While it's incredibly early, Michigan seems to be in the lead for rising sophomore PG Christian Anderson Jr. While there is not much film out there of him right now, he's apparently an elite shooter and had a great high school and AAU season given his age. He's still slight and growing at 5'8" 125, but we'll see how he continues to grow physically and as a player. His recruitment is still young, but we at least appear to have a lead for a kid who is looking to be one of the better players in the 2024 class

As a pediatric nurse, he looks to have quite a large window of growth remaining...but he may top at at 5'10" to 6 foot. Lots of variability here.

I just watched a long clip of him being run through a shooting drill...pretty phenomenal.  If he can shoot like this as a physically undeveloped 15 year old-OMG...where's the ceiling!!! The kid seldom misses-seldom even hits the rim...and we are talking 22 to 25 footers. Then when he steps out to the near 30 foot range and just keeps draining them-a spectacular demonstration. When you can knock down 30 footers at a 75% clip...you can shoot the rock-uncontested or not.

Are there clips of the rest of his game-didn't really see any???

How can you tell what height he will be?    He could grow 8 inches by next year or not grow an inch.  Then when he arrives at college hit a growth spurt.  I had a cousin who was 5 foot 3 inches and he grew 9 inches in a year.   Never grew again but from his junior year to the summer of graduation he grew those 9 inches.  I am not trying to be rude but can you really tell by just looking at him.   The Mayo clinic says add the mothers height plus Dad's height together add 5 inches and divide by 2.  That will be his height.     Now they say this is just a estimate but it lists his dad as 6 foot 4, now we need his mom's height.

FWIW, 5'8 is a generous listing for Anderson right now. Realistically, he's probably in the 5'6-5'7 range with shoes on right now. Tons of time to grow though.

Then if mom is 5'6"ish or taller he will likely get as tall as his dad. If his mother is quite short then the variability can be quite significant. That, according to my wife, is the general "rule of thumb". The way he is "put together"...his long bones-tib/fib and femur look pretty growthy...and he has the upper body proportion to get as tall as his dad.

Matt, have you seen him play much? How's the rest of his game???

I have yet to see him play live. Really not much to evaluate from a kid playing 15u on the poorest shoe circuit (Under Armour).

The only things that I can say with intelligence is that Anderson clearly has range that manifests in game scenarios versus lower level competition and is very undersized at the moment.

A LOT can change in either direction over the next year as the kid potentially grows, continues to develop his game and squares off against better competition.

The formula for predicting height is Dad's height + Mom's height + 5 inches / 2 for boys and minus 5 inches for girls.

76 (6'4") + 66 (5'6") +5" / 2 = 6'1 1/2"    Let's hope his mom is 5'7 1/2" so he can be the perfect 6'2".

Other rule of thumb is measure a kid when they are 2 years old and double that height.  I had a buddy in junior high whose parents did that and he said he was going to be 6'2".  His parents were 5'6" and 5'1" so I thought he was full of it.   I moved and ran into him 10-12 years later.  He was 6'2"

We'll have a stub when he drops today but not going to bother with a Hello this year. I don't think a 2024 commitment means anything right now.

Yeah, i don't understand the commit 2.5 years in advance thing.  Really it just means we lead.  What if he doesn't grow?  Does not develop?  Then we still take him?  No, we wouldn't.

And the flip side - there is a ton of time for him to decommit.

Update: Anderson is planning on committing today at 4:30pm. Looks like we're going to have our first 2024 commit before we get a 2023 commit

I’ve never really understood the benefit to these types of commitments to either side.  Maybe an elite quarterback who can help pull a large class together but in bball it really doesn’t make sense.

I'm curious what you believe the downside is to this? The ultimate goal in the game of basketball is to score the ball-and this young man can do it in spades. And furthermore, he can do it in a way that demands special attention from a defense. A player that can alter a defense is invaluable-especially if it presents in a Jerry West, Seth Curry or Duncan Robinson manner. The skill of this young player is off-the-charts unique and invaluable...and will open up the floor for his teammates. Juwan Howard is a very clever coach-he knows how to employ/exploit individual gifts to the benefit of the greater good. the upside is to good to pass on.
