CNNSI's Game of the Week: Is at The Big House
November 18th, 2011 at 9:05 AM ^
somebody could tell ESPN that. We could get a 3:30 kick up in this peice.
November 18th, 2011 at 10:07 AM ^
I prefer the early games, Noon is good for me.
November 18th, 2011 at 10:29 AM ^
I guess you have your reasons and I am not calling you out on your preference, but you have to admit that 3:30 games feel bigger. There is a palpable tension for a 3:30 game that is absent for noon games, IMO. Also, the dim of evening approaching as you near halftime creates a real buzz than cannot be rivaled by the shadows of afternoon. Think the New Math when you think 3:30 games, that's the atmosphere that could be present for this game if ESPN did not think people were throwing Clemson v. NC State parties at 3:30.

Bo wanted all games at noon.
November 18th, 2011 at 10:44 AM ^
gamed all noons at Bo.
November 18th, 2011 at 11:01 AM ^
and he was especially right when it gets to be November and it gets a lot colder when the sun goes down.
November 18th, 2011 at 11:03 AM ^
You are correct, there are very practical reasons for wanting noon games in November.
November 18th, 2011 at 10:50 AM ^
Noon games just don't seem as important. I also like how it's dark with the lights on for the second half of 3:30 starts.
November 18th, 2011 at 11:01 AM ^
When I think of Big Ten Football, I think early games. I don't care when Michigan plays. I'll watch and support the team.
November 18th, 2011 at 12:27 PM ^
because I know they will actually be on ESPN / don't have to worry about regional ACC coverage uncertainty when setting up the DVR.
That said, BaldBill and I were conditioned under Bo to be predisposed to noon games. We were simply more sober as students and thus remember those noon games better, and they were followed by plenty of time to get dinner and party afterwards.
November 18th, 2011 at 1:03 PM ^
I kind of like waking up hungover at 11:30 on a Saturday, running out to get breakfast and beer and then having Michigan be on immediately when I return.
November 18th, 2011 at 3:48 PM ^
I feel the EXACT same way. Always quick rush to get McDonalds and beer right before noon
November 18th, 2011 at 9:10 AM ^
Ugh ... a Brendan Gibbons field goal in overtime to win? Nothing good can come of this...
November 18th, 2011 at 9:16 AM ^
17-17 in regulation. Nebraska is held to a field goal in overtime. Robinson keeps it on first and 10 from the 11 yard line to win the game.
November 18th, 2011 at 9:25 AM ^
Good guys win. Blake finally gets that "best play" he's been looking for...

Thanks, it's been a while since I've thrown up in my mouth.
November 18th, 2011 at 10:21 AM ^
What happened to you? Did you make a joke about a youth and a navy and white lion?
November 18th, 2011 at 10:42 AM ^
I think a cougar might have been involved too. Crazy stuff.
November 18th, 2011 at 10:53 AM ^
Didn't you hear? Pop Evil will be rising from an actuator-powered platform at midfield right before the team touches the banner playing "In the Big House", while a furry wolverine mascot pumps up the crowd.
November 18th, 2011 at 9:32 AM ^
michigan has scored a touchdown in only 2 of the last 18 attempts inside the 5 yard line?
November 18th, 2011 at 9:46 AM ^
2 play suggestions to try to reverse that trend:
1. The jump pass. It is easily the ugliest play in the history of football, but it works, and I think it is a good fit for Denard with the fake run option.
2. Spread it out and run that ridiculous shotgun misdirection that MSU shredded M with under John L. Smith. I know it has a more specific name, I just know it as the play tha makes me cry. i know it is unorthodox at that place on the field. But 2 for 18 man, unorthodox is all we got.
November 18th, 2011 at 10:13 AM ^
I agree it is ugly, but watching Favre do it for a couple of decades it's hard to argue with the success of the play. Al, are you ready ijohnb's comment?
November 18th, 2011 at 10:50 AM ^
Your wording could be slightly confusing. "Attempts" suggests 18 seperate trips inside the 5 yard line ie. 18 different drives getting inside the 5 with only 2 scores. It's actually 18 plays inside the 5 with 2 scores. That's not great either obviously. But it's not quite as bad.

NU 25, UM 13
November 18th, 2011 at 10:31 AM ^
And I think you're full of shit and corn
November 18th, 2011 at 10:44 AM ^
Michigan had all the "name" and success and Nebraska was trying to reestablish its cred after two decades of losing in the 40's and 50's. We were a 10 point dog, and it was a signature win (against a very below average Michigan squad) that jump-started the Devaney Era.
Should be a close one tomorrow
November 18th, 2011 at 10:45 AM ^
Well played, sir.

I hope our defense can give Husker WR Tim Marlowe a little love. Having read this in the Lincoln paper:
Tim Marlowe grew up in Ohio, rooted for Notre Dame, and now plays for Nebraska.
With that background, he might be the most despised man in Michigan on Saturday.
Consider the feeling mutual, says Marlowe.
"I've always hated Michigan," Marlowe said, noting his strong Notre Dame allegiances growing up, "so it's going to be fun playing against the Maize and Blue."

It's weird how people advocate noon games just because that was Bo's preference. Noon games do tend to be quieter. They feel like JV games. Half the crowd is asleep. The students show up late. Ratings are lower and the networks don't care. It's obvious that later games -- ones that start or finish under the lights -- have more energy to them. Players say so. Most fans agree. I just wish people would stop advocating the blue-hair position.
November 18th, 2011 at 11:37 AM ^
If I'm going to the game, I prefer a later start. Not as tired, easier to drink, more lively, not a zombie by 8pm from tailgaiting at some un-Godly hour. Etc.
November 18th, 2011 at 11:50 AM ^
It's not like the preferences of fans, or even the preferences of the schools, matter. The timing decisions are made by the networks. The problem is that, because the Big 10 doesn't allow night games in November, there's only going to be one "big time" game played at 330, and who plays in it is decided by ABC/ESPN as holders of the first tier rights.

Weird analysis when it came to NFL prospects. Craig Roh was rated slightly better than Mike Martin.

our "duel-threat" quarterback?

It's just denard slapping a bunch of people in the face with a white glove
