The Boys in the Boat Buckeye Diss

Saw The Boys in the Boat last night and there was a reference to Jesse Owens from “the University of Ohio.” That’s a pretty big gaffe in a major movie. I chuckled. Anybody else catch that? As far as a review, wholesome and entertaining but typical Hollywood production of a true sports story.

"The Boys in the Boat" book is fantastic and tells an amazing American underdog sports story. Unfortunately your review lines up with others of the movie, that George Clooney's direction leaves much to be desired.

I saw the movie and noticed the same thing. Funny -- but also a surprising gaffe for a major production given that it takes about 5 seconds to google "where did Jesse Owens go to school." I did that, and noticed that his uniform jersey said "Ohio" not "Ohio State".  Maybe Brady Hoke's ancestors designed them?

Also, I agree with John Bacon that it's cool that Michigan has a plaque at Ferry Field honoring Owens for his 4 records set in one day in '35.
