I like that you are self deprecating. I vote to give him another chance. Everybody makes a mistake.
January 8th, 2021 at 12:37 PM ^
At least the title was informative and qualified as not credible.
January 8th, 2021 at 2:00 PM ^
The board needs more people who can not only acknowledge mistakes but also crack a joke about it.
I also implore the mods to please bring this one back. :)

I agree

I missed it - what did you say?

Bring Banks

Here's to hoping he's a package deal with Banks or Partridge.

This seems like a poor choice
January 8th, 2021 at 11:41 AM ^
It'll be interesting to see what happens with the expiring contracts. I was kinda hoping for a co-d coordinator but that doesn't seem likely. Hoping he can recruit in the south
January 8th, 2021 at 11:48 AM ^
Don't worry, I'm sure a guy who has recruited for 0 days in his life will probably be an excellent recruiter in the most hotly contested region in college football
January 8th, 2021 at 11:51 AM ^
Well it looks like he was a safeties coach at Georgia so that's why I said it.
January 8th, 2021 at 12:02 PM ^
Looks like he was just a GA. No pay, no real responsibility.
January 8th, 2021 at 1:23 PM ^
Except that experience helped land him a paying job in the NFL
January 8th, 2021 at 1:45 PM ^
No real responsibility?
We had a GA coaching our WRs before Gattis...the fuck you talking about?
January 8th, 2021 at 2:37 PM ^
Need I say more?
January 8th, 2021 at 1:17 PM ^
LSU just hired 37 year old Jake Peetz as their new offensive coordinator.
2020: Carolina Panthers QB Coach
2019: Carolina Panthers RB Coach
2018: Offensive Analyst at Alabama
2017: Oakland Raiders QB Coach
2016: Oakland Raiders Assistant QB Coach
2015: Oakland Raiders Senior Offensive Analyst
2014: Washington Redskins (their name at the time) Quality Control & Assistant WR Coach
2013: Alabama Offensive Analyst - quarterbacks
2012: Jacksonville Jaguars Assistant QB Coach
”Is this the best we can do?!”
”But he’s never called plays!”
”We don’t know if he can recruit!”
Macdonald as DC isn’t indicative in and of itself of a program in distress or anything some Chicken Littles want to say it is. Keep an open mind.
January 8th, 2021 at 1:57 PM ^
"Keep an open mind" but only for coordinator choices made by Harbaugh. Where's that mindset when evaluating head coaches? "Matt Campbell Luke Fickell Todd Hafley could never be better than Harbaugh" type guys.
”Is this the best we can do?!”
”But he’s never coached at a big school!”
”We don’t know if he'll end up like Tom Herman!”
January 8th, 2021 at 2:11 PM ^
No, I mean keep an open mind in general. This guy could be a dynamite hire for LSU.
I’m skeptical though if LSU fans are crying, “Is this the best we could do?!” Or are they by and large cut from a different cloth than Michigan fans are, despite the pride carried by the UM fan base regarding the quality of education provided at the school, which they display every single day here.
January 8th, 2021 at 11:56 AM ^
I disagree. I'd much rather we go for an up-and-comer than a retread. Georgia fans have nothing but good things to say about him. NFL experience, which always helps with recruiting, especially when the coach has had stints at major college programs in the past, which he has.
January 8th, 2021 at 2:13 PM ^
NFL experience does not necessarily translate to recruiting ability. Good college coaches with past good recruiting histories almost always does.
January 8th, 2021 at 2:48 PM ^
Every 4 & 5 star wants a shot at the NFL ... and Harbaugh has done an outstanding job getting kids to the League. The guy is young and has NFL credentials ... Michigan is still a very highly rated academic school (which parents love). If true, he deserves a chance.
Go Blue!
January 8th, 2021 at 7:50 PM ^
Zordich is a prime example.
January 8th, 2021 at 3:35 PM ^
Apparently MacDonald was strongly recommended by John Harbaugh who said the guy is just driven.
He's exceptionally smart, graduating summa cum laude with a finance degree in from Georgia and later with a Master’s in sports management.
He is a football 24/7 guy and his work with the Baltimore linebackers has been exceptional- 2 probowlers and two solid rookies. Too bad McGrone left!
Now can he recruit? Can he hire guys with more experience than him, listen to them and gain their respect? Can he convince guys to come from the portal? Can he handle the jump from position coach to DC?
Desperate times call for drastic measures. It seemed like the options were Strong, Muschamp, maybe Ash failed head coaches who wanted to lead programs as fast as they could.
My fear is it might take a year for him to get acclimatized to the role and I'm not sure Harbaugh, despite the extension has a lot of it.
If nothing else this is super interesting.

