CFB Risk Day 40 - *Maniacal Laughter* (5 Turns Left)

Submitted by EastCoast Esq. on March 8th, 2023 at 11:45 AM

CliffsNotes Instructions

(1) If you want an order aligned with Michigan’s current battle plan before you attack/defend, go to Michigan Risk Central Command. You'll (usually) get a few options to choose from.

(2) If you insist on doing your own thing, head over to CFB Risk and attack Ohio State in the Caribbean and along the east coast.

That Roll Though...

Last night was very, very good. We lost some battles we should have won, but the battles we did win were HUGE:

(1) We were able to win the Mississippi River region (i.e. Arkansas and Louisiana). That means we get a 50% boost tonight.

(2) WE TOOK PUERTO RICO. Caribbean Columbus has been breached (shout out to kwf4 for delivering the decisive blow), and The Don is ready to run free. Ohio State no longer has a region bonus.

With those combined victories, we have a combined 6,000 (!!!????) star power versus Ohio State's 2,200. That's almost a 3:1 advantage!!! We also had our most players EVER last night.

Y'all have given us a BIG edge. If we can keep this momentum, we will finally lift our banner in CFB Risk and dethrone the Bucknuts.

Just remember, IT'S BECAUSE OF YOU that we're in this position, and we need you to keep playing to finish the job. That means being part of the collective lift to keep our foothold in the Caribbean, stop OSU from building up on the east coast, and occasionally grab a region as well.

But all in all, great job. It has been an absolute pleasure riding into battle with you.

Go Blue and Screw OSU!

Map below. But before that, let's check on The Don....

In CFB Risk circles, that play is now known as the Annexation of Puerto Rico. MGoRisk Recruiting Poster for those who help train our new 1-star heroes. Tell two friends, ask them to tell two friends, and so on and so on . . .

Can someone explain why there's only 5 turns left?

We're on turn 40.
According to rules there are supposed to be 50 total turns.

That would suggest there are 10 turns left. What am I missing?

The Victors

Wow. A&M has been decimated in just a few turns. They've gone from 60 territories about 4-5 turns ago to now just 22. They went from 39 down to 22 in 1 day!

So what's the deal with that post in the announcements tab on Discord about someone called CRG2000 being linked to a bot attack? It sounds like they're active on mgoblog, so I'm excited for some low-stakes drama.

crg apparently launched the huge bot attack that led to Captcha. He did similar sh*t in v2, but leadership gave him another chance after he swore up and down that he had learned his lesson. He was never part of leadership, but he was allowed to be a mouthpiece (many of the early recaps were done by him).

This wasn't enough for him and he was making all kinds of demands on leadership. When they refused, he decided the best course of action was to launch a bot attack to try to ruin the game for everybody.

In other words, crg turned out to be an unreformable douche.

I don't know how they know. But apparently when they asked him about it, he didn't deny it, so....

And I won't get into the specifics of his demands (because everything I've heard is second hand), but my understanding is that he wanted a lot of control that leadership wasn't willing to give -- especially since he had screwed up majorly in v2.

The Glass Character: National Anthem subliminal messages: I can't even ...

We're not holding anything. Let the bucknuts do that. We are advancing constantly and we're not interested in holding onto anything -- except the enemy. We're going to hold onto him by the nose, and we're gonna kick him in the as$#!.

What an excellent gambit! We spend the game calling aTm the Death Star, getting everyone riled up, when we're actually the Death Star! Woohoo!

Keep on pummeling oSu!

Yea, I was involved in yesterday's post as well, so have the context but don't get the irony.

Every update, some fun poster has to chime in and talk shit about how annoyed they are (how many posts are left, why are there daily updates, etc.) -- I don't see why if you also have that context, you decided to make your post. May be an overreaction on my part, but seemed kinda like a dick move (hence the GIF). Either way, no harm, no foul

For next year's game, lets remember how much of an ass kicking this quickly became when the Michigan team leaders eschewed alliances, and made it less of a complicated pain in the ass to play.

Lets go put a boot on the necks of the Buckeyes.

I'll just say in their defense that for some reason the mechanics of this game are not actually the same as the mechanics of the board game risk. So that led to people thinking the strategy should be to hold regions. When the game incentivizes a shotgun approach. Also alliances were impossible when 50% of the players didn't listen to them.

Which i get to a point.  I have played and followed at least a little bit each year on this game, and while I am not a Risk strategist by any means, we should by now see how things are different from board game Risk.  I think that holding regions is nice, but its difficult to do when teams dont have to worry about moving forces as you do in Risk.

The part about players not listening is legit, but the lengths needed to listen proved an annoyance to many players.  For me, it was discord. Maybe im old, but I just cant make sense of how to navigate discord, so I pretty much refuse to use it.  Apparently lots of others are in the same boat.  It seems that the system we have arrived at works REALLY well.  Lets keep it up!

Quick question: I understand the Discord hurdle being a bit too high for some.  Do you use the orders site?  Or do you rogue?  Both are valid choices, but as one of the folks who spent a fair amount of time (re)building the orders site I'm curious whether it's also considered too hard to use.
