Perhaps they should reconsider the menu. Chinese food?
next july: "Chinese Takeout at the Big House"
Is it wrong of me to hope that Isaac has to redshirt and next year we add a 21 year-old 5-star with two years of practice time and three years of eligibility remaining?
Plus, Mike Weber.
Scenario at this stage and a pretty good deal for Mikey Weber to come into the class as the lone RB recruit. He would have two years with Issac and two years as the elder statesmen at a time our OL was becoming all Seniors and Juniors if he RS.
stopping by though
Seems people like focusing on the negative and ignoring anything positive:
One bit of good news for Michigan as far as this weekend is concerned, though, centers around the state's top prospect -- four-star wide receiver/defensive back Brian Cole (Saginaw Heritage).
Per 247sports.com, Cole will be visiting Michigan on Friday along with four-star quarterback pledge Alex Malzone -- who plans on showing Cole around campus and helping him get to know the finer points of the program.
The owner of my old arena team (former NFL player) is helping train Cole and Cole was decked out in Michigan gear in the pictures he posted online if that is worth anything...
You played for the Sting? Stu isn't trying to push him to Purdue, is he?
Yeah I played for a season with the Sting under Stu. It was a pretty good way to "retire" from organized football. But yes, in the picture I saw Cole had a Michigan shirt and Michigan shorts on. From what I have heard around town it is down to OSU and Michigan which I don't think is that big of a surprise.
I think it would be considered a surprise that michigan state is out of it.
Of the 558 words in the English langauge that revolve around emotion 62% of them are negative. In a review of literature of more than 200 articles regarding human behavior and perception one general principle was found..."Bad is stronger than good." When people are shown photos of bad and good events, people view the bad longer. People tend to spend closer attention to bad stuff, reflect on it more, and remember it longer across many domains in life. Unfortunately it is human to pay more attention to the bad than the good in about anything in life.
You missed a comma in your post. An otherwise good post got totally ruined by the lack of that one little punctuation mark. Sorry man, but I just can't let it go.
That's great news. QB and WR. Thx. I needed that. (would not mind seeing Cole at DB)
All will be good and the rest will be gravy
He was kinda gone when he de-pledged. Pretty rare for a guy to re-commit when the main recruiter was fired.
I see you, 1928! How many accounts are you up to now?
Hopefully landing Cole or Weber will ease the pain of others not making it.
You forgot the AND. Not OR, AND. Thanks.
it. He had a conflict with his high school team's practice schedule which has been known for a while so this isn't really a surprise.
He's not attending Ohio State's Friday Night Lights either.
I want to be an uninformed pessimist.
No, no, can't be, he simply hates us because we suck, amirite?.
You've always been our #1 guy
Except in the immediate aftermath of Damien Harris' commitment. He was not our #1 guy then.
According to the interwebs, Harris isn't going because of his High School team camp... the kid has a good reason... his current team.
Well fuck him if he's putting another school above Michigan!
Did you miss the /s!?
just putting "/s" at the end of a stupid comment shouldn't excuse it. It wasn't sarcastic, it was just stupid. Yeah, there are idiots out there that make ridiculous comments, but we don't need to be reminded of that with a "/s" comment.
Sarcastic or not, this d-bag wrote that a kid and recruit should go f$&@ himself. I thought we learned our lesson about posting personal things about recruits. If a mod see this, you are likely gonzo, bro.
So the kid is admirably fulfilling his commitment to his current program instead of jumping to fun recruiting events in Columbus and Ann Arbor, but my comment wasn't sarcastic? Please explain that to me.
pretty sure you don't get to determine if a person was being sarcastic or not, I don't think it works that way
You missed the sarcasm.
This kid has every right to go where he wants. Don't give us a bad name. He is 17 years old. Michigan needs to win football games. These recruits owe us zero.
You serious, Clark?
That's not a good reason at all. If that's true he knew a long time ago that he wouldn't be able to make it. His coach didn't schedule this practice yesterday.
You're right. He probably did it Saturday.
Oh Bob Saget
Also not going to Ohio State's thing either, so probably more of a can't make it thing than a doesn't want to make it thing.