Who do you think they are going to get after firing one of the most highly regarded college DCs in the country?
It was entirely idiotic to fire Brown and we're gonna look back at it in a couple years like we did the Carr forced-retirement a couple years into the RR debacle.
January 8th, 2021 at 12:05 PM ^
Dude. Tell me the honest number of points OSU would've needed to score for you to finally think he deserved to be fired. Then tell me why that number is higher than 62
January 8th, 2021 at 12:17 PM ^
Carr wasn’t forced to retire - he’d been planning to do so for years. Any more revisionist history you’d like to make up? It’s all the rage these days - so please, make up more bullshit to prove your point
January 8th, 2021 at 12:41 PM ^
You have it backwards... Carr wasn't forced to retire.... actually, he wanted to do so in 2005 and Martin forced him to stay on another two years... and recruiting fell off cliff those last two years, and the program went down a bad path.
January 8th, 2021 at 12:55 PM ^
I also question the Don Brown firing, but you lost me completely with the bit about Coach Carr. He wanted to retire earlier and very graciously agreed to hold off at Michigan's request.
January 8th, 2021 at 1:08 PM ^
Forced retirement? UM/Martin had to twist Carr's arm just to come back after 2005. He wanted to retire as evidenced by him not pursuing any other jobs after UM.
January 8th, 2021 at 1:21 PM ^
Yep, when I pointed out we had fans in this fan base saying stuff like this, it was “revisionist history.”
Don Brown was fired one year too late.
62 & 56 to OSU. No forced Field Goals in The Game since 2017. Instead of “bend but don’t break” it became, “break spectacularly.”
January 8th, 2021 at 1:45 PM ^
Is this a parody account?
January 8th, 2021 at 12:08 PM ^
It's a choice both parties agreed to, knowing that almost all staff will be here next year. #TheStateofMichiganFootball

I'm hoping he'll be a diamond in the rough.
The BPONE in me thinks how the hell is the JH administration going to set this guy up for success?
January 8th, 2021 at 12:28 PM ^
Let's hope for much quicker returns than what we are getting with Gattis. I know the story is still out with him but after 2 seasons we still do not have an identity.
January 8th, 2021 at 10:17 PM ^
I'm likely in the minority but I've seen flashes of goodness with Gattis. I think other interference is screwing up the offense.
If Gattis truly has the keys to the car all by himself, I'll retract my statement.
January 8th, 2021 at 1:13 PM ^
Definitely not a STRONG choice ?
January 8th, 2021 at 11:39 AM ^

January 8th, 2021 at 11:39 AM ^
Wonder who he is going to hire as his head coach? Id imagine that will be his first priority. Lets hope he finds a good one.
January 8th, 2021 at 11:41 AM ^
OK, first question: does he have a platinum mustache and if not, can he grow one?
Second question: does he own a farm?
January 8th, 2021 at 11:44 AM ^
No, but he is a fan of the Doobie Brothers
January 8th, 2021 at 11:43 AM ^
If "that's what it takes" to beat OSU, I'm all for it.
January 8th, 2021 at 11:44 AM ^
Hard to comment on whether it’s a good or bad choice. Only time will tell. Hope he’s a great recruiter.
January 8th, 2021 at 11:45 AM ^
My questions are more based on who he knows and who he can hire to fill out the defensive staff. And even though the reports say he will be the defensive coordinator, that doesn’t mean he won’t be a co-dc. And will him not being a big name defensive coordinator deter guys from the portal coming?
January 8th, 2021 at 12:09 PM ^
