Crystal Ball Movement for Jarrett Patterson to Michigan
December 22nd, 2017 at 11:12 AM ^
Ryan Hayes was announced on early signing day as a tight end. So the class currently only has 1 offensive tackle, Patterson would be the 2nd. Petit-Frere would be the third, if he were to also commit. I'm not as sold on Michigan as the leader for him.

going to be scared off by the other OTs in our class. By the same token, there's no way the staff is going to turn down the #1 OT, who's been at the top of their board for a long time.
You always leave a little room for elite players regardless of position.

As others have noted, I think they need to close with at least two of Friday, Reese, Patterson and Petit-Frere.
Friday is a must, in my own opinion, now that UM is out of Rick Sandidge's top three. I don't know who the "plan B" guy is at DT.

I'm no scout but his HUDL video looks pretty good but not amazing. Looks like he played quite a bit of DE on his HS team.

Pretty much nobody sees us getting petit-frere, it would be awesome but a big shock. Get Patterson and Friday and keep Reese and this class lands at fine.

He hasn't said much so there is a lot of mystery, but is Sam Webb a nobody?. He feels pretty good about Michigan's chances
December 22nd, 2017 at 11:40 AM ^
Sam Webb tends to land on the more optimistic side. He has good Michigan information but its also just Michigan information. The national recruiting guys get info from multiple sources, its why they have higher percentages than ace for example. Look at Isiah Wilson last year, the staff was confident so Sam was confident but the national guys knew he had flipped without telling the Michigan staff.
The national recruiting guys are saying ND and southeastern schools, until that tone changes I'm going to assume Michigan is a player but significantly behind the leaders.
December 22nd, 2017 at 12:32 PM ^
Sam believed M had a good chance, but he didn't put in a gut feeling unlike the other recruits during Commitmas last year. That was a sign he wasn't completely confident.
December 22nd, 2017 at 5:07 PM ^
if the staff is telling him that they're confident about landing a kid, he's not going to publicly contradict them.
There are times when Sam says the staff is confident, but he's hedging by saying it's 51-49 or something like that. It doesn't take much reading between the lines to realize he knows something more.
He talks to the national and regional writers for Scout and now 247.

I think NPF and Patterson would be our starting Tackles in 2 years. I think Patterson is underrated among 2018 OTs, very solid prospect.
December 22nd, 2017 at 4:13 PM ^
Sure he can play tackle but he can utterly dominant at G.
Also, Hudson will be one of tackles. Might even start at LT in 2018.
December 22nd, 2017 at 5:17 PM ^
I know that has something to do with regional responsibilities, but he only talked about meeting with Drevno and Harbaugh after his official visit. No mention of Frey. He also approved of our football facilities being right next to campus.

Why would Watson not come back? He was a very solid 3rd corner.

Onwenu, Bredeson, Vastardis, Spanellis, Runyan, Paea, Honingford, Filiaga(was recruited at tackle, most think hes a guard), and Rumler for 2019.
We're alright at Guard.

Spanellis and Bredeson were considered tackle prospects too. If you go by the recruiting services, you could believe we've only recruited two interior linemen since 2013. Obviously,OT prospects often move inside. Sometimes that's the plan in recruiting, sometimes that's just how things work out.

Ruiz, Onwenu, Bredeson all theoritically have multiple years left. The staff clames to like the walk Vastardis, a lot of scouts didn't think Filiaga had the foot speed to cut it outside as a tackle and the mgodepth chart already has Honingford and Spanellis as guards. I think we are doing ok.

i also think his tape looks promising - not a superstar but patterson would be a real solid pickup. looks like a tough kid with potential and some versatility.
they had to address serious OT issues which mightve skewed the rosters appearance a bit - they havent added a ton of obvious interior OL other than ruiz over past 2 classes but they already have onwenu and bredeson and it looks like spanellis and few others (runyan, etc) should also compete there.
typically OT prospects can more easily shift inside to OG / OC while its often tougher and less likely for projected interior OL to slide outside - they may not be more traditional 330 lb massive OGs but its doable.
youre right in that OL composition isnt perfect but they appear to be moving in right direction. and i like the value seemingly being placed on athletic guys with quick feet vs simply searching for massive maulers

December 22nd, 2017 at 12:52 PM ^
can probably play anywhere on the OL
Rumler in 2019 is a C or G
2017 guys like Hall, Filiaga and Ruiz are all inside OL
inside is not the concern at all

Any chance Patterson signs his LOI today? If I remember correctly, today is the last early signing day.

This is literally a thread about Jarret Patterson. Its in the title and everything. This is amazing.

I'm starting to think he may be Matt Mann.

Back to Barrett: James Graham just flipped fro Virginia Tech to Georgia Tech. He's a protypical option QB. I wonder if that changes things for Barrett vis-a-vis Georgia Tech.
December 22nd, 2017 at 12:49 PM ^
Barrett is an intriguing prospect. I hope we end up with him if there's room after we get our position of need guys like Friday and Patterson.
December 22nd, 2017 at 12:46 PM ^
On the recruiting fron, just saw one of the 19 Belleville kids just committed to msu. Such a weird story around that class but given the talent in that system seems like a really bad program to have a bad relationship with.