I will be surprised if Kentucky is even in his top 5
For what it's worth, the 11W guys seem to be more worried about UK than UM. Jeremy Birmingham said that if UK wins 7 or more this year (admittedly, not likely), then Harris likely goes there.
Doesn't look good for us right now.
Why? Because by then it will be obvious that we have 2 All-American caliber running backs returning to the team next year?
Harris is going to OSU....and that's just gross.
With Weber visiting USC on the 23rd, it's been reported that he might not be able to attend the BBQ.
I agree he seems to be trending that way right now, but at the same time he's not deciding until December. A good season on the field and/or a win in Columbus could go a long way in changing that perception IMO. This news is not good, but it ain't over yet either.
Hopefully this ends well.
Not necessarily shocking. Moving along.
Perhaps chicken wings from Meijer's isn't the best choice after all.
Too bad Delong's ain't around anymore.
The fireworks must have been cancelled at the BBQ as well...the recruits are noticing /s
they will come. Hope Beilein is at all practices
Well thank God Brady Hoke is still a great recruiter, right?
Things could be worse, Ivy...for example, you could have a 100 points and start your own threads about the end of all things Michigan football. Dammit, now i'm all itchy.
Damien Harris not attending Michigan
Chobani isn't gaining us street cred with recruits?
I was curious since they started sponsoring Michigan and I heard good reviews on here.....I'm hooked! I've had 3 in the last 24 hours.
I mean this with the most respect, you're such a sheeple and I love it.
Don't you endorse a competing brand of yogurt - Dannon Oikos?
Oikos is honestly my favorite Greek yogurt. I like how sweet it is. I'm not saying that because they are paying me to, I say it because I mean it.
Eat Oikos, there is a slim** chance you will be as good looking as I am if you do...
**its not possible to be as good looking as me.
Got enough Michigan in your room? Are you 12 years old?
Going on 13...
That's the best you got? Come on man, I've been dealing with this my entire life.
Come up with something better. I'm sure you can being the witty guy you are.
The last one is the page on me my yearbook class wrote in our yearbooks my senior year because I am crazy.
Here's your ammo. Ready....set....go
I was holding back, trying not to be mean. Get girls, or you will regret how you chose to spend all of your waking youthful hours... Serious. Girls. They're nice, and soft and stuff.
I've already gotten dates from Tinder. Three of em. And I'm not that good looking.
Congrats, though I have no idea what Tinder is... I assume a dating site?
WD you and I CLEARLY have the most reality-appropriate sceen names on the board.
Don't forget me.
when he changes his MGoUsername to "Chobani Devotee" or "Tinder Devotee"?
As extreme as his devotion is, eventually will WD discover something new (and maybe he already has?) to go gaga over? Just in the last 2 days he's gone overboard with Chobani (3 in one day!) and Tinder (3 dates already!) . The obsessive-compulsiveness of WD is bound to eventually swing full-bore in a different direction.
As for growing old, nothing that can be done about that. So yeah, reality-appropriate. ;-)
the one we want wants us in return. Based on what I read tonight, Weber is going to try really hard - maybe alter his itenerary to get back in time to stop in to the BBQ anyway. At this point, he looks the most promising as to mutual interest, and also a damn fine RB.
look at the closet doors, just a blank white.
in the hunt. There is along way. If we can block up front and win 9 - 10 games we will be right there.
Michigan was his first love and I don't think we are out of it with his folks liking the program & education.
Now get yo butts off the ledge and don't jump.
are still w/ our 1st love?
Bad news but this ship probably sailed a long time ago, so not really a big deal. Sounds like we're in pretty good shape with Weber. A top 200 guy isn't a terrible consolation prize.
By a lot of reasonings here. If Michigan is out, then Ohio is out as well since he isn't attending their event. Guess he is Kentucky bound
We've known for a while he's going to be a Buckeye. Not sure what you're trying to do with that comment.
I didn't want him talking up Ohio State to our recruits anyhow.
