CT coach Wilcher is NOT happy with Meyer, Ohio State

Submitted by Auerbach on

"I think Urban Meyer will have to step his game up; we're going to have to talk," Cass Tech football coach Thomas Wilcher told Detroit Sports 105.1 on Friday. "He has come to my school and got the No. 1 athlete two years in a row.

"You cannot come over here, come up to the north and walk out of here with your pockets full and not give us respect.

"That's not gonna happen again, I can tell you that right now."

Wilcher told 105.1 he has talked to Weber several times, and that Weber is not happy at all.

Wilcher was asked by 105.1 host Matt Dery if Weber would be sticking with Ohio State, and he wouldn't say that.

He said Weber is talking things over with his family and figuring out what his options our [sic].

I'm not gone lie, that's a pretty crumby thing to say about a 17-year-old from the inner-city who very clearly grew up around people who speak slang and use "gone" in place of "going to."

That's kinda BS though, man. Can you really blame someone like Ryan Mallet, who committed to Lloyd Carr, for thinking that his skill set wasn't really suited for the QB option, and then transfering to a school that runs a pro-style system instead?

#1 - Because they know we want and need Weber

#2 - They would LOOOOOVE to stick it to OSU with a moral highground on this one

...but I don't see it working out like this.

I do know there is a 100% chance that Weber is at Michigan (Higdon or not) if he knew this before he signed. 100%.

That's the frustrating part.

Regardless, I feel like Meyer will calm him down and rerecruit him. He'll be a Buckeye because he does want to play next year and there isn't a road to Michigan that has him playing in Ann Arbor next season.

What I'd like to see happen is for Weber to publically ask OUT of his LOI so that he may "consider his options with all of the information on the table" (not so that he can come to Michigan).

I'd like to see what the public pressure does to Meyer. Make HIM make the decision on right and wrong.

Mike Weber, should simply ask him (publically)..."Will you please grant me a release from my LOI so I can weight my options?" and see what Meyer has to say. He says yes and he's kind-hearted and Weber goes to Michigan. He says no and the entire recruiting world in this country dumps on Meyer and he's the villian.

No disrespect to Mike, but if he gets released I hope he goes elsewhere.  I'm happy with Karan Hidgon and we should move forward with this fine young man and RB.  Next year we will recruit another RB or two.  We will be fine.

If Mike leaves OSU I hope he finds a nice landing place.

My hope is that the Cass Tech Coach rallies the other PSL Coaches and Urb never gets another city kid.

Bait and switch is illegal, but the NCAA lets it happen to 17 and 18 year old kids.

This obviously sucks for Mike Weber, but we have a running back, and he seems like the kind of guy who will embrace "the team, the team, the team." I'm excited about Karan Higdon.

We have our running back. If he was to get out of his LOI, I would consider taking him back if there was an apology and he set things right with Hoke and the recruits in this class. I will say I'm very disappointed that Michigan fans continue to tweet the kid. We should focus on welcoming the kids that are here versus tearing down the kids who didn't choose us.

Obviously he bleeds grey so why the worries on his part. I got the decision when Hoke was fired. He doesn't care about the school ... Meyer played him but he loves ohio. Live by your life decisions. Quit whining. Hey, we got a great back that cherishes Michigan. No one has it better than us.

and the 14 other new recruits.

But to me, the big story in this is the possibility that the Detroit area (esp CT) becomes much more difficult for OSU to recruit.  That would be a very good thing.

The below quote from Eleven Warriors sums it up best:

This kid is more to Meyer than just a stellar RB... He's a trophy of the upcoming "Meyer v Harbaugh" or the traditional "tOSU vs UM".

I think Mike Weber's recruitment was more about beating Harbaugh then getting Weber.  They were pretty excited yesterday and knew the importance of taking the top player from Michigan 2 years in a row.  It pissed me the hell off watching them celebrate their win.  Hope Wilcher tells Urban to get the fuck off his lawn next year.

That makes me sick. So f*cked up. How could they use that kid like that?  I really hope he bounces back from this sucky life lesson.  I still say, though, where were his parents in all of this?

Weber has buyer's remorse, and is making his situation worse by making a big deal out of this.

Michigan can't be screwing around with getting involved in this dispute for a lot of reasons, and if Weber is forced to sit a year, he's going to wind up a forgotten man as far as top schools are concerned.

He's stuck with OSU, and I wish him the best of luck. But we have a very good RB coming in, and I can't see Weber doing anything but getting on with it at OSU. The odd thing is that he hasn't helped himself as far as his new team's cohesion is concerned.

I completely agree.  When you are recruited you are signing on to play at a University with hopes that your head coach (not so much your position coach) sticks around.  It should be no surprise.  Besides, nobody was completely truthful.  Weber took a clandestine visit to UM the previous weekend, Harbaugh was flipping Higdon (unbeknownst to Weber), and Drayton was eyeing the NFL... so it's all part of the recruiting game.  Weber knew the rules.

If I were Weber and chose OSU over UM, I would suck up my insecurities and keep quiet as to not draw negative attention to myself by future teammates.  He will be on OSU's campus in the fall, of that I am fairly certain.  He should be thinking less about Drayton leaving and more about how to make the best of an uncertain situation.  Besides, will he be upset now that OSU hired Tony Alford?  They did build a relationship in ND's pursuit of Weber.  He should have waited to comment until all the chips had fell.

As for Wilcher's comments, I can understand how this frustrated him, but this was Mike's decision and it should be Mike speaking or choosing not to speak.  For all we know, Meyer smoothed things over in his conversation with Weber.

Lastly, I do not buy the Harbaugh/Wilcher conspiracy theorists.  Those conspiracy guys still believe WWE is real.

Seriously.  OSU didn't tell anyone the coach was leaving.  What would his parents have been able to do that Weber and his coach weren't able to do? OSU has more on the line if they piss off Wilcher, than they do if they piss off Weber's parents.

Besides, how do you know Weber's parents weren't involved?  That's a pretty shitty assumption to make.  Especially when Weber delayed his announcement to give his dad time to get there.
