Interesting. Not as the DC, either; it’s possible that Sherrone was putting out a staff position feeler, or it’s possible that Hurtt’s camp was putting stuff out (though Sam Webb is likelier to get stuff from the Michigan side).

I’m curious to see how the defensive staff shakes out, and by “curious” I mean, a bit nervous in fan terms. The potential is there to have another great defense, but you need the right staff to run the scheme and retain the great players.

(Remember that we can’t always tell what the “right guys” are, either. The 2020 and 2021 offseasons both looked shaky from a transitional standpoint and both turned out to be massive wins).

Someone latches onto a set of hyper-speculative bits of rumours on the fringe of the internet about a dc candidate weve barely heard of, creates a post linking those rumours to Sherron and questioning his decision making and now we give a shit.

Maybe this non-news was always non-news.

Word is Moore did reach out but never offered a DC position. Last I heard they were still planning to promote Clink. This is a guy that Moore knew from a previous stop and he reached out in case Elston decided to leave. There is a potential that a CO-DC could have been negotiated, but Clink was to be the guy calling the Ravens scheme. I think Elston has also been offered another title to help entice him to stay. Elston is a college guy at heart, so it would be very surprising if he left. I’m surprised they haven’t announced anything on that side of the ball though, especially if Clink is being promoted and Elston is getting an upgrade in title, possible Co-DC as well. Possibly still negotiating terms.

Ben wanted 10 years at S&C, would have settled for 7 and a 10% pay increase. Warde didn’t want to do either. I think if he had offered even an extra year from his last extension and a 10-15% increase Ben would have stuck around. With that said, Ben and Moore do feel like Tress can carry on with Ben’s program. The question is how does he connect with players? S&C guys are the ones around players the absolute most. They’re a big part of development and recruiting. Tress is younger and a lot of the guys like him, but a bunch of current guys are still really upset Ben is gone.

The BS about Hart quitting is just that. Hart might look for somewhere he can become a coordinator and get a chance to finally move up. So there is a chance he moves on, but he has not just up and quit the team which is another rumor being spread that’s crazy. Hart will interview for some positions elsewhere, but highly unlikely he follows Harbaugh. People seem to forget Hart and Harbaugh have history. They put it behind them for the team and have worked well together, but Hart isn’t one to just follow Harbaugh around. They’re professional together, but certainly not best friends of any kind. Moving to the Chargers to be a RB coach wouldn’t do him any favors to getting his dream job. He’ll look for somewhere that will promote him and eventually try to become a HC.

You sound like you have inside information:). Where, pray tell, did you get this info?  Gotta say, it sounds legit.  The Ben Herbert thing is distressing. If that is what he wanted to stay, we should have forked it over.  Not a good look for our beloved (s/) AD.  Everything should be done to help Moore succeed. By choosing to not pay Herbert, Manuel is actively sabotaging Moore, as Herbert is a cornerstone of the program.

There could be additional context to make the Herbert stuff seem less bad but that just doesn't sound great. Yes, it's a huge investment. But considering the money that is not going to Harbaugh now, seems like everyone else is reasonable to try to get a piece of what is being "saved" by not spending it on Harbaugh.

Clink and/or Elston at least keeps the scheme intact. If the players don't leave it will still be good for at least one more year. If the players start leaving, then poop.

As for Hart and Harbaugh, maybe there's more, but isn't the "history" between them that Harbaugh talked shit about Michigan re: academics and athletes when he took the Stanford job in 2007, and Hart (who was 21 or so at the time) defended Michigan? Seriously, that's something they can't get past? I mean, obviously they have gotten past it. Doesn't mean they're close. But it's crazy to think that would be the reason they don't get along, especially since Harbaugh, you know, hired Hart.

This epitomizes the small-minded thinking of Warde.  Even though he is saving tens of millions by betting on a first time head coach with almost no experience (in part, for continuity), he cannot help but cheap out and refuse to spend another $1-2M on an extension for the person universally hailed as a key contributor to the current culture and success.  I just cannot fathom how so many people on this board can look at everything that Warde has done and defend him.