I didn't expect him to recommit anyway - clearly Al Borges was a key reason he was considering the school - and that's fine. Wish him the best wherever he lands, but the idea that Michigan is screwed without him ignores the reality that this team has three top backs entering their second years, and Isaac is probably going to be pushed back another year.
Land those 2 and I'm happy. KLS too. Anybody else is gravy. Win games and that gravy is probably the really yummy kind my momma makes.
I'd put Roseboro as a strong lean. Weber as leaning more than a month ago. Cole is a mystery.
Too bad for him.
I'm way less likely to freak out given that Ty Isaac will make his debut next season - as a large, fast, powerful man three years removed from high school.
However, I'm still freaking out.
I will say that I am not terribly perturbed by this development, but I will credit the comments attached to the MLive article for representing the weird elements of the fanbase certainly. There are strange people commenting on that article that seem to earnestly expect that there should be zero attrition in a class that is essentially theoretical. Very strange people indeed.
Glad to see some positive news on my first day back on mgoblog in a while. AWESOME:))))
Why is it bad news that he's deciding December 13th? If anything, it's good news since it gives us a chance to win football games as opposed to him deciding in the next 40 days.
Why do people say land x recruit and the rest is gravy? Was Dashawn Hand gravy last year? I sure would have liked a top 3 national recruit to shore up the DL along with a top 3 national recruit in Peppers.
Especially when we have been mediocre at best for the last decade. At this point I will take the solid recruiting classes Hoke and co are putting up so long as we start to see results on the field. It's just not realistic to expect a bunch of 5 stars to commit until we start to get it done on the field.
Who cares, wish the kid the best but hey when your not competitive stuff like this happends. Win some games and beat your rivals and you will win great recruits.
I know he's a 5 star and all that but I'm sorry I simply CANNOT get past the idea that he decommitted because Al Borges was fired. Yes I know he's close to Harris's HS Coach but Jesus man does the kid not own a television set?
It would be like if we lost a 5 star defensive player in 2011 class cuz Gerg got smoked.
He had a personal relationship with Borges. He committed after the team stumbled in 2012, 1 season removed from a BCS game, but with legit losses to multiple teams that finished in the top 5, plus Nebraska (QB injury) plus a tight one in a bowl (anyone's game). All explainable. The trajectory looked up. Aside from Bama we were competitive with everyone...you can explain away Bama. We won the cupcake games more convincingly and did pretty good in our wins to boot.
Then he watched this season play out and saw a team was in complete dysfunction at his position and the one his position relies on. (for related reasons) He watched 27 for 27, and -48. He was probably (like us) in shock at how bad his side of the ball looked for long stretches. He saw us struggle to put away bad teams like Akron and UConn. He saw us not look competitive vs MSU. He saw us - with a month to prepare - look like shiat versus an equitable KSU team. Yes OSU but aside from Minnesota there was not a convincing UM win in 2 months....and the losses piled up in every fashion. Then Campbell and whoever else (I already forgot) decommitted. I am sure at that point there had to be at least SOME doubt in his mind on what the hell was going on with the team. Then you throw Borges on top of it and it makes sense.
Look results matter to most recruits. It just does no matter what they say about education, tradition, family atmosphere etc. If this team was 10-3 last year (stomping Akron and making UConn look like an afterthought like any good team wouldI think Hand, Harris, and most likely McDowell (who was reported to sway heavily to MSU in November) would probably be Wolverines or future ones. Thankfully the brand is so strong we are still recruiting very well relative to the 8th place finish we just pulled...in a bad conference. But it's not complicated to see why some kids are wavering - there is no guarantee the coach they are committing to will even be there. Yes you commit to the school but uncertainty combined with a pathetic season hurts. The 2011 momentum is gone as is the "fresh coaching face" momentum. Now the team needs to look like a top 10-12 program to make this type of stuff end.
Thanks for bringing us reason.
What we don't know is what Borges might have said to his HS coach after he got canned. If he painted a picture of dysfunction on the staff and bad-mouthed Hoke to boot, it would certainly carry some weight. Some here have doubted that Borges would do any such thing, but human nature says different, at least to me.
