade is the QB the year after AND we get Jadyn Davis your 2024 QB situation would still be completely reliant upon a true freshman being good out of the gate. Literally the best case scenario is still an incredibly risky situation.

drjaws

June 24th, 2022 at 2:13 PM ^

the best case scenario is cade and jj stick around for 2-3 years and by then we have another QB or two in the wings. just because you're pearl clutching doesn't mean we, or more importantly the michigan coaches, should be as well.

i mean, let's be real. you know about as much of what is going on in schembechler hall as my dog. in fact, none of of know shit really. it's all opinion at this point.

So your pessimistic scenario also includes the NFL changing the requirement of 3 yrs removed from HS so JJ can go a year early?  He is a rising soph and not eligible until 2024 for the draft.  Pessimistic and unrealistic.

It could well be the case that our 2024 QB recruit is almost the starter on day 1 if JJ leaves after 3.  That’s the pessimistic scenario.
