Carlo Kemp v Army = Hodor

Submitted by Bigfoot on September 13th, 2019 at 1:29 AM

In near wins that would have been hell otherwise

Don Brown quote from Shaw on 247:

“One of our guys, this nose guard. I actually get a little emotional thinking about it. If you’re an actual football purist, this triple-option stuff … it’s tough. Especially when you’re the nose," Brown said before simulating Kemp. "I knocking the heck out of this center, and here comes the guard and he hits me right in the back of the ankle, and he does it 22 times during the course of the game. To keep going and knocking this guy back even though you know it’s going to happen, it’s a tough deal."

It’s a long season, he deserves the recognition for holding the door.

He also said that now, since they will be playing against more traditional offenses that we will get a chance to rotate these guys and show how much depth we have.

googles 'hodor'.  interweb says 'simple-minded servant'.  thinks if kemp finds OP, OP will find a 'bigfoot' where the sun does not normally shine....

in seriousness, we all know next saturday will be when we find out if we have a football team.  everybody better have their chin straps on tight.

we won't hold them under 21 - Taylor is too good and now catching the ball out of the backfield, and Coan is more serviceable than he appeared and Cephus has given the a boost in the WR corp. Unless Chryst loses his mind again, we're going to need to score north of 27-35 points to have a shot here on the road.  Not saying we can't do that but if you're expecting us to submarine them to the point where they score less than Army, I think you're optimistic.  I'm not one of the ones who has assumed all hope is lost post-Army, but this season was going to be one where success required the offense to score big and the defense to be better than expected but probably still somewhat suspect.  So far the Defense has lived up to that billing and the offense decidedly has not. I think we're going to be in for some dogfights with the upper tier of the B1G and will win some and lose some based on the offense.

There is something to consider when it comes to Wisconsin. Michigan may have been sleep walking somewhat on Army. The guys will be anxious to show a physical and sharp performance. Can't say the freshman back will find all the right holes or that Shea has his best game but I look for a really good game.

"Hodor is simple-minded (i.e. mentally disabled) and he is only capable of saying one word, "hodor", though he can apparently understand complex instructions other people give him. "Hodor" is a seemingly nonsense word, though in the process it became the name everyone calls him. It is derived from the phrase "hold the door", the words that Hodor heard during the seizure that mentally disabled him as a result of the future Bran Stark accidentally warging into his young self during a vision. Nonetheless, House Stark set him to work at a productive occupation within his capacities, as a stableboy serving at Winterfell. Hodor is incredibly large and strong. While he is slow of wits, he is gentle and loyal to the Starks."

Not sure this character is the best comparison for Kemp.

Op said Kemp v. Army = Hodor.  Clearly it was a metaphor meaning Kemp's play in the game in was stout and steadfast.  Kemp accomplishing his mission, holding the line.  Op did not say Kemp was Hodor.

Next time someone says player X is a star are you going to complain because player x is not really a hot ball of gas and doesn't have all the attributes of a star?

I don't really give a shit about any of this, but for argument's sake:

The success of an analogy is largely dependent on how familiar the listener or reader is with the thing or person or act being analogized.

Prior to seeing this OP, I had no fucking idea what or who a Hodor was since I've never watched a single second of GOT. Like XM apparently had to, I had to google it, and literally every description I've found of Hodor starts out with some variation of "simple-minded."

Conversely, the word "star" has had a popularly understood meaning as a popular culture analogy for at least a century, and it's not specific to sports or entertainment—it's an analogy that is applied to virtually every aspect of human activity.

I get your title, OP, and +'d it.

There's so much literal take in this thread...  There isn't much that pisses me off more than people who read words and treat them like gospel, rather than the intent of those words.

Often, we have but words on the screen.  No sideways glance, no lilt in a voice and no telltale hand gestures.  We are left with only our wits and wisdom to mine those words on the screen.  Temper your disgust for those with less clarity of view, they know not their blind spot.

I actually thought the D line as a whole had worn out Army's offensive line by the end of the game. Now, that took two OT's to accomplish but UM guys looked stronger in the end.

Kemp put in some work. He's dependable, but not going to make many game defining plays. But damn, they need someone else to step up. Jeter and Dwumfour are unknowns and who knows when Dwumfour will be ready. I think the talk of the freshman was hyperbole. If they haven't seen significant action in these two games they probably are not ready.

Kemp needs help in the tranches, did he play every snap last week?  Now he's done it 2 weeks in a row vs tiny O Lines, now comes Wisconsin.

Unless Dwumfour and Jeter are ready to play major snaps Kemp's body isn't going to hold up.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it illegal to hit a D-lineman below the waist (I think the ankle would qualify) when he's engaged with another blocker? If so, was Coach Brown in the officials' ears about that after the, oh say 6th or 7th time? Certainly seems to me it should have been called, what with the new fangled penalty being assessed during a punt return on a block that until recently was a text book example of how to avoid a clipping penalty.

I'm retired Navy. I love the fact the Service Academies have found a system that maximizes the skills their players bring when they have to play against talented athletes they can't recruit. I'm less thrilled with the Academies getting free passes on penalties that are for the safety of the other team's players.