Borges always seemed a little bitter about absorbing blame for our failures on offense. I could see him badmouthing the program without explicitly saying Hoke is to blame. He seemed to really want to be appreciated for his intelligence, which he clearly was not.
Unless Al wanted to guarantee he'd be coaching at the Div III or h.s. level for the remainder of his career, such action would be tantamount to career suicide. The only year he won here, he "no-brained" it for the season, using RR's offense. Or perhaps, I should reprase that and say that was the only year he used his brain because that was the correct thing to do. After that, he was useless as an OC. He might be o.k. in a system that is not rebuilding and is capable of exploring multiple offensive strategies, but no one will be any good anywhere until they perfect at least one way of putting the ball in the end zone. When that occurs, other ways just seem to follow because you have the d back on their heels. You can't teach five different schemes at the same time. Offense is built on a foundation and the additions are added one piece at a time, not by having everyone working on different projects at the same time.
Well said. I think that Borges's problem was that he vastly over-estimated the amount of information his players could digest, and underestimated the amount of practice that was needed to master a football concept. The guy was book-smart, but maybe not people-smart. I still like him, and wish him well, but I am glad he isn't responsible for rebuilding Michigan's offense.
I know some people here just love to be negative, but the fact that he's skipping out on visits to UM and Ohio because of his team camp does not make this a bad thing
Oh well, sucks but let's move on
I don't see this as too big of a deal. We have an opportunity to impress any of the other 50 recruits in attendance.
One recruit doesn't make a class, and through the years we have missed out on some great players, however running back is far from our most desperate need.
Make a class. But 4 recruits could make a class and we have now had 4 of our top prospects back out of the BBQ. Tate, Harris, McMillon, and potentially weber. That is not a good thing.
Sure, yeah. Let's impress one of the other 50 recruits that will never be a starter for a top 25 program. That makes me feel much better. There a only a small handful of uncommitted recruits coming now that can help this team in any way.
is that how you see our recruits for the Bar-B-Que? and even if one takes your pessimistic mood I can still counter that our connections with kids, coaches, and programs still matter...
With Green, Smith, and Isaac in the fold, we should be fine through the 2016 season. I'd love to land Weber, but as long as we get good RBs in 2016 and 2017 we'll be OK.
Not being able to make it is the same as not wanting to make it?
I'm still not getting it, I guess. I just don't see how they are the same.
But don't let me stop you guys from your negativity, carry on....
He knew for a while he wouldn't be able to make it. Why was he saying he was coming? This football camp he has to attend didn't come out of nowhere.
MOAR MEAT for Weber, please
...not so much anymore.
Sidenote...this far and no "I only care about guys who WANT to play for Michigan!" post.
I realize that he could still want to play for Michigan...so I ONLY CARE ABOUT GUYS WHO WANT BBQ AT MICHIGAN!
I think he will be interested again in UM if we win some games. If we lose 4 or more again, then I expect him to sign with a program that wins more. Hoke is recruiting good considering our record. If we were a top 10 team, then I think we would be a five star magnet!
...who actually played for Bo in the 70s and I discussed the concept of roster talent recently. There is undoubtedly more parity in college football talent-wise than in the 70s, but we both tend to agree that Michigan now has plenty of talented athletes to compete for the B1G championship moving forward. In the final analysis, we think winning is now more a function of coaching as it relates to conditioning, technique, game-by-game schemes and player motivation and not talent, per se.
We have a hard time buying the argument that we don't have the talent on the current roster.
Can we stop with all the Dantonio love around here? He went 7 - 6 in his 6th season with all of that great coaching and talent developing.
If you think Hoke and staff are not developing talent at no greater than minus 75% of Dantonio and staff, you are as nuts as your last statement woul indicate. No one plays for the NC year in and year out. What does year in and year out mean anyway?
