CBs/Boubacar

Submitted by mattbern on
So I have a friend who has a friend who is a team manager. He filled me in on this info yesterday: 1. Woolfork will play cornerback tomorrow 2. Boubacar was put on like the scout team defense as a response to his very negative attitude, however he has had a much better attitude in recent days 3. For some reason the Coner was lined up at receiver to run a route wth Boubacar defending and he caught a pass.

No one gets a free pass to playing time. Boo Boo was not playing well, and when he did make a semi-decent play he would jump up and down, waiving his arms and making a spectacle out of himself. Kid needs to settle down, mature and just concentrate on becoming a better football player.

One of the main problems/arguments brought up about not having Woolfolk at FS is that we lose all that speed at a position that generally needs it. But as you line up against some of these run first teams without many speedy deep threats, I doubt you need to have him as the deep protection. I think the move to CB right now could be a great decision. Plus, he has the speed to run down the field with a WR so at least he should always be in the vicinity to make a play.

Woolfolk wasn't tackling particularly well at safety, anyways, so therefore his speed wasn't as valuable as it could have been. Stick Williams and Kovas at Safety (I'm guessing that's the arrangement) and let Woolfolk run with a receiver. Hopefully that leads to better coverage, and also better tackling at the safety position.

one missed tackle in overtime and all of a sudden he hasn't been tackling well all season? people are taking for granted the tackling by the defense this year. best tackling michigan defense since 2006- all units. tackling has NOT been an issue with this defense.

How funny would it be if they turned Coner into an unstoppable Red Zone receiver at the last stage of his career? Think Riemersma (only way less probable, of course).

I really like Boo Boo. I think that he can be a great corner for us, and up until recently, I loved his attitude. There were great things being said about him coming out of the Spring. I'm so surprised that he's performed the way that he has, considering that coming out of the spring, people were saying that he was one of the most improved and best practicing players on the team. I believe that got to his head a little and somehow he now believes he doesn't need to put in the effort to perform well or even keep his spot. Good job by the coaching staff in putting him in his place, and if Boo Boo answers the call and steps up, this one move by the coaching staff could fix our number 2 corner spot. Boo Boo's good enough to hold it down solidly if he wants to.

I don't think it's so easy for Message Board guy to forget that, it's just that Message Board guy was so fucking perfect at 19 or 20 and just expects everyone else to be as well. And Message Board Guy is even more perfect now!

What about the all white jerseys??!!!!!! Can you or your friend's friend confirm? PS I heard Coner not only caught a pass on Boubacar, but he also threw the pass to himself.

I'm not sure that "normal kids" chain smoke Black & Milds and blunts. Sure, there are plenty that do, but there are also plenty that don't. It's certainly not "average." There are also a lot of normal kids who take out huge student loan and work very hard to succeed academically. For that reason, I don't really buy it when athletes say they just want to be "regular people." I'm realistic enough to look the other way when the occasional bar fight or pot bust happens, but I don't really feel any sympathy for the poor athletes who just want to be regular people.

I've know people who can succeed athletically and academically while drinking every night, and also people who don't do particularly well even when they're 100% devoted to what they do. If you think you can do that and still be successful, then go for it. Similarly, if you don't mind the drop in performance, then go for it. But if you're a scholarship athlete, then the standard is set very high, whether you like it or not. You can do whatever you want as long as you're performing on the field (and staying out of trouble with authorities) but the moment your performance slips, you'll be taking a lot of heat.

many a Michigan star athlete blaze on the weekends the same night after blazing opponents on the field. One guy on the team right now who you would never expect. May get them in trouble off the field but it doesn't seem to hurt their performance on the field. I am sure there are many who would disagree though, and I respect that.

I lived in his hall last year (Wenley in West Quad). He's not crazy crazy, but there was more than one instance when I smelled weed coming from his room. When I talked to him, though, he was a nice guy and willing to talk about football and whatever. At the end of the season I talked with him and he said he was glad they were done because he was injured and getting pretty tired of that. He seemed very bummed. I'm not trying to assassinate his character here or anything, but I am not surprised there are rumors of his poor attitude and such.

"3. For some reason the Coner was lined up at receiver to run a route wth Boubacar defending and he caught a pass." Not sure what scares me more. That it may have happened or that it doesn't shock me if it did...

The coaches need to be somewhat carefull about Boubacar's ego here. It is one thing to get benched for a walk-on who has to play 15 yards off any reciever, and to get put on the scout team. That is what happens when you don't perform. But, I hope they didn't set up a situation with Cone just to show BooBoo up. I really can't believe they did that. (Cone also has some moves. Just ask Stevie Brown about the Spring game where Cone "left him twisted with caulk 'round his body.") I like the Wolfork move. He has the speed to cover deep which, I hope, will allow us to use safties for other than deep safety nets. This should translate into more blitzes and more pressure on the QB on 3rd down. Or at least I really, really hope it does.

It's one thing if they put BooBoo in a formation where he was outnumbered and Cone caught an easy, short pass. It's another thing for Coner to run a standard route and catch the pass. I don't see anything wrong with that (assuming it really happened). If BooBoo got beat by Coner, then that's entirely on him. It's not RichRod's job to stop the Coner!!!

Caulk? Coner is a plumber? Come on Vanilla Ice....it's "left him twisted with CHALK 'round his body". Like when there's a dead body at a crime scene, they outline the body with chalk. Street cred...out the window.

Like a plumber, Cone finds the holes in the D and exploits them. And he leaves cornerbacks twisted with his sick moves. (Yes, I realize it was a mistake on the other guy's part.) I can't believe Cone was running a route though; he should be freestyling all the way. It's always sad when a talented artist turns into a sellout. He's one of the few scholarship football players that knew it was all about the music... shame to see that go away.

Coner at receiver? Not implausible. Coner seeing the field, that is implausible. But a formation with a qb as a wideout - that I could very much see.

Cone is 6'7" and quarterbacks often have good hands because they handle the ball so much. I wouldn't mind seeing him run a fade near the goal line.

I said it once, I'll say it again: People who want to make assumptions on Cissoko's character off of third-hand message board rumors about him passed on by someone who doesn't know the names of the people he's speaking of, or based on "smelling weed from his room this one time" should shut the fuck up. I pray that one day somebody cares enough about you to breathlessly report every minor wrong-doing you've ever done to a bunch of mouth-breathing morons on a fucking message board.

Look at the giant strawman! No, that's not what I'm saying. I'm saying that "mattbern" who doesn't know who Troy Woolfolk is, much less Butch, passing along 3rd-hand bullshit, isn't categorically right, and doesn't justify people talking about pulling a kid's scholarship. What I'm also saying is that "that time I smelled weed from his room" doesn't make him an unredeemable drug-addict who has smoked his career away. What I'm FURTHER saying is that your MD aside, you don't fucking know if he has the flu. Essentially, I'm not saying anything here is wrong. I'm saying that these tiny slivers of rumors we see here do not neccesarily = truth. Finally, I'm saying that people should hesitate about sitting in judgement of someone they do not know, and whose situation they do not understand.
