Crowd sourcing: How Harbaugh should accept trophy from Petitti

Submitted by 805wolverine on November 28th, 2023 at 11:23 AM

I've seen some scattered ideas about what Harbaugh should do when accepting the trophy from Petitti this Saturday, but haven't seen a thread on it.

Of course there have been a lot of suggestions that Harbaugh should essentially give him a middle finger, which I understand, but I prefer a slightly more magnanimous approach:

(Putting his arm around an obviously uncomfortable Petitti) "Thank you commissioner.  We know we're not the team you wanted to be handing this trophy to, but we'd like to thank you for being a big part of our success these past few weeks. I won't say we couldn't have done it without you, because we still would have, but we appreciate a little more fuel to the fire. I'd like to personally invite you to come to Ann Arbor and be there when we formally add our Big Ten record 45th conference championship trophy to Schembechler Hall."

Other ideas for Coach Harbaugh?

A simplified version of the OP’s statement would be beautiful…

A simple and subtle, “we couldn’t have done it without you, Tony” followed by an overly firm handshake and quick crazy eye’d stare.

Fair enough.

But have you seen any indication from Iowa - even when not shorthanded (McNamara, All, DeJean, etc.) - that they can play a competitive game with (much less beat) a team not from the MAC or B1G West?

Their offense will be fortunate to score 10 points. They'll be fortunate to run a play inside the Michigan 30. Their punter will be their MVP and need an ice bath after the game.

I don't like to talk shit before games, but this game is not likely to be competitive.

Iowa sucks as much as any 10-2 team can.  They know it, we know it, the world knows it.  Proclamations of victory or defeat beforehand have no outcome on the actual game.

All that being said, it still feels wrong and seems like an unnecessary temptation of fate to do it.

Buckeye and Sparty slappies on Xitter are still desperately hoping that the BIG or the NCAA will not allow Michigan to play in the conference championship game and/or in the CFB playoffs.

He should just accept it like he would under any normal circumstances.  And i am sure that is what he will do.  Everyone knows how Petitti and Harbaugh feel about it already - nothing needs to be said, and saying anything would only distract from the accomplishment.

First, just win the f-ing game, It's not a foregone conclusion.

Santa accepts it and says "This one's for Jim."

Edit Actually, maybe save that for if the season ends with a win.

He shouldn't say anything.  Just stand as humanly close to Petiiti as possible, while staring him right in the eyes while he speaks.

Only step back when the pee runs down Petitti's leg.

I'm sure Coach Harbaugh will be gracious, but the Maize and Blue faithful should boo Petitti loudly.  For intructions see how the New England Patriots fans treated Roger Goodell after Super Bowl LI.

It’s time to mend relationships.  Extend an olive branch to Tony and give him what he wanted.  Jimmy should paint a beard on his face with black shoe polish, accept the trophy, and then say “where the fuck is Lou Holtz?”  Then he can jump around like a penguin on PCP.

This is dumb. It's not about Petitti. Harbaugh should just take the trophy and celebrate the team (the team, the team). If he says anything, it should just be a general reference to the adversity the team has gone through this year and how glad he is to be back on the sideline.

I said it back before PSU game.  Win out the season, crush the West division dwarf, and then have the team make the trophy presentation irrelevant by hoisting Harbaugh on their shoulders and march off to the locker room singing the Victors to celebrate together leaving the Big Ten dweebs looking ridiculous on the Dais with no one to present to.

Maybe have Santa go get the trophy later and comment how Michigan, Schembechler, Harbaugh, and Ufer never forget the impugning of our institution by an organization that couldn't find integrity in the dictionary if you spotted them the I N T E and G

Bring Ferentz up on stage and have Kirk make a speech. His speech will be a retirement announcement, where he congratulates Michigan, expresses regret for not taking the Michigan job in 2008, and says his retirement is not due to Iowa forcing him to fire his son, but rather because he can't stand to be a part of a conference led by such a lily-livered hack and is equally disgusted with the pathetic, sniveling coaches from the 12 other member schools who made a mockery of their profession and walks off the stage with the trophy as a lifetime achievement award.

My vote is to WIN THE GAME.

Do not sleep on Iowa or they will pull off an upset--this is not going to be an easy game, especially since we're probably a bit banged up after the Ohio game.

Go out strong, get a lead and hopefully rest the starters in the 2nd half.  We can figure out a victory speech on the spot after we take care of business.

“Archie, it is with great pleasure that I accept this trophy on behalf of the University of Michigan from one of the most recognized Ohio State alumni to ever wear Scarlet & Gray in Michigan Stadium.  Michigan players, students, staff - academic and athletic, alumni, and fans - say… Thank You.. on behalf of the Maize and Blue - and Team 144.”

I think he does the typical Harbaugh on-field media thing: as Pettyti starts to talk to him, Jim stops and says: “This guy, you need to talk to this guy!” and as he leaves, pulls Conner Stalions over to accept the trophy.

He should bring up Moore with him, and when they take the trophy say something like, "this team is champions of the big ten, despite the best efforts of the league. They couldn't beat us on the field, they couldn't distract us off the field, and they didn't realize - no coach is more important than the team. And this is THAT team. The best team in the big ten, representing the greatest university in the world. GO BLUE"

1) Take the trophy from him and kick his ass off the stage.  Boot to the butt!

2) Have one (or all) of the captains take the trophy from Petitti.  Probably the best route

He should just be Harbaugh. Graciously accept the trophy, give his thanks & praise, credit the team, and whatever else he would have done if the conference hadn’t screwed him with its dick-of-stupidity over the last couple months. That’s the behavior he wants to model for the team.

That will really piss off the haters 😆😆

(but first win the game, of course!!)
