Coach Rod talks about Tate... ( Article in that other paper)
Here is a link for how good Tate has been about being a team guy and the maturity he is going through. Personally im still pulling for Tate to have major playing time...

Who pulls for the backup (possibly still 3rd string) qb to get more playing time when the starter is the Heisman frontrunner?
September 23rd, 2010 at 6:55 AM ^
I pull for TF to get playing time because that means the team is playing well enough to get their 3rd string QB in for reps and the Heisman frontrunner has already racked up his yardage for the day AND the 2nd string QB has already gotten his reps in...

To me hoping Tate gets "major" playing time means hoping for more than mop up duty.

A Heisman would be great and all, but keeping Denard healthy, and getting the backups quality PT is more important in what is unarguably a critical season for U of M football.

Love the photo. Very timely. Nice hustle on the turnaround.

If the 3rd-stringer is getting major playing time, it usually means that the team is rolling over people and the coaches can get plenty of work for the reserves (assuming, of course, no injuries to 1st and 2nd string). I'm hoping for that too. I think that's what we were all hoping for against UMass.

>>Heisman frontrunner?
I mean it'd be amazing if he won, but it's game 3. I think the Heisman talk is premature, still.
As far as wanting to see Tate play, why not? RR said he has 3 good QB's. Gardeners' redshirt is gone, so it'd be nice to see him get more than the 3 snaps he's got so far. Not necessarily start mind you but it'd be nice to see them play some.
I think we could win with either DRob or Tate, obviously DRob is the more athletic, but Tate played well before the combo shoulder / o-line implosion of '09.

The all Everything Network would never try to Hype things too early, would they?
It may be too early... but the reality is... they Hype is there and the Hype is real.
September 23rd, 2010 at 8:25 AM ^
You may think it's "too early" to talk about the Heisman, but usually the winner is someone who is in the discussion after the first or second game. It may be "too early," as it is for ratings, but that is the way things are done, in both ratings and the Heisman. I like the fact that so many writers and TV personalities are saying "Heisman" and "Denard Robinson" in the same sentence.
Mentioning a player now in no way guarantees a win, but not being in the discussion by the fourth game almost guarantees there is no way that player will win.

Tate had some Heisman Hype last year at about this time in the season too. We see where that ended up...I agree Heisman talk is premature regardless of what the idiots on certain TV networks are saying...I mean they have to say something so that they don't have dead air, right? So Heisman talk is just something slightly more preferable than dead air, and not legitamate until we've seen a bit more football.

Denard is a record breaking quarterback. We can call the Heisman talk "hype" and yes, it is early, but lets also be sure not to go the other direction with this thing and try to downplay what Denard has done. Denard has worked his arse off, broken records and put up numbers that boggle the mind. Everything he is getting right now is deserved. He earned it wth his play on the football field.

and a 3rd string QB IMHO would qualify for that no matter who they are.
September 23rd, 2010 at 7:45 AM ^
I am just racking my brain and wondering... does anybody in the country have a better 3rd string QB than Michigan? I can't think of anyone. Our 3rd string QB started 12 games as a freshmen and performed pretty well. Who else can say that? I really really like our QB situation.

Great article on one of our guys maturing. What's not to like?
3 Heisman candidates on the roster at QB, just all have to wait their turn
September 23rd, 2010 at 9:09 AM ^
Great news. Also, you'll notice that since he started being completely supportive and competing regardless of playing time the press hasn't been nearly so interested in that whole situation. We still hear something about it every once in a while, but not nearly as much as before.

but how good is he at kicking field goals?
September 23rd, 2010 at 10:42 AM ^
Do not let them jump back on the bandwagon. Boo freep links.

The post title sounded interesting and I clicked to read. Then I read the disclaimer that it was a Free Press article (which disclaimer I really appreciate, by the way). I immediately lost interest and refused to click the link. I am convinced that I will single-handedly put that newspaper out of business by never reading it again. Nothing they write about can't be found elsewhere online (most of it here!).

I just want the best player to play. Whom ever gives us the best chance to win, it doesn't matter who it is.
September 23rd, 2010 at 11:28 AM ^
Tate's been great on the sideline these last couple of games and all but does anyone else think he should lose that skull cap? He looks like he's ready to jump in the pool.
September 23rd, 2010 at 1:38 PM ^
The skullcap draws too much attention to his ears . . . (not that there's anything wrong with that).

Red lite stripe now and we have DRob and DG not sure if red strip has another kind, unfortuanately for TF playing time will be hard to come by barring injury. hooray beer, hooray Big Blue!!
