Charles Woodson ties NFL record for defensive TD's

Submitted by SteelCityMafia on

Tonight in the 3rd quarter of the Raider/Charger game, Woodson picked up a Danny Woodhead fumble and returned it for a TD.  It ties him with Darren Sharper and Rod Woodson for the most defensive TDs in NFL history at 13 each.

Heisman!

He's been making plays, setting records, and winning awards for more than half my life. I hope he keeps playing. He's as smart as he is athletic. It's also crazy how many great DBs have been named Woodson.

First defensive player to win the Heisman... Only a handful of players in the modern era played "both ways," but Chuck did it superbly.

8-time pro bowler, Super Bowl Champion and his longevity is/has been amazing. He's won just about ever award a defensive player can earn. Unanimous first-ballot Hall of Famer, easily.

Not to mention he's a stalwart supporter of the University, especially with Mott Children's Hospital. I hope he breaks the record this season!

The CBS Sports article on the subject pointed out, interestingly enough, that Woodson's first defensive TD in the NFL was 15 years ago almost to the day (October 4th, 1998) against Arizona. It also mentions that Charles and Rod Woodson were teammates in Oakland in 2002 when Rod managed his 13th defensive TD as well.

Him at Fremont Ross and seeing the numbers he put up at RB and was a little thrown when they said he would play defense because he was dynamic on O. Then he was just as good if not better on D. Peppers has a similar HS resume, so here is hoping he is as good when he hits AA.

Just heard that on WTKA, saw your post, and realized I'm wearing my Charles Woodson Clinical Research T-shirt.  (Not a surprise.  My at-home garb of choice.)   Oct. 7 is an important birthday date in my life (shared by 3 people who were very close to me), so now I get to pretend this is personally significant.

Happy b'day, Charles!

he has played defense in an era of the NFL where defensive backs have been marganalized by the rulebook to the lowest possible levels.  Everything the NFL has done over the past 20 years has been to make the passing game unstoppable.

As much as he loves football and Michigan I think the entrepreneur in him will definitely keep him from the sidelines for awhile if not ever. He is invested in many things already so I'd be shocked if he didn't expand in that regard while still being the great philanthropist and Michigan ambassador.

That said, I am totally with you haha.