There is no doubt not many DCs do as good as job as Narducci and his db coach, in particular. W/O the type of play on the back end you simply can't play attack defense on every down. However, if development includes attempting to rip an opponent's head off when he's in a defenseless position, lying on the ground, and he's not so much as suspended for the remainder of the quarter, let alone getting him out of the game entirely, than you can have such development. As I stated yesterday, certain coaches belong at certain schools. No matter who coaches here, you'll only see that type of play one time from that player and if he doesn't refrain in the future, not only will he be gone, but so too will the coach.
MSU had a great season last year, able to finish off their last two games whereas OSU couldn't, but if you want to suggest to me that MSU is a better program than OSU right now, then we will have room for debate.
B/c the thought behind it is correct. I agree that we could change his mind with a good season that I think is well within reach. That said, you lost me when you wrote "Hoke is recruiting good." My estimation of your intelligence dropped dramatically. Hoke is recruiting well, not good.
...that Hoke is recruiting very goodly.
Time to move on
Im more concerned with Weber maybe not attending than I am with Harris. Harris is not attending due to a prior commitment with his high school football team. Weber will be in Southern California on a recruiting trip. Which one of those events scares you more? I get that Harris is a decommitment and Michigan needs to get him on campus, but Weber now seems to be our #1 target at RB. Id much rather a recruit miss out on the BBQ at the Big House because he's with his high school football team as opposed to being on the beach in Cali with beautiful women everywhere. Obviously I dont blame the kid for taking a trip to USC. Who would? But as a Michigan fan, I just think Weber missing out would be more detrimental than Harris. Maybe I am just looking at it from a different perspective. Hopefully he can work it where he can go to USC and make it to the BBQ.
RB Mike Weber told me he's trying to get an earlier flight home from his USC visit to make it to Michigan's BBQ. He visits USC July 23-27.

.@ccrowder22 DE Darian Roseboro, RB Mike Weber, DE Jalen Bates is supposed to be. Checking on some others.
— Tom VanHaaren (@TomVH) July 22, 2014
Two big 2016 TE's will be at Michigan's BBQ this weekend. ESPN Jr. 300 Naseir Upshur and Luke Farrell. 2015 Tyrone Wheatley Jr will not be.
— Tom VanHaaren (@TomVH) July 22, 2014
I don't care any more, even if he goes Buckeye, as long as he doesn't become the next Barry Sanders.
But seriously, isn't amazing the impact Borges is having on the program even 8 months from his departure? If his head has not been up his ass and had the offense performed well last year, he still has a job and guys like Harris are still Blue.
This is an absolutely crucial year for this program. If Hoke tanks this year then we stare at another 4-5 years of horrid transition.
If there is a coaching change after this season, I think the next coach will do well immediately.
This will then be widely interpreted as "He sure gets a lot more out of those kids than Hoke did!" rather than as a credit to Hoke & Co.'s roster re-build.
No, I wouldn't call it “amazing.” More accurately, it's just “one guy.” One very highly-rated HS running back who had a close relationship with Borges backed out of his verbal because Al got fired, and now looks as if he will end up elsewhere. Well, that's disappointing, but them's the breaks. And it's just “one guy.” Now, if it were half a dozen players who bailed out of Ann Arbor because Big Al was gone, I'd be amazed. But it's not. And Borges' firing helped re-ignite the recruitment of Mike Weber, and didn't keep Ty Isaac from transferring. So his firing is having having an effect – it's just not a completely negative one.
And as far as the comment about Al's head and his ass, I'm in complete agreement.
Disappointing, but I can appreciate his committment to his high school team. Even if he goes elsewhere (and I think he will), getting Weber - and having Ty Isaac eligible in 2015 - will take away any sting of missing on Harris. Personally, I'm bothered more by the fact that McMillon will also miss the BBQ.
as I am with Harris the top recruit. That is, I like our RBs through 2016 but losing a top recruit is never good. If our OL shapes up our current crop will look good, and if they don't Harris is unlikely to make that much difference.
Hope he ends up at the right place for him.
Get him some spaghetti then
Up at O$U tthat would explain much. Seems like he is misinformed when, in fact, he really ccommitted to a "coach" vs. Michigan. So be it. You cannot tell be Ohio is class or Meyer but vertsin families love wins vs. Integrity.
