I found it odd that the camera didn't feature (to my watching) those weird dudes that dress up etc.

I was never quite sure what they were all about (although the one guy was in my former section one year for The Game and got verbally lambasted for four straight quarters. They also travel with a posse of fellow traveler weirdos.

Heard that too. Came across this story a couple months ago… I had always disliked him until reading about him. Just gotta take a minute sometimes to remember most fans are just normal people at the end of the day… the vocal minority always seems to be the problem for every fan base

I do.

What makes the rivalry so legendary,

What makes The Game so filled with vital glory that 19 million people watch it,

Is that Michigan and Ohio State BOTH have often been excellent teams.

If Ohio State perpetually stank, the rivalry would be drained of all that grand emotion.  No one would care.

Sometimes things are done not because they are easy, but because they are hard.  And from that can come at times glory, at times agony, but not bland indifference.

I am a Michigan fan, a proud Wolverine, a Michigan engineering graduate.  But I have a different point of view:  that the best, most-satisfying situation of them all is for Michigan to play an excellent Ohio State team -- AND beat them.  Preferably with scores like 45-23.

I used to think that way.

In 2001.

After what has transpired in the last two decades, I don't care.

Yes, it is the greatest rivalry. Because both are great.

They deserve to endure a period of mediocrity. We did. I won't feel bad if it ever happens to them.

I will admit that I hated the Dantonio Spartans more than OSU.  The pendulum has swung back to where it belongs in the last couple years.  It is beyond glorious for OSU to lose by putting up 3 points - LOL!!!!  But at least they are tuff.

I can't wait for the schadenfreude posts.  Those make for perfect content during the holidays.

I disagree. We need a strong protagonist. Our wins against them need to carry as much weight as possible. Ali needed Liston, Frazier, and Foreman. Do you really want OSU to be an Illinois, where one side feels it's a rivalry and the other side feels it's not? Or an MSU, where their entire existence is wrapped up in one game, without care to the others? We need OSU to be good, if not great. Look at FSU. They made their bones by beating up on a weak ACC, but they always had powerful rivals in Miami and Florida. They became a dynasty by beating those powerful rivals. This year, none of those three were very good and the rest of the ACC was back to its usual poopy self. What happens without a meaningful victory? No playoffs. A powerful antagonist is needed if we want to be legendary. We need to overcome a death star, not a heap of mediocrity.

Great points! Let me just make sure I'm following your logic here: OSU really struggled for relevance and post-season appearances when Michigan was awful, right? When Michigan had a major drop off, OSU was immediately discounted, right? All their successes, including National Championships, come with a giant asterisk because Michigan wasn't great, right? Also, with the new B10 "super conference," and 12-team playoffs, if OSU has their struggles, the other B10 teams, namely Michigan, will really struggle for legitimacy and playoff appearances, right? If OSU has to endure a down period, like Michigan had to, the rivalry ceases to be important, right? Suddenly, Michigan won't care about the OSU rivalry, the same way OSU stopped caring when Michigan was unable to win a game in the rivalry for nearly a decade.

This makes perfect sense; we should all be rooting for OSU to always be great... for our own sake!

I was OK with a 0-3 finish to that game while everyone looked like dog shit for the reasons we heard around the 2 min mark in the 4th.... SEC SEC SEC. OSU fans would still be miserable about a win like that and the SEC knob gobblers wouldn't be out in force beating thier chests.

I totally feel bad for most of the players. I am sure most of them just wanted to play for a successful team, and once there, they got dupied in to believing all the BS that OSU, the staff and especially the fans were vomiting out of their mouths.

I can absolutely say that there have been a number of guys that played for OSU, that I would've taken on Michigan's team.

Just like saying, I don't want the players to get hurt, but definitely want them to play the worst game of their lives!

From this thread:

The toughest thing Ryan Day ever did was publicly shit on 1000 year old Lou Holtz, he was never any measure tougher than he was on that post game hissy fit.

The Day defenders will never answer you, they will just come in and downvote and remain quiet.. which is a soft attitude, which they likely got from Ryan Day

From this one:

Tonight was an embarrassment from the coaching staff today and none were more embarrassing than born on 3rd base

The QB has also sucked all season because Day wanted a coffee boy who married Urban's daughter over a real coach. We lost this game because Ryan Day was our head coach. Every failure lies at his feet. $10M per year and has to be treated by the majority of the fanbase like he's better than Meyer and Tressell because he beats up high school teams and out-coaches that vegetable James Franklin every year. We can do so much better than this

They are completely unhinged.

Third Base is overrated but he's lost 8 games in his entire tenure at OSU (and in the B1G only to Michigan).

He's not a bad coach (way better than Frames) but these people expect him to equal Urban (and that's just not going to be possible in a NIL era where, previously, only Ohio State had "weed, cars and tats" NIL, abeit without NCAA knowledge or consent.)

Let's say they replace him and the next guy isn't to this level...then what? You love to see it.

He's not a bad coach (way better than Frames)

is he better than Frames or just a v2 version?  Frames is now known as the guy that will win all the game they are expected to win and lose all the games against better teams. In other words, don’t blow easy games and dont win any upsets. Dont know if I see much daylight between that and Day right now.
