Michigan plays BYU this fall. Be on the look for a 6-7, 410lb giant from Tonga in the white uniform.

He's on his mission trip for the next 2 years, so we won't have to face off against him.
But yeah that guys seems scary as hell. Wonder if he played rugby, he would be a one man wrecking crew as a prop.

6'7 is tall, but not extraordinarily so. And at 410 he's got a lot of fat.

That dude doesn't look very fat to me, not more so than most O-lineman. He's just massive. If he get technique, move laterally, and can stay healthy he is going to wreck dudes.
EDIT: or D-lineman. Either way. Hulk-man.

I think people are going to have a hard time ignoring him or telling him to go away when he talks to people about the Book of Mormon...

I love the "OH MY HECK!"

I can say without any doubt or hesitation that Mr Langi is a large human being.

simultaneously.
February 5th, 2015 at 5:10 PM ^
Really? I pictured him more as a slot receiver or cornerback.
February 5th, 2015 at 5:54 PM ^
Nah, he's got the frame of a kicker.

Those marks on the carpet weren't there before. He caused the floor to crack.

i lol'd!
February 5th, 2015 at 5:47 PM ^
Dear lord, look at the size of his hands! They're as big as most peoples heads! Man, if he can learn even a little bit of technique and agility, dude could be scary.

The article says they'll work him at nose tackle first. He'll be raw at first, and they more or less admit that:
"We normally require a two-gap player that can be big enough to handle both A gaps,” said coach Bronco Mendenhall. “He might be a three-gap player. Maybe we’ll just have him lay sideways off the snap and block the whole thing out"
This is this generation's "Refrigerator Perry".

He's probably 5 inches or so taller and about 70 pounds heavier than Perry, at least if I am remembering his dimensions correctly at his peak. I would dare say that we can upgrade to "Walk-In Freezer" here, although to walk into this dude on the line is probably inviting something very bad to happen.

Dude carries 410 really well. It may work out.
February 5th, 2015 at 5:54 PM ^
I expected him to just have a huge gut on him but he looks shockingly in-shape for a guy over 400 lbs

Wasn't there a QB at Kentucky a while ago who was as big as his linemen?

I prefer the round mound of touchdown, but whatever floats yoru boat.

Did they name the arena team, River Monsters, after him?

i ever played with. like this tongan fellow, not brought up as a football player but a good athlete and i'd say more lean than the byu kid. we had a very good O-line averaging 300+ lbs (not including me as the puny 250 lb TE), and it was just a strange experience to see our line actually look small next to someone. i mean, you look at a guy who is, say, 6' 5" and maybe 315-325 and they just look tiny next to a guy like that.
curious how it ends up. you can't teach size, but by the same token, without some serious commitment and practice this kid won't end up doing much.

He's far too large for that right? Don't you want a shorter heavy guy in the middle and then your 6'7" 250 guys on the edge? Seems like this guy should be a tackle. He won't be able to get leverage on anyone other than just be leaning on them....which may work

No experience? Eh, it worked for Gene Hackman in The Replacements.
February 5th, 2015 at 6:02 PM ^
He only looks fat in the face, kind of like a baby. I am more interested in how he moves his feet and agility. I understand he has never played football but is he a sportman in any context. If so, it might translate.
February 5th, 2015 at 6:43 PM ^
Having never played football I guess you rate this as high risk - high reward.
Remember Will Campbell played football for years and still had poor techique until his last year at M.

Send Red out for him with a hockey scholarship. I want him in goal.
