The tweet doesn't say he was hired as a coach.

Best guess is that he was hired as an analyst with the understanding that he'll move to a coaching role when one opens up.  Also, that opening will be there soon once things get finalized.

That is he was hired to be a coach and will be soon, but can't officially be named as such as of yet.

Those are the 2 least valuable and important coaches imo that would be the easiest to replace without hurting development and recruiting.    First off Harts recruiting sucks.   We are a run first school and he hasn't gotten a good or highly ranked back yet.    Cabana doesn't count he was coming to Michigan no matter what.   Also I don't want to lose any asst coach but one asst. Coach is leaving and out of everyone those are the 2 who would have the least negative impact if gone.

I almost did something similar, but as bad as I wanted to suit up (and was pressured to do so) I thankfully knew it was completely wrong and would have serious repercussions. My college baseball career ended early due to lingering arm issues, so I was invited the next year to help coach the freshman team at my former high school. One of my roles was first base coach. There is a rule in high school that if one of the kids on the team serves as first base coach (not uncommon) they must wear a batting helmet while they do so, but the adult coaches do not need to. Well as a babyfaced 20 year old, early on in almost every one of our games the umpires would see me helmetless in the coaches box and mistake me for a player. So they would pause the game to tell me to throw a helmet on to coach first base, and I would have to convince them I was a coach and not a 14 year old high school freshman. As you can imagine the kids on the team found this hilarious (as did their parents in the stands) and they started badgering me every day to suit up and play. I like to think that I was good enough of a player that after a couple of innings the jig would have been up even if physically I could pass as a teen.

I'm sure there is an opening.  Michigan is not announcing the departed coach to make him look better.  There will be an announcement that this person has landed another job and then Partridge will be named LB coach.

One day, there will be an announcement that George Helow has taken a position with an NFL team. Shortly thereafter, it will be reported that newly hired generic coach Chris Partridge will fill the vacated LB coach position for the Wolverines. Spartan fans will say he is limping back to Ann Arbor because he was a failure at Ole Miss.

Sam Webb was saying a few days ago that Partridge turned down jobs from TAMU, Maryland, and I think Miami to come back to Michigan so he could potentially be here for a while

I believe Webb had said beginning of January that Partridge was conflicted over uprooting his family again.  Not sure if this was before or after he was *officially* let go at Ole Miss but this was when I started seeing mentions of him coming back to Ann Arbor.  That alone makes me think he's here for a while.  Then the reports of him turning down jobs makes me think this was either his plan once he was let go or he and his wife agreed this was the best course.
