LSU just hired 37 year old Jake Peetz as their new offensive coordinator.

2020: Carolina Panthers QB Coach

2019: Carolina Panthers RB Coach

2018: Offensive Analyst at Alabama

2017: Oakland Raiders QB Coach

2016: Oakland Raiders Assistant QB Coach

2015: Oakland Raiders Senior Offensive Analyst

2014: Washington Redskins (their name at the time) Quality Control & Assistant WR Coach

2013: Alabama Offensive Analyst - quarterbacks

2012: Jacksonville Jaguars Assistant QB Coach

”Is this the best we can do?!”

”But he’s never called plays!”

”We don’t know if he can recruit!”

Macdonald as DC isn’t indicative in and of itself of a program in distress or anything some Chicken Littles want to say it is. Keep an open mind.

"Keep an open mind" but only for coordinator choices made by Harbaugh. Where's that mindset when evaluating head coaches? "Matt Campbell Luke Fickell Todd Hafley could never be better than Harbaugh" type guys.

”Is this the best we can do?!”

”But he’s never coached at a big school!”

”We don’t know if he'll end up like Tom Herman!”

No, I mean keep an open mind in general. This guy could be a dynamite hire for LSU.

I’m skeptical though if LSU fans are crying, “Is this the best we could do?!” Or are they by and large cut from a different cloth than Michigan fans are, despite the pride carried by the UM fan base regarding the quality of education provided at the school, which they display every single day here.

I disagree.  I'd much rather we go for an up-and-comer than a retread.  Georgia fans have nothing but good things to say about him.  NFL experience, which always helps with recruiting, especially when the coach has had stints at major college programs in the past, which he has.

Apparently MacDonald was strongly recommended by John Harbaugh who said the guy is just driven.

He's exceptionally smart, graduating summa cum laude with a finance degree in from Georgia and later with a Master’s in sports management.

He is a football 24/7 guy and his work with the Baltimore linebackers has been exceptional- 2 probowlers and two solid rookies. Too bad McGrone left!

Now can he recruit? Can he hire guys with more experience than him, listen to them and gain their respect?  Can he convince guys to come from the portal? Can he handle the jump from position coach to DC?

Desperate times call for drastic measures. It seemed like the options were Strong, Muschamp, maybe Ash failed head coaches who wanted to lead programs as fast as they could.

My fear is it might take a year for him to get acclimatized to the role and I'm not sure Harbaugh, despite the extension has a lot of it.

If nothing else this is super interesting.

Who do you think they are going to get after firing one of the most highly regarded college DCs in the country?

It was entirely idiotic to fire Brown and we're gonna look back at it in a couple years like we did the Carr forced-retirement a couple years into the RR debacle.

You have it backwards... Carr wasn't forced to retire....   actually, he wanted to do so in 2005 and Martin forced him to stay on another two years... and recruiting fell off cliff those last two years, and the program went down a bad path.

Yep, when I pointed out we had fans in this fan base saying stuff like this, it was “revisionist history.”

Don Brown was fired one year too late.

62 & 56 to OSU. No forced Field Goals in The Game since 2017. Instead of “bend but don’t break” it became, “break spectacularly.”

I'm likely in the minority but I've seen flashes of goodness with Gattis.  I think other interference is screwing up the offense.

If Gattis truly has the keys to the car all by himself, I'll retract my statement.

My questions are more based on who he knows and who he can hire to fill out the defensive staff. And even though the reports say he will be the defensive coordinator, that doesn’t mean he won’t be a co-dc. And will him not being a big name defensive coordinator deter guys from the portal coming?
