Colin Castleton Appreciation Thread!!
This guy deserves so much credit!! Huge coming off the bench when Johns was in foul trouble. We talk so much about him transferring but man was he a key piece to this win. All those free throws after that Indiana win really paid off! Huge win for Coach Howard and for this team!!

Enormous contribution from Colin. Most important of his career thus far. Sparked the 2nd half run, most importantly contributed to improved defense and rebounding during the middle 10 min or so of the 2nd half.

He joined the bandwagon of bigs playing better than Teske at the moment.
February 19th, 2020 at 9:26 PM ^
Speaking of Teske. Can we get him an appointment with a sports psychologist? All his issues seem to be in his head right now.
February 19th, 2020 at 9:34 PM ^
If he can match that defensive effort I can turn a blind eye to his shooting woes
February 19th, 2020 at 9:28 PM ^
We don’t win that game without Teske’s 2nd half defensive effort. Sure, he can play better, but last couple of games he’s stepped up on the defensive end.
February 19th, 2020 at 9:30 PM ^
Teske had some nasty blocks in this game.
February 20th, 2020 at 8:54 AM ^
..and he did hit his only 3 PT attempt.
February 20th, 2020 at 12:05 PM ^
You are correct - if we ignore the other attempt he missed. Teske was 1-2 from 3 PT range.
February 19th, 2020 at 9:24 PM ^
Yeah, the boxscore fails to represent what he meant to this game. He was primarily responsible for saving us from the brink of that early 2nd half collapse. He should get the figurative game ball.
February 19th, 2020 at 9:24 PM ^
This dude is a baller; it would be a mistake to give this guy a firm handshake. Great work by him, he's only going to get better.
February 19th, 2020 at 9:32 PM ^
Never give up on a big.
February 19th, 2020 at 9:27 PM ^
Been saying it and will continue to. Castleton is a starter next year.
February 20th, 2020 at 12:28 AM ^
I said the same thing earlier this week, at least to begin the season. Fans think he will transfer for more playing time. I think he plans on being the starter here.
February 20th, 2020 at 8:48 AM ^
He is uber skilled but the question is whether his frame allows filling out. I thought it was a foregone conclusion on this board that he transfers out but after this maybe not. I can't imagine both he and Davis stay, which would require both Nunez and Bajema departing. Unless Livers goes pro.
February 19th, 2020 at 9:29 PM ^
I'd like to see him use his jump shot more than dribble into trouble in the post. Dude is shooting like 82% on FTs for the season!
February 19th, 2020 at 9:32 PM ^
Fantastic effort by Colin and came at a great time. Props to Juwan for putting him in and keeping him in.
Spark!
February 19th, 2020 at 9:39 PM ^
This is the post of the night!
February 20th, 2020 at 11:44 AM ^
Yes but you also wonder why he wasn't getting more minutes earlier. At least I've been wondering that. It seens every game he has come in, he's immediately contributed.
February 19th, 2020 at 9:36 PM ^
Mcfly was cuttin in tonight! I call him that because before his haircut his style of hair and how skinny he is he looks like George Mcfly to me.
February 20th, 2020 at 12:29 AM ^
I don’t think he even looks that skinny anymore.
February 20th, 2020 at 9:55 AM ^
I thought the same thing. He looked friggin jacked last night.
February 20th, 2020 at 1:17 PM ^
Whether Juwan or one of the coaches got through to him, something seemed to have clicked mentally. He was playing freely and just competing hard--same thing that happened to Johns several games ago. This is coming together nicely...when a team starts getting contributions from a lot of people it makes everyone else play better too. Same thing happened in 2017-18 year, except this year the B1G is ultra-competitive pretty much top to bottom.
February 19th, 2020 at 9:40 PM ^
He played huge tonight. Great defense also the Teske combination proved pretty good this game.
February 19th, 2020 at 9:49 PM ^
Feed him some hamburgers.
February 19th, 2020 at 11:52 PM ^
My daughter called him "White Castle". I laughed.
C'mon, she's only 10.
February 19th, 2020 at 9:50 PM ^
As Juwan said after the game “If you stay ready, you don’t have to get ready.”.
February 19th, 2020 at 9:53 PM ^
That's why I'm loving this team more and more. You never know who's going to step up. He not only brought some great play - he brought the swagger we needed. He was the next man up, and he brought it.
February 20th, 2020 at 12:32 AM ^
Agree on his demeanor tonight. He didn’t act like a seldom used player. He acted like he has been playing major minutes all season.
February 19th, 2020 at 9:57 PM ^
If I was Juwan - a humble man and good coach, I would immediately be inviting John Beilein to practice. Not to distract but to help and I guarantee JB would help because both dudes are high quality guys. Maybe it is a pipe dream but Michigan could absolutely benefit from some new input/approaches on Teske. Not a knock on Howard, he’s done wonders with Davis and even Brooks but if Michigan wants to be more than a round of 32 or Sweet 16 team they need more efficiency from Teske on offense. And we know who can do that.
February 19th, 2020 at 11:52 PM ^
I really don’t get this sentiment. Where have you ever seen a coach (or anyone in a leadership position really) ask the person they replaced (who, in this case, left of his own volition) to look over his shoulder? Humble or not, that seems foolish. Far better to be grateful for what Beilein did for the program, and move on from him.
February 20th, 2020 at 12:36 AM ^
LOL WHAT.
John Beilein is allergic to using bigs underneath the basket. Did you actually watch Michigan under him? He used them as PnR specialists 90% of the time. Hence why Teske is struggling to adapt to Howard’s back to the basket approach.
February 19th, 2020 at 10:16 PM ^
As well as Davis has played recently...he is a little limited athletically. Colin brings that plus length! Was really amazed how he stuck with their perimeter players away from the basket.
February 19th, 2020 at 11:42 PM ^
Literally the game changer, ballers are ready no matter what
February 20th, 2020 at 12:08 AM ^
such a great performance... and not a garbage time performance either; came in when the game was on the edge of being lost and made big plays at both ends.
Happy for the kid - i was really wondering what happened to him
February 20th, 2020 at 1:11 AM ^
I always thought his upside was better than both Davis and Teske because of the way he can move his feet. I was expecting more from him this year.
He still needs to add some strength. Does he have two years eligibility left?
February 20th, 2020 at 3:48 AM ^
Yes 2 more. He's a true sophomore, and got lots of game action last year so ineligible for a 5th year
February 20th, 2020 at 3:48 AM ^
Yeah, he has 2 more season of eligibility left. I wish he had been redshirted last season. I think most can tell that he'll be a very good player as an upperclassmen but is simply behind guys older and more experienced than him.
February 20th, 2020 at 7:09 AM ^
In all of these hypothetical "we can haz all the players" crootin' scenarios in which Coach has to chose a) Davis/handshake or b) Castleton/run off; games like this show that '21 Castleton (+off season seasoning & Camp Sanderson) is a better value than Davis.
That being said, I'm not a fan of running players out of town (looking at you Chis Collins/all of SEC). Davis just may prefer a degree in hand and minutes on a smaller program.
February 20th, 2020 at 9:15 AM ^
Castelton was awesome last night!!
February 20th, 2020 at 10:37 AM ^
When you stay ready, you don’t have to get ready!!
February 20th, 2020 at 1:09 PM ^
In addition to all the hard work Colin has put in, he kept the faith. Positive attitude goes along way. Good to see Juwan made no bones about his faith in putting Colin in the game. This will pay off for the team as a whole for the remainder of the season.
