Colin Cowherd is a no-nonsense straight shooter who has been a voice of reason in college sports for as long as I remember*.

* I have no memory prior to this year's MSU game.

First take is that Michigan is "in Ohio State's head," a dubious claim, IMO.  They may be in Ryan Day's head but I think the OSU players are probably very confident heading into the game.

Second take is that the team who runs the ball better always wins this game and that Michigan is in a better position to do that.  I agree with that, but also have to say that Michigan has not been particularly effective running the ball this year consistently and Henderson is running well.

Lastly, Stroud could not beat them so why could McCord beat them now?  Which is a fair point, but this will be McCord's first OSU game so you really cannot judge him on what he hasn't attempted to do yet.

ESPN already cleaned house a while ago because they are absolutely spilling blood in losing eyeball-hours and thus advertising bucks to the internet.

In turn they (and everyone) has had to resort to becoming hot-take merchants and spectacle peddlers.

We live in an arms race of over-mediation and stupidity, and it will end the same as the current abundance problems (opiod overdoses, obesity, consumerism, suicides, needless gun violence), oh wait, there's no end in site.

The only solution is to tune out (exceedingly difficult).

Hopefully there's no nationwide event that forces us inside our homes for years glued to our screens...oh wait....

Sheesh how many bad takes can you have in one comment? Let's review:

- "OSU players are probably very confident." They are objectively worse on offense than last year and their defense is still a big question mark, esp. against a good offense. Confidence would be misplaced at best.

- "Michigan has not been particularly effective running". Except we torched PSU, a tough tough D, for way more yards than anybody.

- "McCord's first OSU game so you really cannot judge him on what he hasn't attempted to do yet". But the point is: Stroud is a way better QB, which is true.

Total bad takes: 3.

I mean, I don't really know how to respond to this.  I certainly think OSU 's players are confident heading into the game.  They are battle tested, undefeated, have very good players.  We definitely some nice runs against Penn State but found ourselves behind the chains quite a bit and check in at #49 nationally. Yeah, Stroud is in the NFL now and he is playing really well but I am not sure what that has to do with McCord.

I don't necessarily have reason to disagree with what he is saying but I am not sure there is anything to be taken from it.  I like that Cowherd has been a detractor of most of the media drum but these are far from Pulitzer worthy takes he is throwing out there.

Sorry to be ornery.

But let's look at this one: "Yeah, Stroud is in the NFL now and he is playing really well but I am not sure what that has to do with McCord." It is a relative comparison. OSU couldn't score more than 23 points with an all-time good QB, likely one of the best passers in a generation. McCord is a big step down. The point he's making - which is, I agree, not super deep, but what sports take is? - is that if they couldn't win with Stroud, how are they going to win with McCord?

I just don't really think Cowherd knows much about M v. OSU.  These are just generic takes.

Yes, Michigan ran the ball more than OSU last year but they won the game with an OSU coverage bust and two bombs to CJ and Loveland.   OSU also did not have Henderson last year.  Of course McCord is not Stroud but apparently Stroud can run and just did not care about college ball enough to do it so I'm not sure who I would rather have, frankly.

Again, I thank Cowherd for kind of getting in our fox hole with us but he is not who I am turning for Xs and Os.

We didn't have Corum last year, a definite Heisman finalist if he doesn't get hurt, so who cares if they didn't have Henderson.

I wouldn't say Stroud didn't care about college football seeing as how he eventually ran multiple times against Georgia the very next game, a college football game at that. I just don't think that was his thing, he was used to always being able to connect with his all star receivers. He still doesn't run much in the NFL.

Your opinions are mostly negative about UM. Is this a thing now or this is a balanced and unbiased approach we need to show? You don't know what McCord will be like? Nobody knows. Not even himself. But the chances are it will be hard on him because of the hostility and the road game.

I would not say we "torched" Penn State on the ground this year.

Last year? Absolutely.

But this year, I'd say those stats were inflated by a couple very long 30-40 yard runs from Corum and Edwards, and also running it 34 straight times. There were more opportunities, and for Corum's last TD run, its entirely possible that Penn State's defense was a little gassed and demotivated by that point. Not because of anything Michigan was doing necessarily, but because they knew Allar and Co. were not going to be able to move the ball.

Michigan got the W, they got the yards on the ground that they needed, when they needed them, but I wouldn't say we torched them or ran on them with any kind of impunity. Moore was just content to keep hammering away because Penn State just couldn't move the ball on a series to series basis.

Disagree.  Do you really think OSU’s players aren’t confident?  Are OSU fans and players ever NOT confident?  No one said their confidence needed to be justified.

also disagree on McCord.  The argument wasn’t that McCord is better.  Stroud is a superb talent, but he never displayed that winning mentality in big games under pressure.  This was probably the sole reason Young went before him in the draft.

I'm hoping the tradeoff to that is that McCord is a considerable step back from what they had in Stroud. He can still beat you, but he is not the pinpoint laser accurate QB (so far) that Stroud was. Get pressure on him and he can make some pretty bad throws.

Henderson is better this year for sure, but that offense is far from being better across the board. The OL probably isn't any better than it was last year (arguably worse), and the QB is demonstrably worse.

But Michigan has spent the entire year playing in a defense specifically designed for OSU. So what do I know?

At the end of the day, this game is one massive mindf**k.

I agree that Henderson, McCord and Harrison Jr present real problems.  They have been playing at a high level.  But our defensive line has also been playing at a high level.  And we can rotate in guys with little to no drop off to keep everyone fresh.  I think we can all agree that OSU presents problems that we haven't experienced this season.  But Michigan presents problems that OSU hasn't experienced this season.

I want to know what sign Michigan stole when day told his players to let Hassan walk in for touchdown number 5? Was it the woody “I went for 2 because I couldn’t go for 3” hayes turning over in his grave sign?

I don’t think I’ve ever wanted Michigan win as much as I want one Saturday. I have the deepest disdain for day. As close to pure hatred as possible, without actually hating someone.

This is probably the biggest game in the history of the The biggest rivalry in sports especially given the move to the 12 team playoff and the division less b1g championship.

The team, fans, and alumni need to do whatever (legally) possible to get the W.

that is all for now

I have literally reviewed nearly all of Michigan's big games the last three seasons and there is no evidence to the naked eye at least that Michigan has prior knowledge of what opponents are doing aside from basic tendency/down-distance reads.

Particularly, the TCU game which everybody said was the result of "dummy signs" that made Michigan diagnose plays wrong is completely clean.  A lot of TCU's yardage was the result of Duggan's scrambles (with actual good coverage downfield) and great passes to a great receiver.  There was one play in the first half where Gemon Green oddly blitzed off the corner that could look like he was expecting something else but it is because Duggan gets the ball out immediately as Quinten Johnson blew a coverage.  JJ's picks were just a terrible passes, he did not misdiagnose scheme.

Michigan did not have anybody's signs anymore than they had Michigan's.  This is literally all BS.

I just hope Day and, by extension, his team have actually deluded themselves into thinking the signs were the reason for the last two years. That would indicate they've learned nothing, and they truly deserve nothing but a soul-crushing loss this Saturday. Go Blue!!

I think it'll come down to whether McCord or McCarthy plays more aggressively. If I'm OSU I'm taking deep shots to Harrison every drive.

If I'm Michigan, I'm doing the same with Semaj and Roman.

Yes, the more successful running game often wins this matchup, but I haven't been particularly impressed by either team's offensive line.
