Good luck to Colin moving forward. He seemed like a great kid and the Rutgers game was an awesome moment for him.

Sucks to lose a player with a lot of potential, but this is obviously much less of a blow than DDJ. He didn't show nearly the same production on the court and we still have Dickinson, Davis, Johns and Todd who can all play the 5.

With DDJ leaving and Jace walking-on, Michigan now has room for Livers to come back, Christopher to commit, the entire current recruiting class (including Todd), and a grad transfer PG. Aiken has had some CBs go to Seton Hall, including one from Sam Webb, but if we can grab another immediately eligible PG (like Mike Smith from Columbia) Michigan would be in a pretty ideal position.

Do we pay only for top recruits in basketball but not football ? How do we get top recruits if we don't pay for them like all the football elites that take all the good players from us ? How is it possible ? Can anyone explain this phenomenon ? Jim can't get top recruits because we don't pay but Juwan gets top recruits how?

I don’t think it’s any one thing, but a combination of things. Beilein got us relevant nationally again. In the last 10 years we’ve been to 2 National Championship games, 1 Elite 8, 2 Sweet 16s and won back 2 back B1G Tournament Titles. We are beating Staee on a more consistent basis. Juwan is a good coach that has an experienced staff. We’re a Jordan school. Plus many more reasons.

I wish him and DDJ well. I think both could have had excellent careers at Michigan. I certainly don't enjoy seeing them go. Michigan's '20-'21 production at point guard and center seem particularly uncertain. Hell, the existence of the season seems extremely uncertain.

I'm not surprised, but that sucks. I was looking forward to a fully weaponized Castleton, assuming he got there. Seems like a big who fit Beilein better though. Has this been confirmed elsewhere? I've never heard of this Twitter account before.

This is not fun news to wake up to.  NEVER GIVE UP ON A BIG!!!!  But if anyone has the game cred to give up on a big, it's Juwan F'in Howard.

Good luck, Colin, you'll be a really good player somewhere...

Harsh to say, but this is good news.  I bet Juwan talked with him and respectfully encouraged him to explore other options.  He would’ve likely got buried behind Dickinson the remainder of his career, and with Davis staying, would not have gotten backup minutes next year.  Makes room for a grad transfer at a position of need.

I hope for both Castleton's sake and that of DDJ that they both had conversations with Howard in which their role and expectations for next year and beyond were discussed.  I think that both players would have been useful but, then again, I don't know where recruiting stands in terms of the likelihood of more useful players coming here. And so far Howard has done nothing to make me not trust that he knows what he is doing.

Just a matter of time!  I hope he does well elsewhere and thanks for the good couple of games you had this year, especially @ Rutgers!  Lol. You’ll always be a Wolverine and GO BLUE, Colin!

Agreed.  Loved Castleton as a fit in Beilien's offense.  But he just didn't fit in with what Juwan wanted, hence the lack of playing time and the emergence of Austin Davis.  I wish Colin the best and I think he can be a real contributor at the right program.

I may be in the minority, but I fear the "one and dones" people are clamoring over may actually set us back as a program.  I was looking forward to seeing Casteton develop, but alas...

What's crazy to think about is the 2021 recruiting class will prob be looking at 8. Other than Zeb, Dickinson, Williams, Johns and Bajema we wont have any other scholarship players unless Jace gets one for next year. I dont think Nunez will be here after this coming year if he can get his degree. Howard is kind of playing catch up on the 2021 class because he had to salvage the 19 class and has worked all the way up to this late signing period on Todd and Cristopher in the 20 class. Not saying things wont change but a lot of the top 25 2021 kids already have favorites. Itll be interesting to see how he recruits about 7-8 players.
